AN LE PORFOLIO 2020

SEQUENCE STUDY The project requires the student to use nine planes to \ create five zones including entry, overlook space, study space, gathering space and vertical circulation. The model was created based on the idea of public/ private space and balanced composition. Two different boxes with different sizes ensure a private soace but also semi opened to overlook the other side of the construction. The differences in the height not only let light gets into the study boxes but also create an interesting perspective. People can enter from both sides from the street that contributes to a smoother movement

CLIFF SAUNA

The building is located in North Bench, Virgina. The design tries to take advantage of the natural geography which includes an eightinch tall cliff that is adjacent to the sea. The visitors will experience a sequence of spaces, from an enclosed changing area to an open-space pool and end up with a semi-open sauna.

The main concept is based on the transformation of spaces and the view from the sauna. People will enter the changing room, then has a view that is framed between the changing room and the sauna. From the sauna, there will be a beath taking view toward the ocean.

The butterfly roof frames the view direction for the design. Furthermore, it contributes to the dramatic characteristic. The geometry is intentionally in angle in order to extend the view.

POOL HOUSE Summer 2019

Public pool offers important community benefits. Located in a challenging topography with steep slope, the pool house provides a nice view when people move up and down, which contribute to the circulation sequence. It includes a sauna, two indoor pools and one large oudoor pool.

To enter the pool house, people cross over a long concrete bridge and go down the stair under the heavy mass to the medium indoor pool. There will be a another stair that leads to the sauna on the highest level. On the lower level, there would be an inside lounge will a small pool that is good for relaxing. People can access to the large outdoor pool by crossing another bridge.

INSERTION ALMS BUILDING

Study the context and design an insertion that attachs to the West side of the Alms building. The students are required to consider about the light, composition and the site of the DAAP building not only the Alms building. The insertion design should include two galleries and one gathering space. The scale of the model will be 1/4’’ = 1 foot

ROW HOUSE Summer 2020

This Row House is designed for married couple Linford Detwelter and Karin Bergquist. They make up the band Over the Rhine, which is an American, Ohio based folk music band. A town house with intimate spaces for the couple, a place to host small parties, record and produce their own music and host their old band members Hordinski and Kelley for speacial events would be ideal.

PROGRAM The performance space is located in the center of the house on the first floor. The concept is turning the building into a music box that can satisfy the love for music of the couple.
