TUEL

Bringing Kids Together

Toddler’s Universal Enjoyable Locomotion, a mobility product targetting physically disabled kids, suffering from leg injuries or amputation, and healthy kids ranging between the age of 3-5 years old; bringing them together for a shared childhood experience. The disabled kid will be offered an experience of freedom, interaction, development and self-confidence boosting through mobilizing without feeling differentiated. while healthy kids will enjoy a fun, enjoyable and a non-conventional new ride. This project went through a long process from observation of people’s mobility needs in the streets, to an extensive research in the field of physical disabilities, its emotional and physical consequences, and children psychology, physiology and features of play, then a design process to integrate mechanism and shape based on the needed function. Mediums Used: Rhinoceros for 3D modelling, Keyshot for rendering, and Adobe Photoshop CS5 for compositing. Size: The vehicle has a length of 113 cm, a width that starts at 27 cm in the front and ends at 50.2 cm at the back, and a maximum height point of 45 cm at the seat. The front wheel has a diameter of 21.2 cm, while the rear wheel has a 30 cm diameter.

Wobbly Stool

Unifying Qaulity of Elegance and Fun

A rocking stool inspired by active sitting that targets adults working at boring and dull offices and woking spaces. It is designed to be relaxing and creativity inducing. It combines elegance, making it fit to the environment, and comfortability with fun and hyperactivity where the user can play around with the non-fixed bean bags, have funfights with it or just arrange them in a way that makes them more comfortable. Aspects of usability were considered, therefore people of different height and weight can sit and enjoy the motion. A group work project aiming to find a new definition for active sitting and rocking. The first idea was chosen from a sketch that I did and then brainstormed and developed by all team members. I also participated in doing the Rhinoceros model for production and manufacturing the handmade beanbags in cutting and sewing it and filling it with foam particles. The stool was produced at Aziz’s workshop for wood and El Tarek workshop for plexiglas. Mediums Used: Ply wood, Oak wood, Plexiglas, black leather, white fabric, and foam particles. Size: The whole stool is 150 cms * 80 cms. The plexiglas starts at 20 cms and ends at 5cms with a thickness of 5mm. 32 bean bags were handmade.

A bag designed to fit for designers’ needs in their daily life and make it easier. The bag is designed to be able to carry all the materials that they use and move on all surfaces with a Tri-Lobe wheel which can move on straight surfaces and stairs. This bag targets young fashionable desginers who care about their looks and don’t want it to be ruined by all the materials designers carry on daily basis. The bag has vibrant colors that fit to the target group preferences. As a start, daily problems were pinpointed, then a design issue was chosen where mind maps were created and a mood board for the target group. A search for a wheel mechanism that could climb the stairs was conducted, as well as coming up with a design that conforms to a designer’s daily needs, as well as style, and providing it with features that ease the usage and the carrying process. An ergonomic handle was also designed to increase comfort. Mediums Used: For the models, foam board, Compressed foam and sand paper for shaping it.

D-Bag

Size: The bag itself ( excluding the wheel and the handle) has a height of 58 cm, a width that starts at 31.1 cm and ends at 40 cm, and a depth of 20 cm. The Tri-Lobe Wheel has a 39 cm diameter of a circle. The handle is 19 cm * 5 cm * 2.5 cm. The model is 25 cm * 15 cm * 7.5 cm.

Brainstorming & Mindmaps

Sketching & Mechanism Study

Pictures for the process I went through to reach my final product from the brainstorming phase of the problem of carrying heavy and many things, the mood board for my target group and materials designers carry and analysing the problem and studying its consequences. Then developing different approaches to solve the problem and assessing the pros and cons for every solution either for the bag or wheel mechansim. After that, studying how the mechanism of the wheel is going to work and the properties and features created in the bag.

Lucidity Bench Channel Out the Originality

January 16th, 2014

A bench that understands the human nature and preferences. Since vandalism is swamping the world as a form of self expression and humans tend to leave a mark behind them, the bench is made out of an anti-vandal material, the more you groove out, the more the exposed aggregates show and the more you add to the design. Also, the form of the bench is designed to conform to the different seating preferences people have. Thus it is an experimental project to discover how people will behave towards the bench. The design process started with an observation in the Egyptian streets to have an in-depths observation for public norms and problems. The design objective was then set to designing a public seat that found a new approach towards vandalism and conforms to public sitting behaviour, as well. A thorough study was conducted towards materials, then coming up with a creative solution for vandalism, and finally creating an abstract, minimalist form that has versatile sitting options, as well as in manufacturing. Mediums Used: Rhinocerous for modelling, Adobe Illustrator CS5 for pattern creating, and Keyshot for rendering.

The Fashion Evolution Exhibition A model for an exhibition design, targetting designers and design students, that features the evolution of fashion over history, starting with the Ancient World till present time and futuristic fashion concepts by current designers. The exhibition presents the variations that has occurred in terms of purpose and backgorund information of the design, types of fabrics used, the choice of colours and patterns, the reflection of societies and cultures and the influence of each fashion era on later eras in history. The exhibition starts at the room with the shape of a rectangle that includes the four civilizations of the Ancient World, Egypt, China, India and Rome, where each corner will be featuring clothes from each civilization. The second room, has a bit of a wavy shape representing the suppression, harsh circumstance of political and social life during the Medievel era, Renaissance, 18th and 19th century clothing, where fashion variations were an expression of social levels, influence of politics and how women’s bodies were perceived, and contains models with picked clothes from these different eras. The third room is an oval shape featuring the 1900s fashion trends and their influence on the 2000s trends where fashion is believed to have made a complete cycle. The fourth and last room is designers’ concepts about the future of fashion, its fabrics and the integration of technology within it.

The exhibition aims to give an insight into the fashion industry and history, inspirtaions for the designers and a strong base of knowledge and understanding to build on. The exhibition also offers something to think about through out its various phases, that is the importance of fashion in socities and as iconography of civilizations and cultures, using fashion as a tool of expression for political and social events, the role of fashion nowadays, is it a mere expression of beauty, a popular style, a way to express individual identity, or is it serving a certain cause and a reflection of surrounding events taking place. Mediums Used: Rhinoceros for the modeling, the human models were downloaded, and Keyshot 3 for rendering. Size: Using a scale of 1:100, the model width is 174.2 cm and the length is 162.7 cm, which implies that a real size model will be on an area of 284 meter square, approximately.

Technical Sketches Technical sketches for 2 conceptual designs, one for a home machine designed for recycling paper. The sketches shows shape development till reaching the final shape, showing it’s function and a user manual. The second concept is for a memory keeper and viewer designed for people suffering from any form of amnesia or want to cherich the moment, to allow the person to read, record data and recall them back. It records new events using a built-in camera or reads old memories using a device that reads and interprets neuron impulses in the brain. These memories are saved into a database with a very high capacity. Then it categorizes memories by giving labels such as: date/event/people. It can edit memories by deleting a certain bad memory or favoriting a special one. The thrid sktech is a dissection for the Venus Fly Trap studying the components of the plant, and its special features, to be later used as a reference and inspiration for creating products. Mediums Used: 0.3 mm and 0.1 mm Fine liners, design markers, artist pens, coloured pencils. Size: 42 cm * 30.5 cm.
