ENTERING THE WORLD OF REIKI

“You should learn how to do Reiki so you can give yourself Reiki everyday.”

This is the statement that was given to me by a Reiki practitioner, who I met along my life’s journey. I was at a point in my life trying to balance my chakras and reframe my thought patterns. One thing was for sure at that point in time - I had zero interest in learning to do Reiki. Just like everyone else, I was looking for an instant cure to my ailments and pain, and although I explored Reiki treatments for myself, it didn't strike me as something I wanted to learn. In 2017, both my husband and sister-in-law wanted to learn Reiki, but I was still adamant that I wasn’t interested . Unwillingly I went to the class, so we could pair off, practice and it was there I received my Reiki attunement. Now, there are no coincidences or mistakes in this Universe. Six months after learning Reiki, I registered for the Reiki Master class! Interesting to note, both my sister-in-law and husband had no interest in furthering Reiki, soI continued into the world of Reiki alone.

Healing the wounds

One of the things that always stood out for me about Reiki and what made it highly appealing was the fact that unlike traditional counselling, psychology and psychiatry, where you are required to replay and talk about your issues to ‘heal”, Reiki did not require any type of disclosure for a client to receive Reiki and begin their healing process. Reiki

is one of the kindest, loving, compassionate treatments you can participate in to bring about deep emotional healing, emotional releases and cultivate tremendous amounts of peace, relaxation and calm within.

Along life’s journey I have always found that women face numerous health and emotional issues that are often never voiced or discussed. Personally, what prompted me to continue my Reiki journey was the fact that doing daily selfreiki sessions (self treatment) resulted in memories and traumatic experiences from my past, returning to my conscious mind. I was torn at that time between repressing those memories, or following my curiosity with the type of healing that Reiki was bringing. I decided to investigate the latter, as a personal quest. When I became a Reiki Master in 2018, I had “under my belt” childhood trauma, psychological trauma from previous relationships, residential property that was seized, unresolved court matters and a post-graduate programme that I could not complete, due to the sexual power plays at the tertiary institution. As life continued in my journey as a woman, I also struggled with infertility issues, dealing with ovarian cysts, fibroids and the domestic expectations of being a full time working married Indian woman. This is exactly where Reiki has its place!

In juggling many of life’s responsibilities, there will be many turning points where we need to acknowledge the

wounds within. Louise Hay’s perspective of all diseases, is that it stems from fear or anger. The fear aspect encompasses all our tension, anxiety, nervousness, worry, doubt, insecurity, feeling not good enough and unworthiness. Anger often greets us as impatience, irritation, frustration, criticism, resentment, jealousy and bitterness. If we were to truly acknowledge a wound that we possess as women; could we really accept the following probable causes of our diseases? Let’s consider:

Ovarian issues stem from rejection of one’s femininity, guilt and fear?

Endometriosis stem from insecurity, disappointment and frustration?

Menopause issues come from place of the fear of no longer being wanted, fear of aging and self-rejection?

Cysts and fibroids stem from nursing hurt from a partner?

Yeast infections represent denying your own needs and not supporting yourself?

It is a bit tough to digest, isn’t it? But we need to begin to not only acknowledge, but also understand that we are doing our best with our lives at any point in time. Since Reiki entered my life, no matter what obstacle, suffering, ailment or medical condition I face, Reiki has remained my constant “goto” for returning to my centre and reclaiming my calm.

WOMENSBIZGLOBAL.COM | 7 February 2024

After I completed my first Reiki Master title, I went on to pursue the Holy Fire © III Karuna Reiki © Master level. The word “Karuna” is a Sanskrit word meaning "compassion," and this form of healing is rooted in the idea of cultivating compassionate action towards oneself and others. Any true form of healing resides within and the only way we can be kind to others is by being kind to ourselves. The only way we can be loving to others, is to be loving to ourselves. The only way we can bring peace to others is by being that symbol of peace. When Karuna reiki entered my life, it also brought such unexplained healing to others. In fact, I realised the more I worked on healing myself, the more others received healing and emotional releases for their distress and trauma.

In fact, it is often extremely difficult to describe where and how Reiki flows and thus brings healing to individuals. For example, silences and blank stares might be the most common reaction if I said Reiki heals past lives, heals deeply seated issues on a cellular level, dissolves unconscious negative patterns that insulate you from the truth, heals the shadow self, grounds the physical body, connects you to your Higher self, restores balance and fills you with unconditional love. To understand how Reiki heals is to really picture a place of non-judgement, free from all criticism, any type of emotional turmoil, releasing all trauma and fill that space with only love. Reiki has also made me rethink what love is and what it really means on my life journey. Reiki allows more love to flow, because your infinite nature is love, your core is love and your entire being is love. Nothing

more, nothing less. It is only the countless memories that cloud our lives and prevent us from seeing that every single thing comes from a place of love. Every single thought, action and behaviour we seek comes from a place of love and it is with Reiki, that I find this place of love within myself, time and time again.

