I know you know exactly how I feel! I’ve started adding my winter immunity boosting spice blend to my morning tea. Better than a flu shot! So what’s your fave part of fall? Sweaters, boots, scarves? Or is it pumpkin flavored treats? Same here. I don’t drink coffee, so when everyone starts posting pics of their PSLs {pumpkin spice lattes} I get kinda jealous. This year I decided to whip up my own version, without the espresso {you are welcome to add coffee or black tea if you like} and the whipped cream {which by all means, add! There are lots of options for gluten free vegans nowadays... I make my own nut milks! Check out my recipe}

Caramel apples via: The Ardent Sparrow Who doesn’t love caramel apples? These would be so super cute as a centerpiece for a kid’s table! I’ll make mine with HEY BOO’s vegan, gluten and sugar free coconut caramel. Hello delicious!
INGREDIENTS: ...1 bag of gluten free shell pasta, cooked, and rinsed in cold water. I used DiVello brand. ...1/3 cup vegan mayo or veganaise {or homemade cashew mayo} you could use more if you want it creamier ...7 strips of turkey bacon chopped {vegan option: slice extra firm tofu as thin as you can. Marinate in g/f soy sauce {with a splash of liquid smoke if you have some} for a few hours. Then fry up like you would bacon} ...a few shakes of herbmare and pepper ...1 tomato, chopped. {I am allergic to tomatoes, so I use 1/2 c red pepper chopped small} ...a few leaves of romaine, chopped ...1 green onion, chopped small mix in a big bowl. eat. lots. add avocado chunks and/or nutritional yeast if you like... I did!

me: how old were you when you realized you were an artist? bonita: I knew I loved to write when I was a teenager. Being an only child and often very lonely being a latchkey kid, I poured my heart and soul into countless diaries. I learned to express myself through the written word at a young age. I think I realized I loved art and was an artist when I was in my 30s. After I had my first child. I enjoyed getting creative and having an outlet to pour myself into that wasn’t childrearing. me: What are your fave hobbies? bonita: Photography, playing with color, writing, and blogging.
me: Describe your perfect day bonita: Oh my. I could go in so many directions with this question. My perfect day? I think it would be almost exactly how I’m living right now in my life. We live on the ocean. On the ocean. Pinch me. Dream come true for my husband and I. I hear the ocean every day. I feel the ocean breezes every day. I don’t have to have a ‘real job’ as most do, so it affords me the luxury to spend my time doing what I love. Writing, taking photos of my life, getting creative with all sorts of things. I have friends nearby that love me. I know my husband loves me. I carve out my own niche by running my own online business, selling handmade treasures in my Etsy shop and living my life large through my blog and on FB and Instagram. I love my life right now. Love it.
me: What is your biggest inspiration? bonita: The ocean. Living by the ocean restores my soul and has me thinking and planning in so many different directions. The sea air can make your soul come alive. me: Do you have a morning ritual? {like what you eat for breakfast, a certain time you get up, things you do the same every morning} bonita: I do have a morning ritual. I get up. Usually between 6-7am. I don’t put on any makeup. I brush my hair and get dressed. Make my morning cup of coffee. Put on some pretty jewelry because it makes me feel good. I look out through my window at the vast Atlantic Ocean and say a silent prayer of thankfulness each and every morning. We are a few of the blessed ones in this world to live on the coast. This I know. I sip my coffee, take my heart medication, yes I have a heart condition - and settle in to catching up on emails and reading my favorite blogs and websites. It’s my time and I love it.
me: What are the last five things {related to your etsy business} that you googled? bonita: Art journal pages, vintage ephemera, seashells, stencilcraft, beads sale. me: Is there a craft that you would like to try someday that you haven’t yet? bonita: Large-scale paintings like Flora Bowley and Alisa Burke create. Creating and painting on such a large scale intrigues me. I’ve never tried it. me: What are your three fave websites or blogs? bonita: abeautifulmess.com alisaburke.blogspot.com debeecampos.blogspot.com me: What is your fave piece in your etsy shop? bonita: I love my sari silk wrap bracelets. I make them to order in any color, with any kinds of charms, colors you desire. I have some pre-made in the shop and I have a listing called YOUTELLME. People can purchase the YOUTELLME listing and from there I can create a beautiful custom-designed silk wrap bracelet just for them. Did you get a little too much sun this summer? Let’s face it {sorry, couldn’t resist} as we age, our skin starts to change. We get hyperpigmentation {darker patches or spots on the skin} hormonal breakouts, dry skin... ugh! But, don’t cry sweets, there is a way to combat it all with holistic skincare... and it’s a lot cheaper to make it your self with organic ingredients than it is to go buy those fancy brands we love. And, it smells amazing. Really.
There are two types of exfoliation: manual and chemical Manual exfoliation = using a physical agent to abrasively remove the top layer of skin cells. Chemical exfoliation occurs when an acid is applied to the skin. The acid penetrates the cellular cement of the top layers of dull dead skin, breaking it apart for easy removal. Healthy, radiant new skin is revealed! Most commonly, glycolic acid is used. Dermatologists use a medical grade glycolic peel that needs to be controlled with a neutralizer. Holistic Estheticans can create a natural glycolic acid peel using sugar + the power of lemon + nutritive oils.
First you need a jar with a tight fitting lid.
I’m using a 4 oz. size for this batch. Place the sugar in your jar, then slowly pour the lemon + oil mixture in. Stop to stir it, making sure it is all saturated.
+ 15-20 drops lemon essential oil {make sure you use pure organic therapeutic grade oils on your skin!}
1/4 cup raw cane crystals or brown sugar {organic = best}
+
1/4 cup olive oil 1 /4 tsp. argan oil 1/4 tsp. vitamin E
Keep your sugar scrub tightly closed. Keep water out of it, or the sugar crystal will melt
How to use a sugar scrub: Use a gentle cleanser to prep the skin, remove all makeup. Leave the skin damp. Use a spoon to stir the scrub and take out a tsp. Using your fingers, apply the scrub in gentle circular motions. Let the sugar melt before adding more. A manual exfoliation removes dead skin cells, and detoxifies the skin by encouraging bloodflow, helping to flush lymph and toxins. As you gently scrub, the sugar melts, making it’s glycolic acid available for the skin to use. Properly melting the sugar is key to a successful chemical exfoliation. Once you have a layer of sugar on your face, leave on for 15 minutes, then rinse with warm water. Your skin will be so soft, brightened and moisturized.

