Kid cudi announces his newablum K
id Cudi, whose Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager was No. 9 on our Best Albums of 2010 list, emerged yesterday after a bit of time off the grid with a lengthy series of Twitter posts detailing his moves for the coming year, including a rock’n’roll album, a free mixtape, and more acting.

The biggest news: The Cleveland MC, who has long toyed with rock sounds on his records, is planning to release a new album this summer called Wizard, on which he’ll “produce and play guitar on everything” and collaborate with his longtime producer Dot da Genius. “Wizard is a rock album, no raps, just singing. Brand new thing,” Cudi tweeted. Cudi also dabbled in the rock universe last summer, when he teamed up with Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglij and Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino on “All Summer,” a free download and video made available through Converse. On the hip-hop front, Cudi said he’s working on material with Kanye and Jay-Z, and plans to satiate fans of his rhymes with a free mixtape called A Man Named Scott (i.e. Cudi, whose real name is Scott Mescudi), also due this summer.
Further, Cudi said he’ll reprise his role on HBO’s How to Make it in America, the half-hour drama that follows a pack of hipsters in New York City and Brooklyn, and that the show will air this summer, after Entourage. In other small screen news, the long-touted, Shia LeBeouf-directed minimovie/music video for Mr. Rager’s “Maniac” will also see the light of day in 2011, Cudi promised. And, for added “aww” factor, the rapper announced he’s now the proud papa of an English bulldog named Fresh, who will begin making public appearances very soon.