Triumphs and Successes

Since Reiki entered into my life in 1997, it continues to be the most unexpected and surprising path. Reiki is not only about healing your wounds-it is about finding clarity, alignment and inspiration on your journey, as well as discovering your highest purpose. Reiki has become my major style and preference for creating inner peace and building my meditative practice.

In 2020, in the Reiki News Magazine, I had the honour of having my first publication with the modality of Reiki and I shared how Reiki entered my life and the impact on my family members in “Reiki in the Caribbean”. Later on that year I wrote about “My relationship with the Holy Fire © Reiki Energy”. In the pandemic, I also decided that I wanted to venture into the world of Reiki as a business and I formed my own company; The Reiki Lighthouse.

As I furthered my practice, I had the opportunity to be a featured writer in The Universal Life Magazine: A Magazine for Reiki Professionals. I have written about vision boards, the use of the Reiki symbols, my story of completing a 1000-day gratitude practice, applying Reiki to food, the art of stillness (meditative poses) and the importance of the

digital community to the Reiki world. I have also published with The Energy Healing Magazine, chapters describing the energetic signatures of grief and loss, gateways to happiness and the meditation postures of stillness and movement. In the Pillar of Light: Lifestyle and Business Magazine in October 2023; I highlighted the use of Reiki Drumming to facilitate Ancestral Healing. Another highlight in 2023 was being invited to be a featured speaker in the 2023 “Reiki Healing Summit” and speaking on ‘Empowering your Vision with Reiki’.

In two successive years of 2022 and 2023, I have had the accolades of being one of the “Top Ten Energy Healers” of that year awarded by The Energy Healing Magazine for my work, service and accomplishments to Reiki as a healing modality, publications to the energy world and offering free Reiki to the public. Although many of my projects are related to the world of Reiki, I also engage in numerous speaking engagements ranging from empowering women, poetry reading for children and speaking on human rights.

Ongoing Lessons

Offering Reiki in a Caribbean is no easy task in a region where religious beliefs, spiritual beliefs and conditioning are very strong. However, it remains a very joyous path for all those who encounter it and use it on themselves or others. Reiki provides deep relaxation and calm to the physical body. In a world where people’s lifestyles are hectic, geared towards responsibilities and deadlines; Reiki offers a sanctuary like no other.

AS I CONTINUE TO BREATHE, I CONTINUE TO LEARN AND THE LESSONS ARE MANY. IT IS TRULY ONLY IN RETROSPECTIVE MODE THAT WE BEGIN TO SEE HOW MANY OBSTACLES, CHALLENGES AND DIFFICULTIES WE HAVE LIVED THROUGH AND SURPASSED. NO MATTER WHAT IS BEING PRESENTED TO YOU, NO MATTER HOW IT LOOKS HOW IT FEELS, LIFE IS PRESENTING . WHAT MAKES LIFE INTERESTING IS THE VARIED TYPES OF EXPERIENCES WOMEN HAVE EXPERIENCED. SOME EXPERIENCES WE HAVE SURVIVED ARE TRULY TRAGIC, HORRIFIC AND DIFFICULT TO REPEAT OR RECALL TO OTHERS; FOR THOSE WOMEN I DO BELIEVE LIFE IS ASKING US TO ALCHEMIZE, CHANNEL AND TRANSFORM OUR WOUNDS INTO WONDERS.

In order to harness your creative energy and to keep it flowing, we need to learn to flow like a river. A river has a beginning and an end. While a river may not wish to have mud, dirt or pollutants in it, that is part of the experience of being a river. As entrepreneurs, we need to be able to recognise what pollutes our waters and when it is time to dredge the river. We are in constant desire of others who are reevaluating their goals and moving forward with innovative ideas. We need to be self aware to know that there will be many turning points in our lives that require us to engage with others differently, network with different communities and global forums. We need to be able to step up bravely and acknowledge when a chapter has ended and when we need to cut ties with individuals.

My journey with Reiki is teaching me how to flow with life; to pour only into that which pours into me. It is a constant dance. In the digital age and with creative energies on a high, we also need to recognise that collaborations are a must for

the future. Any entrepreneur looking to move towards future trends and global impacts, must be willing to step into the world of collaborations and be an active participant in all their forums, communities and associations.

Being the beacon of love

My personal vision remains to see the increase of professional Reiki practitioners and teachers. I wish to see Reiki become so mainstream that it infiltrates different sectors of society worldwide. I also challenge Reiki Master Teachers like myself to step up and be mentors for those now entering this path.

Some Employee Assistance Programs are now incorporating Reiki sessions as an option for the Health and Wellness of their employees. Reiki is being promoted more with the professional sport and athletic world. It is more common now for Reiki practitioners to work with athletes and it is often highlighted as a “training aid” for athletes that can lower the risk of severe injury, promote

focus and concentration, relieve sore, stiff muscles, promote healing in new and old injuries, reduce healing time, re-energise the body and relieve fatigue. Imagine going to a school where the teachers have been trained in Reiki or the school offers a “Reiki Kids Workshop” or a “Reiki Room” where children and students at the school can experience Reiki for stress reduction. This, I hope, is soon to become a reality.