Find them... etsy :: facebook :: blog :: instagram I discovered stone + violet and fell in love with their gorgeous displays. The styling of their pics is awesome, and I love their branding. They graciously answered my Q’s about their indie biz. 1. When did you start your business? I started my business in 2008 selling my art and art prints under the shop TheHauntedHollowTree on Etsy. Once I made the decision to move part of my work in a direction that strayed far enough from my original work, I decided to open stone + violet, and this was done just this year in mid 2013. 2. What inspired you to open an etsy shop? Do you have a website or blog? I had been selling my work privately and through other online venues since 2002. At some point I came to hear about Etsy and just decided to give it a go as a new venue. I have had various blogs and sites over the years, but have just recently streamlined it all to stoneandviolet.com which will be mostly where I sell my exclusive pieces, sets and empty shelves. I very much enjoyed blogging over the years and may try to work that into the site again in the future, but at this time, my focus is on creating my art and my product.
3. How many hours a week do you work on your business? Is this your primary source of income, or do you have another job? I have no idea how many hours I work a week, lol. It surely is over 40, that I do know! I have a 6 year old and a 4 year old, so as any work-from-home parent knows, what should take you one hour, with your kids present, it takes three. For me personally, this is my primary income (my husband works full-time as well, and ironically, he works from home too). So this house can get pretty crazy at times! 4. Do you sell at indie craft shows? I do not sell at any craft shows. I have thought about it for sure, and have been invited to do many local shows. I am an introvert to the highest degree, so the opportunity to stick around my house and sell through online venues has been really valuable to me. 5. Do you sell in stores? if yes, how did you get into your first store? I have sold my art prints through retail locations, most are international at this time. All of those relationships have started with a wholesale inquiry to my inbox.
6. How do you start your day? Do you have rituals or things that you do the same each morning? How I start my day definitely has to do with my kids schedules. When it comes time to sit down and do my own work, I usually check emails, then fill orders, then I get right out into the garage and work on whatever batch of shelves I have in progress for that week. 7. What is your dream vacation? A dream vacation? Not sure really. I am a homebody so I have forfeited quite a few trips to invest that money into my home instead. Our most recent ‘vacation’ has added a new large covered porch to the back of our house, which is now my families favorite part of the house. With the kids getting bigger, we are sure to do little trips still over the summer, like short camping and beach trips. 8. What are your three favorite blogs/websites? I don’t frequent online sites very often, so it really would be impossible to pick three. I check the weather, news and then my various online venues. I feel like I sit at the computer so much as it is through the day, editing photos and listing products, that I don’t hang around for much personal enjoyment beyond that. 9. When setting up your shop, did you read books, blogs, or consult any experts? Or did you just wing it? I just winged it.

cleaners make me sick, I had to find alternatives. I eventually started makin gmy own. I rely on essential oils and Life on the Land’s list of the nine best natural cleansers. PLUS atheir list of links for easy recipes.

illustrator right now. It’s been fun. I love all these different classes that I’ve found one of my faves is this class from Nicole’s Classes. It teaches you how to make washi tape in illustrator!
