HOLMES BEACH – If all goes according to plan, Island residents and visitors will be able to bike, walk and drive the length of the Island on a dedicated shared use trail called the AMI SUNTrail.

Vincent announces candidacy

Lynn Burnett, engineer for all three Island cities, gave Holmes Beach city commissioners an overview of how the trail project developed and the three phases that will make it happen by 2040. She said the Sarasota/Manatee 2040 Transportation Plan was adopted in December of 2015, and it contains goals that call for creating multimodal walkable centers and improving pedestrian safety, with a priority for the Island. see TRAIL, page 35

BRADENTON BEACH – Ward 4 resident Bill Vincent has announced his candidacy for the City Commission seat currently held by third-term Commissioner Jan Vosburgh. Vincent, a resident of the Pines Trailer Park, filed his preliminary paperwork with the Manatee County

Supervisor of Elections on Friday, March 25. Because he has formally announced his candidacy to the elections office and named former commission candidate Michael Harrington to serve as his campaign treasurer, Vincent can now accept campaign contributions. Vincent has been a frequent attendee at city meetings in recent months and on multiple occasions has levied public criticism upon the commissioners and the city attorney.