In a field such as Reiki, I take great care in creating a sacred space and sanctuary for those wanting to become more grounded in life, take charge of their emotional healing, gain clarity and welcome more peace and calm in their lives. My services to both local and international clientele include individual healing sessions, consultations, teaching, mentoring, workshops and meditations. I am Akleema Ali, in the beautiful Republic of Trinidad &Tobago in the Caribbean. I remain a beacon of love, kindness and compassion to all those that I encounter.

HOW TO BECOME A SAVVY BUSINESS OWNER

Ihave some very exciting news for you all! Later this year, Women’s Biz Publishing is releasing yet another incredible book which is all about how to brand your business for success. As we all know, in the fast-paced world of today, standing out from the crowd is crucial, yet I have always believed that an effective way to do this, is by building a strong brand for your company.

A solid brand not only distinguishes you from competitors but also creates a lasting impression on your customers. Throughout the writing process of my upcoming book, I’ve talked about tips and strategies to build your company’s brand for success and although I don’t want to give all of them away, here is some advice for how to get started.

Know Your Identity

Before you start slapping logos on everything, take a moment to reflect on your company's identity. What values do you hold? What makes your products or services unique? How is your product going to help others? Understanding your core identity will guide your branding decisions and help you connect with your target audience on a deeper level.

Define Your Target Audience

Who exactly are you trying to reach? If you don’t know this, then how will you sell anything? Knowing your target audience is like having a secret weapon in branding. Tailor your brand messaging, visuals, and

even your tone, to resonate with the people you want to attract. Whether it's tech-savvy millennials or busy parents, understanding your audience is key to building a brand that speaks to them.

Craft a Memorable Logo

Your logo is often the first thing people notice about your company, so make it count. Keep it simple, memorable and reflective of your brand's personality. I even recommend hiring a graphic designer if you're not a Picasso with pixels. It’s also important that your logo is versatile enough to work across various platforms, from business cards to your website, to social media.

Develop a Consistent Visual Identity

Consistency is the name of the game in branding. Choose a colour palette, typography and imagery that align with your brand's personality, and stick with them. Whether it's your website, marketing materials, or packaging, maintaining a consistent visual identity builds brand recognition and trust. Although this can be a long process of trial and error, it is worth it, as once you have found a visual identity that represents YOU, it’s a major step forward in building a successful brand.

Craft Your Unique Selling Proposition (USP)

What sets your company apart?

Why should people choose you over competitors? Why is your product or service a must-have? Your Unique Selling Proposition, or USP, is that special sauce that makes customers choose you over the others. Whether it's exceptional customer service, eco-friendly practices, or unbeatable prices, make sure your USP shines through in your branding.

Establish a Brand Voice

Your brand should speak with a consistent voice across all channels. Whether it's witty, professional, or friendly (I love all of the above!), your tone should align with your brand's personality all the time. Train your team to use this voice in customer interactions, social

media, and any written content to reinforce your brand image and try to choose an authentic voice – people can spot a fake a million miles away.

Leverage Social Media

We all know this is the digital age, so, love it or loathe it, social media is an invaluable tool for building brand awareness. Choose platforms that align with your target audience and engage with your followers. Share your company's story, behind-the-scenes glimpses, and user-generated content to humanise your brand. Whatever you do, keep it honest, authentic and personable. The more people can relate to you, your story or your brand, the more you will succeed.

Seek Customer Feedback and Adapt

Your customers are your biggest

critics and cheerleaders, so listen to them! Actively seek their feedback and use it to refine and adapt your branding strategy. Whether it's positive testimonials or constructive criticism (yes, just grin and bear it), customer input can be a goldmine for making your brand more appealing.

As you can see from this glimpse into the world of building a successful brand, it doesn’t necessarily require a fancy marketing degree. It's about understanding who you are, who your customers are, and crafting a consistent and authentic image that resonates with them.

So, while you wait for my new book to hit the shelves, roll up your sleeves, really get to know your brand and start setting your company on the path to branding success.

IN THE FASTPACED WORLD OF BUSINESS, WHERE COMPETITION IS FIERCE AND OPPORTUNITIES ABOUND, I’VE COME TO REALISE THAT STANDING OUT IS NO LONGER A LUXURY—IT'S A NECESSITY. I BELIEVE THAT ONE POWERFUL WAY TO RISE ABOVE THE NOISE AND MAKE A LASTING IMPACT IS BY ESTABLISHING YOURSELF AS AN AUTHORITY IN YOUR FIELD. BUT WHY IS THIS SO IMPORTANT, AND HOW CAN IT TRANSFORM YOUR PROFESSIONAL JOURNEY?

