The Auditorium is a 1500 seater total but it can be divided into two halls. There are total 6 entrances to the hall on three levels.

There is a separate entry to the hall and from the central plaza as well.

MAXIMUM UTILIZATION OF SITE

Mass edges aligned with the site edges. This maximizes the site utilization because the site has a non- orthogonal shape.

FOCAL POINT: CENTRAL PLAZA HALLS & CENTRAL PLAZA SETBACKS & SPACES AROUND CENTRAL AXIS

Front edges pushed back to provide access to the building and spaces for services.

Central axis created for public interaction and activity and so that it is visible from the Maa flyover as well.

The central plaza is the junction of the three major components of the project, the shape responds to the function. There are two major focal points of the centre.

FINAL DESIGN

The halls are placed in such way to create a focal point of its own so that more functions can take place irrespective of the central plaza.

All the open spaces have a canopy on it, to provide shade from sun and rain so that the open spaces can be used throughout the year.

Re-development of the Community Centre Precinct Janakpuri, Delhi, India

Academic Project: Urban Design

5th Year | 9th Semester

Group Work (4 Members)

Contribution: Concepts, Master plan, Residential design

Guide: Prof.

Rahoul Singh Visiting Professor

Site Area: 1,32,000 sqm.

Total Built-Up Area: 2,58,000 sqm.

Brief Description

The project is a part of the existing expansion plan of the Master Plan for Delhi 2021. The main objective of the plan and the project was to increase the population holding capacity of the existing urban limits. This was done through careful mixing of different typologies of housing with other uses to ensure optimization of FAR as well as residential density, re-development and re-densification of low-density areas in the earlier master plan periods by enhancing existing FAR by 50%.

The design strategy was to design a precinct which is self-sustainable in a way that the residents do not need to go far for basic necessities. The precinct has old cultural identity which we tried to maintain and accentuate activity around it more.

SITE & PRECINCT

This was a group collaboration, I was involved in research and analysis of the project along with formulation of the Master Plan and designing of Residential towers and production work of the project.

Constraints

• The central green of the site was to be reserved and nothing could be built on it.

• The neighborhood has low density housing.
