Brief Si t e h isto ry The site that is being used is about 300 years old. The now camping ground formally belonged to Kaurna people, who used the site as a place to gather.

In 1873 Brown Hill was tarnished by the European settlers. The founder of what we now know as Brown hill is Pastor William Finlayson.

1870 Water Conservation Department set up use of creek as a water supply for Mitcham and Adelaide.

In 1915 the area was declared a national pleasure resort

Became the Brown hill Creek recreation park in 1972

Final desi g n c o n c e p t

Further consul tati o n and r edesign lead t o t he r em oval of t he pods off the tree trunk. The pods now hang off t he t r ee and ar e accessible via a rope l adder. A s a si ngul ar desi g n elem ent , t he t r eehouse will sit f acing bot h t he creek and the norther n hill landscape. The newly f or m pods pr ovide the opportuni ty for views and vist as f r om all sides of t he cr eek. P od det ail s The pod are hung form the tree through a stong rope system and are acessed through a rope ladder which would be attached to the pods floor Due to the materiality of the pods bamboo and thatching they will a very light weight stucutre this ensures that the tree will not be damaged or harmed by the pods Putting it in its molst basic terms the pods are essiently a primative sleeping areas for the vistors of brown hill creek. T h e i n d i v i d u a l s a c e s s e s t h e p o d s v i a a r o p e l a d d e r. The pods have uncoved wall space to create a panoramic view of the site and a more intnese auditory expereince.

S it e plan The site itself contains a caravan park which has its benefits; however, the treehouse experience intends to create a more personal connection with nature and with the site both sonically and visually. Located next to the creek, is the perfect space and environment to employ a treehouse community. =

Pre e xistin g n a tu ral elements The pre-exsiting natural elements on a the site create beautiful views and vistas for the vistor of brown hill creek.

Pa th wa y The pre exsting foot path that leads up into site provides the perfect walk way for vistor to see the treehouse forms

Tre e h o u se stru cture The tree house strucutres intend blend into the natural landscape. The sit amoungst the pre established natural element to enhance the vistors connection to the natural envrioment.


Pro m o tion of t r eehouse The site itself contains a caravan park which has its benefits, and the treehouse intends to be promoted as more intimate and personal experience with the nature that is provided in such proximity to the city. The implementation of the pods is not only provided this personal natural experience but also increased tourism at Brownhill creek to help preserve this important nature park that is home to a large number of native flora and fauna. Nature plays a big part in our general well being and Brownhill creek is the perfect space to encourage a healthy lifestyle and emphasis the importance of nature as a critical part of people lives and general wellbeing.

Co m m u nt iy A ppor ach Rather than change site surrounding my treehouse, the design intends to add or further enable the user to interact with the natural realm that is in proximity to them. The treehouse design enables for this experience via the hanging pod as they create an immersive experience for the visitors of Brownhill creek. The treehouses are relatively organic, therefore conforming to natures, this enables visitors to develop an enhanced connection to space and the surrounding natural attributes. ­



St ra t egi es/p ro g ra m s fo r connect ing w it h nat ur e Due to the basic nautre to pods and bare minimum which is provided. The tree house community intendeds to increase and enhance people connection with nature and the other people there. The space encrouages self reflection and escape form peoples busy ilives in order to reset and find peace within the pod and the setting sourrounding them and develope more genuine connection with the people there.

Gardening int iv it e The site has several non-native plants: the treehouse community intends on replanting native plants and vegetation to sustain the natural biodiversity of the place. Gardening is a great group activity for all ages and allows visitors to learn about Australian native plants and deepen their connection to the Australian bush.

S us t aining t he pre-exsitin g a ctivite s Brownhill creek already has number activity readily available for the visitor of brown hill creek to enjoy. Further, encourage the use of the pre-existing activities within Brownhill creek. The increased use of these activities means Brownhill creek can sustain itself as a beautiful nature reserve near the city centre.

c ommunit y c onnec tio n The closeness of the pods within the community means that people staying in the pods and the nature-based activities create for a positive and sustainable environment for the visitors staying at brown hill creek. With both social and mental benefit the treehouse community at brown hill creek allows visitors a develop a sense connection with space and the people they will share it with.