POSITION YOURSELF AS AN AUTHORITY

Today, we’re going to explore the myriad benefits of mastering the art of authority and how it can unlock the doors to unparalleled success. So, grab a pen to take notes and let’s dive in!

Credibility: Earning Your Stripes

Picture this: As you walk into a room, heads turn and whispers resound as people recognise you as the go-to expert in your industry. This immediate credibility isn't just a confidence booster; it's a game-changer. Not only are clients and colleagues more inclined to trust your insights, but your credibility and respect in whatever field you work in will also result in lasting business relationships.

Competitive Advantage: Shining in the Spotlight

The business world is a stage, and establishing authority is your spotlight. Setting yourself apart from the competition isn't just about skills; it's about showcasing your expertise in a way that captivates and resonates. You don’t necessarily have to offer something better than your competition; you just need to think outside the box in regards to how you offer your service or product to make it stand out. Become the shining star that people turn to for unique insights and innovative solutions.

Opportunities for Collaboration: Building Bridges

Collaboration is the heartbeat

of success, and when you are an authority, you become a soughtafter collaborator. Doors swing open for partnerships, joint ventures, and projects that can propel your career or business to new heights. People will want you to speak at the summits or on their podcasts – relish these opportunities as it’s not just about what you know, but is also about who you know—and who knows you.

Enhanced Networking: Making Lasting Connections

Networking isn't just about swapping business cards and drinking free wine (although this is always a bit of fun!); it's about leaving a lasting impression. As an authority, your name becomes synonymous with expertise, making you more memorable and referral-worthy. Forge meaningful connections that go beyond superficial exchanges, as these will undoubtedly lead to mentorship opportunities and fruitful collaborations.

Career Advancement: Climbing the Ladder of Success

Climbing the corporate ladder or advancing in your career requires more than just skills—it demands authority. Employers seek individuals who not only bring expertise, but who also bring thought leadership and innovation. Establishing yourself as an authority within your arena (and on your CV) can be the catalyst that propels your career to new heights and opens the door to a plethora of new opportunities.

WOMENSBIZGLOBAL.COM | 15 February 2024

Personal Branding: Crafting Your Professional Identity

Your personal brand is a canvas, and your authority is the paint that brings it to life. Shape a positive and influential brand that attracts opportunities and speaks volumes about your capabilities. Let your personal brand tell a compelling story of expertise, reliability, and success. But remember to remain authentic and practice what you preach – stay true to who you really are and your authority will come naturally.

Impact on Business Success: Authority as the Driving Force

Ultimately, establishing authority isn't just about personal recognition—it's about impacting the success of your business. Whether you're an entrepreneur, executive, or professional, being viewed as an authority attracts clients, partners and investors, contributing to the overall success and sustainability of your ventures. It’s also a good idea to remember that the pursuit of authority is a journey of continuous learning and growth. So, stay ahead of industry developments, embrace new

TO IMPROVE

MENTAL HEALTH

Take time out? It’s a joke right?. Everyone is busy these days, desperately trying to multi-task and keep all their balls in the air. The experience of working from home during the lockdowns of 2020 and 2021 blurred the lines between home and work to such a degree that many of us still find it difficult to create any kind of balance. FOMO – fear of missing out – is at an all time high and the excitement and novelty of finally being able to go places and do things has led to a lot of over-scheduling.

Busy Doesn’t Equal Important

Now more than ever, it seems the majority of us still feel we have to demonstrate that we are ‘keeping busy’ and ‘being productive’. While some of us were guilty of this before, our experience of the pandemic and its many lockdowns, has made it even worse. We worked so hard to adapt our lives to be able to do everything from home. It seems many of us now feel that we have to continue to demonstrate just how much we can accomplish. How many times have you been met with the reply “busy” when you enquired about someone’s wellbeing?

To be fair, there are a lot of people out there trying to sell us things to help keep us busy, so it serves them to encourage us to feel that we also have to be. However, despite what society, the media and many advertisers would have us

believe, we do not have to be busy to justify our existence. There’s no requirement to be doing something productive all the time, nor should we feel we have to account for every minute of our day. It is perfectly okay to allow yourself to take time out.

Why We Need To Take Time Out

We need to nurture ourselves to provide us with the physical and mental energy to face the challenges that arise before us. Even facing minor challenges is hard when you are feeling frazzled. We expect so much of ourselves, yet most of us stubbornly refuse to cut ourselves even the tiniest amount of slack. It isn’t surprising we feel unable to cope from time to time. It’s important to take time out so that we can nurture ourselves and be creative.

1. Finding Balance By Taking Time Out

Minimise your distraction time

Or as the Italians say "dolce far niente": the sweetness of doing nothing. Everyone enjoys doing nothing every now and then. But when is doing nothing too much?

I think of my distraction time as any time spent aimlessly scrolling through Instagram and Facebook, watching Netflix shows or movies that I'm not learning much from, taking naps, OR just being plain old lazy. Trying to minimise this time can be hard, but when you do and replace it with something that is still fun, but a little more productive and works toward your goals, you will see how much time you really do have.

