SML - Climate Smart Architecture

After our analysis of the area, we divided the plot into three possible design sites. In order to choose one of these sites we proceeded to score a Feasibility sheet. This sheet is composed of five different criterias that we thought would help us choose the best site.

The criterias are:

Water Run-off, Sun Radiation, Wind exposure, Connection, and Vegetation. The different sites were rated on a scale from one (worst) to three (best).

Finally, we chose site A since it was the area with the best score.

SITE ANALYSIS EXISTING TYPOLOGIES PROPOSED TYPOLOGIES SITE FEASIBILITY SITE CONCEPT PHYSICAL CONDITIONS • Mainly flat • Slight slope heading south • Swamp area north of the site • Sea is approximately 1.5 km away. • Primarily covered by grass BUILDINGS • 1-2 floor family-houses, Medium to Large size • Average height is 4-5 m • Maximum height 9-11m FUNCTIONAL CONDITIONS • No industrial activity in the close vicinity • Sports Centre close by • Four primary schools and a Health Centre • No Secondary School in the area • Commercial use within Bjärred’s Centrum area • New Office Park In Northern Borgeby MOVEMENT • Commuting from / to Malmö / Lund / Lomma • Closest bus stop is 400m away from the site • Direct bus connections to Malmö / Lund / Lomma • New close train station in 2026 • Shared space for walking / bicycle lanes

SML is a mixed typology development which blends seamlessly into Bjärred`s fabric by getting inspiration from the existing buildings in the area. Pursuing a higher density while keeping the suburban identity. S stands for Single Family Houses, M for Town Apartments, and L for Mix-Use Buildings.

SML is a visionary project basing its design on Climate Smart Architecture, following the principles of Active and Passive energy collection. Green & Blue solutions are also a key driver of the design from the start. Helping with solar accessibility and shading, wind protection, and stormwater management, while providing a healthy and biodiverse environment. Shifting away from present car dependency to sustainable mobility through public transport, cycling and other green solutions. Welcoming everyone, regardless of their stage in life.

SML’s Mobility Hub intends to be Bjärred’s new heart. Providing the area with new functions and solutions for social interaction and mobility today, paving the way to future innovations.
