Tis the Season to be Praising God By Earlean Johnson MS, BSW, PCMHT

This is the time of year many celebrate the birth of our Savior, however, some has fallen into tradition of Merry Xmas, taking the true meaning out of the season and surrounds it with “what are you getting me?” This month article is to encourage you to celebrate the birth of our Savior not only on December 25th, but every day. Without his birth, there wouldn’t have been a death. This article also is to encourage you to give to others young and old without expecting sometime in return from man but from our Heavenly father. As you search through your daily sale papers, you notice a decrease in many prices to gain business during what is known to many as the Christmas holidays. One day while looking in a news paper I notice some great sales on electrical drills, dolls, computers and etc. then today I asked myself, if I’m celebrating my Savior birth, why am I purchasing items he cannot use. So instead of lying that we are using the Christmas holiday to celebrate our Savior we must first be honest with ourselves because God hates a liar. There is nothing wrong with giving, especially when you did it from your heart and expect nothing in return, but notice if you buy someone a gift and start day dreaming of what that person is going to get you, if that person doesn’t buy you anything it takes the joy away. It’s time to learn how to say here; this is for you, God bless you and walk away with joy and love in your heart. My children recently asked me, “mommy what can we get you” those words were so touching however my response was momma have everything she need. When God is the head of your life, there’s nothing a store in the world can sale to top it. His presence alone deserves praise. For those of us that God allow to live up to December 25th should imagine a red ribbon on your forehead attached a card saying I give to you, LIFE from your Heavenly father. Several times in the New Testament Jesus requested of those he healed to tell no one of what he done, but when you start thinking about where God brought you from, how he got you out of situations that you couldn’t see a way out, how he promised you something and kept his promised, it will be like the song writer stated “there’s a praise on the inside, and I can’t keep to myself”. This season, focus on the goodness of Jesus, and all he has done for you and let out a praise. So now we know that we should follow the way of the world and take Christ out of Christmas because he is the true meaning of the season. Let’s take the time out to praise God first, even if you decide to participate in activities that man has created during this season of sharing gift, but one gift we must give is our attention and all to the Lord, for it was he that loved us so much that he gave his only begotten son. True love was born from a virgin and die on a cross so our soul wouldn’t be lost. May God bless you this season and every day to come, in Jesus name, Amen!