UNPLUGGING
WOMENSBIZGLOBAL.COM | 17 February 2024

IF you think you'll #struggle minimising this special time then read my next tip...

2. Multi-task

If you really don't want to give up watching that episode of The Office that you've seen 100 times to focus on your art or hobby, think of ways you can multitask.

Can you set up Netflix on your phone in your art room and work on your art while you watch it?

Instead of going to the same bar every weekend, maybe you can convince your friends to go to an art gallery opening, craft fair, concert, or some kind of creative social event with you...

If you feel you can't do any of the above, don’t give up, just keep on reading!

3. Make your distraction time productive time

How can you take what you're already doing every day and make it more productive? Instagram is the biggest distraction in my life, 100%. I used to consider it a "distraction" because it took me away from work and into a world of memes and dog videos. Now, instead of scrolling through Instagram aimlessly like I used to, I started a Business Instagram to connect with other accounts and businesses that inspired me. You can do the same. There's an Instagram account for literally ANYTHING you can think of. Along with following accounts of your interest, also take the time to follow motivational, business, money saving and investing type accounts, as an additional motivator. Once you have found relative people in

your community online, take time to promote yourself, your art, and your brand online. Message people and comment on their work. Scrolling through Instagram with this intent is kind of like doing research on your study to see what's out there. I've found this a great way to feel like you aren't wasting your life staring at other people's lives.

You can still check your friend's posts on your personal account, but do it sporadically.

4. Break your work into pieces

I started to draft a rough timeline that seemed to work for me when I have an order that has to be completed. When I say I take it step-bystep, I mean there may be one day I only put in five minutes toward the piece I'm working on. Another day, maybe a few hours. It is best to keep it flexible so that it really is adjustable with your weekly schedule, because after all, every week is different. One week you may have dinner plans Tuesday and Thursday night, maybe you're going away over the weekend. Fitting in your art or hobby is just about scheduling it in! With this rough outline, I never feel overwhelmed with how much time needs to go into a piece. I just think of it as a continuous work in progress.

To sum up, there was a time in my life when I thought deleting all of my social media accounts would make me a happier person- would help my focus and appreciation of life.

That was until I realised that that's not the answer at all. The answer was to REDIRECT my attention.

If I were to delete all my social media accounts, I believe that would make me insignificant to the greater world.

The answer is not being insignificant, it is being significant for the reasons that matter to you.

So don't be ashamed to put yourself out there. With all I've learned now, it's crazy to think that there was a time I didn't know half this stuff existed. I didn't know there was motivational stuff on Netflix, Podcasts on Spotify, or so many amazing Art accounts on Instagram. In my experience, no one really tells you this stuff, it just has to be discovered by you. Discovering this new world has changed a lot for me, ESPECIALLY for my motivation!

With this rough outline, I am never overwhelmed with how much time needs to go into a piece. I just think of it as a continuous work in progress.

WHEN WE THINK OF ANIMATION, WE PICTURE ILLUSTRATIONS AND DIGITAL STORYBOARDS COMING TO LIFE. WHEN A PERSON SHARES EXCITING NEWS IN A HAPPY STATE WE SAY, “DON’T THEY LOOK ANIMATED?” NOW, THE PHRASE ‘RE-ANIMATE’ HAS AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT MEANING IN THE WORLD OF MEDICINE — TO BRING A PERSON BACK TO LIFE.

MEDICAL ENTHUSIAST, DR. NATALIE KRUIT IS EXPLORING A NEWFOUND TECHNOLOGY THAT IS SET TO TAKE SYDNEY (AND AUSTRALIA) BY STORM. AFTER COMPLETING A DEGREE IN PSYCHOLOGY AND NURSING, THE MOTHER OF TWO WAS DETERMINED TO TAKE IT ONE STEP FURTHER. WHEN HER HEART LED HER TO COMPLETE A MEDICAL DEGREE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEY, SHE SOON REALISED THAT HER ROLE WAS TO SHIFT PERSPECTIVES AS A FORMIDABLE MEDIC.

WHY THINKING INSIDE THE BOX CAN SAVE LIVES

After spending ten years training to be a specialist cardiac anaesthetist at Westmead Hospital, Natalie qualified as an Anaesthetist, specialising in resuscitation and reanimation. Natalie explained, “It still amazes me how the heart can restart after it stops – the heart is at the core of everything. Without it, things just don’t work”.

This is very true, on so many levels.

As a self-confessed adrenalin chaser with a desire to help those literally on a cliff’s edge, Natalie rotates as an onboard doctor with NSW Rescue Helicopters. “Being able to save people who would otherwise not make it, is why I do what I do”, says Natalie. “Resuscitation and reanimation is at the pointiest edge of medicine. As a doctor, this is ultimately what we strive for. To save lives”.

