ABOUT My name is Anna Mimran and I am currently in my second year at Nottingham Trent University studying BA Product Design. As a designer I believe that simplicity should be at the heart of the design process. My approach when starting any project is to priorities creating a functional product that balances the core principles of functionality, sustainability, quality and beauty. Having gained two years of experience within an academic environment, I look forward to experiencing and learning how products are developed and designed in practice.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT PROJECT FOUR WEEKS
Brief Design and develop a proposed solution to the amount of plastic waste produced in a domestic setting. Use primary and secondary research findings to support the proposal. Ensure the outcome is easily adoptable, and increases consumers awareness of the ecological impacts of domestic plastic waste specifically.
The basis of the design is a range of refillable bottles which consumers will keep and reuse, made from sustainable materials. Their features work to achieve three objectives; extend the lifetime of materials, abide to eco design and prevent the use of new plastic by economising on the plastic in existence. The bottles are made of silicone and glass which create a durable yet sophisticated and sculptural bottle. The packaging is colourless in order to facilitate recycling after the products lifetime and features an interior soap repellent coating to reduce waste. The dimensions used allow for a comfortable user experience and allows for 750 ml of contents in order for replacement to be infrequent.
“ We need to stop thinking about plastic as waste and start to use it as a resource Iain Ferguson [ Environment Manager at Co-op]

The refill process would take place in stores which aim to reduce the waste and footprint caused by transportation of goods and encourage users to tailor their products to their needs Additionally, other sustainable products would be available at the entrance of the store. As the customer walks around the shop they are met with three desks for each product. These desks will be run by a store assistant who will refill the bottles from wall mounted dispensers which are connected to the stock room through transparent glass pipes.
