Indie Lovely Mini Mag Issue one

issue one

welcome! Hiya! So here’s my first issue of the mini-mag! I’ve been thinkin... I knew I wanted to start publishing a super cool newsletter... but not just any old newsletter. I wanted special effects like glitter, scratch & sniff stickers, and upcycled, eco friendly confetti.... When I remembered just how limited the internet still was, I settled for a cool interactive digital mini-mag: kinda like if my blog and magazine had a baby. I {of course} wanted to name my new baby after myself. I thought “Anne Jr.” sounded kinda weird, so I settled with “Indie Lovely Mini-Mag”. whatcha think? This mini mag is completely interactive. Click on photos to visit blogs, websites, and indie shopping straight from the artists. Anywhere you see pink text there is more info. Click to discover new blogs, indie shops and more! If you would like to subscribe to make sure you get future issues of this mini-mag, please do... OH! And don’t forget to check out all the back issues of the magazine on Indie Lovely.

a few of my faves...

1. I change up my skin care regi-

men every spring. I just found out about Pratima. It’s formulated by dosha type with ayervedic herbs & aromatherapy. Due to my extensive allergies and chemical sensitivities, I have been forced to find all natural holistic skin care lines. I avoid gluten, parabens, artificial preservatives, colors, fragrances, and I try to make sure everything is organic.

2. I am completely obsessed with flow-

ers. And making fabric flowers is so much fun. I found this lampshade on pinterest. I think we should try this idea on a thrift store lampshade. I am on the hunt for one to do something similar.

3. You guys! Ever wish that

that yummy cupcake was healthy enough to eat for dinner? Welllllll, in that case, you need to check out Desserts with Benefits. You will go crazy with all the nutritious recipes, which you totally could eat for dinner. {I have, but I’m sure that doesn’t surprise you!}

4. Ever wanted to try making your

own stamps? ME TOO! Check out this awesome carve-a-stamp-kit from Yellow Owl Workshop. They have a ton of fun stamp craft kits for purchase. I sense hours of fun in my near future.

5. Pretty hexagons anyone? Crochet

up these sweeties to join together for a blanket, purse, or even a lovely pillow case. Make them in spring pastels or use yellow and white to make daisies! Yellow and brown for sunflowers! Magenta and green for lotus flowers... Colour in a Simple Life’s blog has a bunch of cute crochet patterns that you’re gonna love.

6. LOOOOOOVE!

this cute DIY tank is from Trash to Couture. You know you can’t resist making one. All you need is an old racerback tank, and a thrifted lace crochet table runner or doily. Check out the rest of her patterns while you’re there. I pin my faves on pinterest too. Check out my boards for tons of indie inspiration www.pinterest.com/theindielovely xo, anne

Handmade Toledo:

Maker’s Mart

Craft shows make me happy. I love seeing my friends, and the amazing things they create. I totally dig the cool peeps that are into indie local shopping... and taking pics, of course. Here are a few of my faves from Handmade Toledo’s Maker’s Mart. It was held in conjunction with Artomatic 419. I met so many inspired new artists. I am keeping my most favorite vendor a secret until the summer issue of Indie Lovely. Seriously you guys, I wanted to buy everything. Lucky for you I took a crazy amount of photos.

I heart farm visits

We love to visit farms, especially in the spring. Tiny Girl just adores running around outside! We take a picnic and try to find a lovely little spot to sit and enjoy nature while we are there. This spring we’ve visited the Firestone farm in Greenfield Village, Maybury state park’s farm, and our family’s farm in Ottawa Lake. I love being out in nature, it reminds me of what is really important. It gives me a chance to get out of my head. It charges my batteries so that when I get back to my life, I feel more inspired and grounded. I can easily forget about how blue the sky really is, how lovely the flowers smell, and the miracle of Mother Nature’s gift. Farms have always been a source of joy for me. Watching food grow from seeds that were carefully planted, chasing chickens {and being chased right back by turkeys} was such a wonderful part of my childhood, that I feel honored to share it with my children.

Get inspired! I consider crafting to be a spiritual practice. Anytime you lose yourself in a project, when time flies by, and you are totally immersed in what you are creating, you are entering a meditative and healing state within. Nurture this part of yourself, especially if you are feeling unwell, to boost your immune system and your emotional wellbeing.

2. 1. 3.

1. Healing gemstones and buddha to the rescue. Putting massive intent into the lease application to our new house. We wanted it bad! 2. Tiny is addicted to arranging flowers. 3. Peep the blankie I made for myself! 4. Have I mentioned my obsession for deer, embroidery, and fun color combos? 4.