During a twelve-month traineeship in the UK, she received specialist training in a new and ground-breaking piece of technology, Cardiohelp. Natalie describes Cariohelp as the tech-box that increases the chances of survival tenfold. This ‘box’ performs

Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO). The ECMO procedure — otherwise known as the E-CPR technique — is a digital device that can drain all the blood from a patient, pump it into a machine, oxygenate the blood, remove the waste, and pump it back into the patient. All whilst their heart and lungs are essentially failing.

In the early 1970’s, ECMO research began with adults but quickly turned to newborns with breathing problems. Dr Robert Bartlett, the creator of ECMO successfully treated the first newborn in 1975 in Irvine, California. Now, this technology can be seen around the world.

With a rise in respiratory patients due to the Coronavirus pandemic this technology is needed more than ever. A specialist hospital in France has seen an increase from 20 patients per month to a further (and frightening) two hundred admissions needing this life-saving treatment. Seeing a surge of patients admitted for this treatment, the specialist French team who coined the first hospital to house ‘The Reanimation Department’, continue to perform this ground-breaking procedure.

Women's Biz Magazine 20 | WOMENSBIZGLOBAL.COM

When a heart stops, there is a 5-8% chance of survival if cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) does not work in the first twenty-minutes. For the last seven years, E-CPR has been active in hospitals, increasing the survival rate by 33%. But, for every minute in cardiac arrest after thirty-minutes, there is a 2.5% mortality rate increase.

The recent landmark ‘ARREST’ trial has demonstrated a 100% survival rate if the patient is on ECMO in less than 30 mins. This is game changing!

Natalie — the only doctor in Australia equipped to perform pre-and in-hospital reanimation using this device — questioned, ‘‘how can we use this technology to reanimate life on the streets of Sydney?”. She now wants to take this procedure into the city’s busy metropolis — especially as this can be hard for emergency response vehicles to navigate. “If we can do this on any walkway, we can

up the chances of survival by a staggering 50%,” she predicts.

“When the next ‘000’ call comes in, I want to see this technology onboard with a doctor equipped to use it”.

As a humanitarian in medicine, Natalie’s passion is clear.

“Walking into a room offering hope to patients and their families when all hope has been lost is everything,” she says. “When the local hospital has exhausted all other treatment, this technology can alter that.”

Natalie says critical care is simply her passion — and it’s never more important than in the wake of a pandemic.

“One patient of mine had coronavirus,” says Natalie “She was supported with this technology for six weeks. It never came off. The machine essentially was a digital lung and until her body recovered,

we continued this treatment. Now she practices Zumba five times a week”.

To save Sydneysiders at the scene of a Cardiac Arrest, this technology doesn’t come without its challenges. Natalie is at the forefront of a campaign to raise both awareness and funds to support this medical trial with each device costing $250k. “Every researcher and health care professional will advocate for a treatment close to their heart, but this device is for the heart,” she says. “This will save so many more lives! My job now is to convince my peers why”.

As a medical entrepreneur, Natalie is inspired to integrate cutting-edge technology at the curbs and on the cliff topsof Australia. As the only doctor in Australia trained to perform this procedure outside of a hospital setting, Natalie is certainly determined – and reanimation just became a lot more life-like.

BUSINESS AND INTUITION TRUSTING YOUR GUT IN

Find out how to trust your intuition and overcome doubts in your business decisions.

“Trust your gut” – a piece of advice we’ve all heard, but how often do we apply it to the world of business? Trusting your intuition in business is a powerful tool that can lead to more confident decisionmaking and, ultimately, success. In this article, we’ll explore how to overcome doubts in business by trusting your intuition. We’ll dive into understanding intuition, its role in decision-

making, and how to harness it effectively. So, let’s jump right in!

What is Intuition and How Does it Work?

Intuition is a gut feeling, an inner voice that speaks to us when we’re faced with a decision. It’s our brain’s way of processing information quickly, using past experiences and emotions to guide us. Intuition can be a powerful tool in business, but many people struggle to trust it, often leading to indecision and doubts.

The Science Behind Intuition

Recent research shows that intuition is more than just a hunch; it’s a complex cognitive process based on pattern recognition and experience. Our brains are constantly taking in and processing information, even when we’re not consciously aware of it. When faced with a decision, our intuition kicks in, providing us with a quick assessment based on the patterns we’ve learned over time.

TIPS FOR CRAFTING YOUR FIRST BOOK

Hey there, aspiring authors!

Did 2023 have you dreaming about telling your story, sharing your wisdom, or bringing your imagination to life in the form of a book? Perhaps you just never got around to it, or perhaps you didn’t know where to start? Well, 2024 is here and now is the time to literally put pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard, and write your story.

Undoubtedly, crafting your first book can be an incredible journey, yet it is also one that requires goals, experimentation and persistence, which is why today, Women’s Biz Publishing going to share some of our top tips and tricks on getting your story up and running.

