introduction Isabel Briggs Myers, with a bachelor’s degree in political science and no academic affiliation, was responsible for the creation of what has become the most widely used and highly respected personality inventory of all time. The purpose of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator personality inventory is to make the theory of psychological types described by C. G. Jung understandable and useful in people’s lives. The essence of the theory is that much seemingly random variation in the behavior is actually quite orderly and consistent, being due to basic differences in the ways individuals prefer to use their perception and judgment. What you should beware of, however, is the problem of over-generalizations and perhaps even the self-fulfilling prophecy. Each human is nonetheless different.

RATIONALS

The Scientist

You live in a world of strategic planning and you value intelligence

INTJ

and competence. Your main interest is not only understanding a concept, but also applying it in a useful way. You communicate your thoughts in ways that are easily understandable and it is not easy for you to express abstractly. You are a self confident and a natural leader, though more in the background. You spend a lot of time in your own mind, which sometimes neglects other people’s thoughts and feelings.

The Visionary

You are an idea person and a fluent conversationalist. You are

ENTP

less interested in developing plans of actions or making decisions. You love to debate issues and may even switch sides for fun. You don’t consider personal or feeling related elements in decision making, which may result in appearing overly harsh. Creative, clever, and theoretical, you have a broad range of possibilities in your life.

22

NT Rationals

The Executive

You are a natural born leader. Challenges surround you, and you

ENTJ

desire to be the one responsible for them. There is not much room for error in the world, and inefficiency leaves you impatient. You make decisions quickly and you hold a lot of power. You love to interact with people, and you respect people who are able to stand up to you. Because of your dynamic personality, it is important to find balance within yourself and with others.

The Thinker

INTP

You thrive in theoretical possibilities. Knowledge is the most important thing and your mind is always working to generate new theories, or to disprove existing theories. You do not like to lead or control people, and are tolerant and flexible in most situations. Human feelings are difficult to understand, which does not equip you for meeting emotional needs of others. You are independent, unconventional, and original.

NF

idealist

The Inspirer

You are enthusiastic and full of potential. You are good at most

ENFP

things that interest you. There is meaning in everything to you. Because you live in a world of exciting possibilities, the details of every day life (such as detailed, maintenance tasks) are trivial labor. Since emotional excitement is such a big part of your life, you are seen as an intense individual and you have highly evolved value.

The Idealist

INFP

The primary purpose is to find meaning in your life. You are a highly intuitive person and every judgment is processed to fit into your value system. Generally thoughtful, you are a good listener. You do not like conflict, and will approach confronting it with your emotions and personal value. You are generally laid back, unless one of your values are violated. You have high standards and often don’t give yourself enough credit.

26 NF Idealists

The Giver

You are a people-focused and relational individual. Your main

ENFJ

interest in life is often giving love, support, and a good time to others. Because your people skills are so extraordinary, you may have the ability to make people do what you want them to do. However, you can be so externally focused that it is important for you to spend time alone. But during these times, you may become too hard on yourself and turn to darker thoughts. You do not like making a decision is wrong if not connected to the human element.

The Protector

INFJ

You are gentle, caring, and complex. You put a lot of faith in your intuition (which is achieved through feelings). Often times, you are very selective in what you choose to share, and can be difficult to understand and secretive. You are rarely at peace with yourself—there’s always something else you could be doing to improve yourself and the world around you.
