THE CONAN DOYLE MYSTERY THEATRE ARCHITECTURE DESIGN STUDIO A 338495 ANNIE YU-JIA DU
The concept of this theatre design is based on the interchanging relationship between Holmes & Watson - this idea of order within chaos, emotion versus logic. Holmes can be the order in the relationship in that his thought process is anything but precise, logical and with reason, yet at the same time he is also chaos with his erratic behaviour & drug abuse, which is when he requires Watson to be the “order” which grounds him. The building design aims to represent this relationship by creating a series of internal circulation connections which follow a strict order, whilst the building is wrapped in a glass skin - which can be both the order or the chaos (Holmes). The skin began from a simple geometric object - a cube, which was then duplicated and intersected to create a sense of “order within chaos”.