Start with your Passion

Think about what truly ignites your passion. Is it a personal story, an expertise you want to share or a fictional world you’ve been conjuring up in your mind? Your passion will be the driving force behind your writing, so choose a topic or genre that genuinely excites you. There’s no point writing about something you’re not that into as trust me, the words will not come.

Set Realistic Goals

Writing a book is a big undertaking, so set achievable goals. Break it down into smaller tasks—maybe a certain number of words per day or chapters per week. Writing is not a sprint; it's a marathon, so grab some protein bars and settle in for the long haul. Persistence will pay off and before you know it, you’ll have 35,000 words on your hands.

Find Your Writing Style

Experiment with different writing styles until you find one that feels comfortable and authentic to you. Are you a planner who likes outlines and structure, or do you prefer to let your story unfold as you write? There's no right or wrong way, so embrace the style that suits your

creativity and stick to it.

Create a Writing Routine

Establish a writing routine that works for you. Whether it's early mornings, late nights, or during lunch breaks—find a time that fits your schedule and follow it. Consistency breeds progress, and having a routine helps keep the momentum going.

Also, remember your first draft doesn't have to be perfect. In fact, it's supposed to be messy (or a work of art!). Allow yourself to write freely without worrying too much about grammar or structure in the beginning, as you can always refine and polish it all up during the editing phase.

UNLEASH YOUR STORY:
WOMENSBIZGLOBAL.COM 24 | Women's Biz Magazine

Silence the Inner Critic

We all have that little voice inside our head telling us that our writing isn’t good enough, or that the storyline is a dud. Well, this year, tell that voice to shove it and believe in what you have to share. Everyone has doubts, especially when starting something new, so don’t let the voice of self-doubt hold you back. Keep writing and trust that your voice matters.

Seek Feedback, Support and an Editor

A good book takes different sets of eyes to read over it, offer feedback and most importantly, edit it. Once you have a draft

Annie Gibbins

ready, don't be afraid to join writing groups, find a mentor, or share your work with trusted friends. Constructive criticism can help you refine your story and make it even better. Personally, I can’t stress the importance of also having an editor – they are there to polish up everything and make your words shine, so use them!

Celebrate Milestones and Believe in Yourself

Acknowledge and celebrate your progress along the way. Completing a chapter, hitting a word count goal, or finishing your first draft—all these milestones deserve recognition. Treat yourself; you've earned it!

Founder and CEO, Women’s Biz Global

Above all, believe in yourself and your story. Writing a book is a remarkable accomplishment, and your voice deserves to be heard. Trust in your abilities, stay determined, and keep moving forward.

Remember, every author starts somewhere. So, grab that pen or charge up your keyboard, and start writing your story. Women’s Biz Publishing are here if you need to help you kick off this journey but really, the only person who can bring your story to light is you, so make 2024 the year of crafting your first book!

Happy writing!

Hello superstars,

In today's hyper-connected, technology-driven world, getting your business noticed amid the digital noise can be challenging. More recently, I too have had to refine and enhance my tech skills to ensure

my own business remains a presence in the wide, seemingly endless, world of the internet. And let me tell, you, although it has been challenging to stay ahead of these ever-changing trends, it has been undoubtedly worth it.

With the right strategies, and by following some of my favourite actionable tips to elevate your brand in the eyes of the media, you too can amplify your business's presence and gain valuable media visibility that drives growth and results.

Define Your Unique Story

Let’s face it, everyone loves a good story and this shouldn’t be overlooked in boosting your business’s presence. If you want to be seen, you need to craft a compelling narrative that defines your brand's journey, values and mission. Highlight what makes your business stand out and identify your own unique story - ensuring it resonates with both your audience and the media.

Build Relationships with Journalists and Influencers

Love them or hate them, journalists and influencers are there for a reason and if used in the right way, can really amplify your business’s profile, and I highly recommend connecting with journalists, bloggers and social media influencers

relevant to your industry. You could engage with them by sharing valuable insights, participating in discussions, or offering to contribute guest articles. Have an influencer talk about or use your product and service to gain even more traction and amplification. Remember, journos and influencers can have huge audiences, so if you can build successful and genuine relationships with them, it can lead to positive media coverage and endorsements for your business.

Create High-Quality Content

There’s no point being a visible business in the world of media, if you aren’t offering people content – this is key to remaining ahead of the rest. Blogs, videos, infographics, podcasts, social media posts – you name it, you should be doing it. People want the interaction, they want to engage with your brand and the more content you produce, the more you will be seen as an authority in your field and the more media attention you will attract.

Leverage Social Media Platforms

There’s more to social media than just posting funny memes

or putting up work party photos. If used effectively, social media is a fantastic tool to amplify your brand's reach. Some of my top tips would be to share your content across platforms frequented by your target audience, engage with your users, participate in relevant conversations and leverage hashtags to increase visibility. Social media exists for a reason, so amp up and use it to your business’s advantage.

