Pompom Ladybird (Ladybug) This is not the easiest pompom to make, because not only does it use two colours of wool, but you have to be careful how you wind the wool. However, there s fun in the challenge and it s not really that hard to do. You should cut out the body leg frame, help make the head parts and prepare the wool in to

lengths for younger children. The trimming is fun, but takes some courage because it feel like you are cutting so much off. Still, the end effect is worth it. Remember a glue gun is very hot and children should not use it unsupervised as the hot melted glue can cause nasty burns.
Junk used to make this model: wool x 2 colours, cardboard, drink cap, 2 x paper clips, 2 x beads (optional) 1. PRINT OUT THE TEMPLATE SHEET

2. GLUE THE DISC GUIDES TO A THIN PIECE OF CARD AND CUT OUT TWO DISCS 3. PREPARE THE WOOL BY DOUBLING IT UP SO THAT YOU HAVE PIECES ABOUT 2m LONG IN BUNDLES OF ABOUT 6 TO 10 STRANDS, DEPENDING ON HOW THICK THE WOOL IS. YOU MAY NEED 3 OR 4 SUCH BUNDLES 4. PASS THE WOOL THROUGH THE HOLE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DISC REPEATEDLY SO THAT YOU WIND IT ROUND THE DISC. 5. WHEN YOU FINISH A BUNDLE, START ANOTHER BUNDLE OF A CONTRASTING COLOUR OF WOOL, BUT THIS TIME DON T COVER THE WHOLE DISC, WRAP THE BUNDLE TWICE ROUND IN THE SAME PLACE AND THEN, LEAVING A GAP, DO THE SAME AT ANOTHER SPOT ON THE RING, SPACE FIVE OF THESE BUNDLE WRAPPINGS EVENLY ROUND THE DISC. 6. WHEN YOU HAVE DONE THIS, CUT OFF THE REMAINING CONTRASTING COLOUR AND START A NEW BUNDLE OF THE ORIGINAL COLOUR. WRAP THIS ROUND SO THAT IT COVERS UP THE SPACED OUT BUNDLES. REPEAT WITH THIS COLOUR UNTIL NO MORE WOOL WILL PASS THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF THE DISC. 7. USING STRONG SCISSORS, PUSH ONE BLADE OF THE SCISSORS INTO THE WOOL AND BETWEEN THE TWO CARD DISCS AND CUT THE WOOL ROUND THE RIM 8. PASS SEVERAL SHORT STRANDS OF THE WOOL BETWEEN THE DISCS AND TIE TIGHTLY ROUND THE BUNDLE AND CUT OFF BELOW THE ENDS OF THE POMPOM 9. MAKE THE BODY LEG ASSEMBLY FOLLOWING THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE LADYBIRD TEMPLATE SHEET. THEN PUSH ONLY ONE OF THE DISCS OFF THE BUNDLE AND SLIDE IN THE BODY LEG ASSEMBLY OVER THE REMAINING DISC. WHEN LEGS ARE IN PLACE, REMOVE THE OTHER DISC 10. BEND THE LEGS ROUND SO THAT YOUR LADYBIRD STANDS STRAIGHT 11. TRIM BACK VERY HARD, TO GET THE RIGHT SHAPE, ESPECIALLY UNDERNEATH