Capitalise on Press Releases and Media Pitches

If your business is about to launch a new or exciting product or service, or you have achieved something in the business world that needs to be shared – make sure your audience gets the opportunity to hear about it. A good (and often free) way to do this, is through press releases or media pitches. Once you’ve crafted your concise and compelling press release that highlights important company updates, product launches or achievements, be sure to tailor your pitch to suit different media outlets, and emphasise the ways in which your story aligns with their particular audience's interests. The more personal your pitch, the greater likelihood they’ll print it.

WOMENSBIZGLOBAL.COM 28 | Women's Biz Magazine

It's also essential to keep track of your media coverage and engage with it. Respond promptly to comments, thank journalists for their coverage, update blog posts (no-one wants to read blogs from 2008) and leverage positive coverage by sharing it across your marketing channels.

Be Consistent and Responsive

Consistency is key in the world of media visibility. Keep showing up and engaging with your audience regularly. Being responsive and present builds trust and keeps your brand on people's radar. Although consistency and authenticity are your superpowers, it’s also imperative to stay true to your brand, while actively engaging with the media landscape. Only then will you see your visibility soar to new heights.

It's Time to Amplify

By implementing these simple yet powerful tips, you can enhance your business's media presence and gradually grow your visibility. Remember, gaining media visibility takes time and effort, so don’t be discouraged by seemingly slow progress. It will happen.

Just continue to refine your strategies based on what works best for your business and audience, stay true to your brand, as well as to yourself, and engage, engage, engage.

Emily Ciardiello, a former secondary school teacher, has risen to prominence as the Co- Founder and CEO of Foil Me and home. by Foil Me. With innovative, artistic and sustainable beauty products, she revolutionised the hairdressing industry. Her achievements include multiple Business Awards and finalist recognitions, showcasing her leadership and business acumen. Her remarkable journey from education to entrepreneurship, coupled with her commitment to giving back, serves as an inspiring example of passion and purpose.

ADAPTABLE LEADERSHIP

EMILY CIARDIELLO; CO-FOUNDER, COOWNER AND CREATIVE DIRECTOR OF FOIL ME, DELVES

INTO ITS BENEFITS IN BUSINESS

What is adaptable leadership & how do you incorporate it in your business?

I have a wholistic approach to leadership that includes consideration of my leadership style, particularly when it comes to both my team and our customers. Essentially, being an adaptable leader is being flexible, resilient and versatile. As your business evolves, it is important to be able to create new strategies, embrace change and cultivate innovation within your team. I do this with my employees by encouraging continuous learning, being vulnerable and open with my communication, as well as empowering my team to take calculated risks. However, the focus on adaptable leadership also comprises awareness of your

customers and their needs, staying abreast of market trends and not shying away from technological advancements that your customers resonate with, this is imperative.

Why do you believe adaptable leadership is important in business?

Adaptable leadership is crucial in today’s world. The global market is changing so quickly and there are many uncertainties, particularly with emerging technologies. As leaders, we need to ensure we can deal with these, and also teach our employees to be resilient. By encouraging elasticity in your team, you can teach them to have the ability to swiftly adjust strategies, be innovative and possess high problemsolving capabilities.

Women's Biz Magazine WOMENSBIZGLOBAL.COM 30 |

Nurturing relationships, both internally and externally is just one of the ways I ensure team and customer morale is high. For example, by remaining open to suggestions and acting on customer feedback, we continue to be at the top of the market, as opposed to leadership, where the mindset is exactly that – a set mind.

Who is adaptable leadership most suited to?

This may be controversial, but I believe that women or men who have been at home with a dependent (whether that is children or another) are best at being adaptable leaders, because they have had to live in an unpredictable environment.

Also, industries and situations where capriciousness, technological advancements, creativity and evolving market conditions are the norm, would benefit from leaders who are adaptable.

In essence, adaptable leadership is most suited for those leading in contexts that demand flexibility, creativity, resilience, and a proactive response to change.

What are the top qualities of being an adaptive leader?

These are the main merits I look for if I’m employing someone for a leadership role:

1. Flexibility: It is imperative in our business that our team are open to (and they embrace) change, so they can adjust strategies when needed. Foil Me is a creative business where we don’t do ‘the norm’ in our marketing and branding, so they need to be flexible in their

thinking and embrace new ideas and approaches.

2. Resilience: I need someone who can handle uncertainty and challenges, who can bounce back from setbacks, learn from failures, and have an optimistic outlook.

3. Collaboration and effective communication : At Foil Me, we have a VERY collaborative culture, where team members feel empowered to contribute ideas, so it is an important quality for leaders to value diverse perspectives, whilst navigating change or

challenges. They need to be able to keep the team informed, provide reasons for change and explain why certain decisions are made.

I also look for inspirational individuals and those who maintain a vision, embrace continuous learning, have strong EQ, especially when it comes to empathy and decisiveness, encourages innovation where new ideas are welcomed, and acts quickly and adjustis strategies, in response to challenge and change. These are imperative characteristics in order to be an adaptive leader.
