Interesting Exhibit On Early Printed Herbals To Be Held At
“Seeds of Knowledge: Early Modern Illustrated Herbals” highlights the collection of 15th to 17thcentury European printed herbals of Dr. Peter Goop (Liechtenstein). Herbals were highly illustrated, critical texts to doctors and lay healthcare providers that included both the folkloric and medicinal uses of plants. The text and illustrations were repeatedly refined as the medicinal benefits of a plant’s use were more clearly understood and the style of illustration tended
The Elverson Antiques Show will return this fall on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 28 and 29, at the Twin Valley High School. The school sits high on a hill, located at 4897 N. Twin Valley Road, Elverson, Pa. Proceeds from the antiques show benefit the Lacrosse Club, and members of the club serve as porters and help with the set-up of the show.
Within easy driving distance of Philadelphia, Delaware, New Jersey, and New York, Elverson is just off Exit 298 (Morgantown) of the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Geographically, it is located in Berks County, with Chester County only a few miles away. The show reflects the rich heritage of the early Pennsylvania settlers of southeastern Pennsylvania; however, over 40 dealers from the MidAtlantic, New England, and the Mid-West bring a balance of antiques from across the country to the show, with an emphasis on quality country antiques.
Showgoers can expect to find stoneware, redware, baskets, butter prints, woodenware, early lighting,
The Simple Goods Early Country and Primitive Goods Show will take place on Saturday, Nov. 4, at the Heritage Community Center on Route 62 in Berlin, Ohio, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. With over 50 wellknown dealers from across the country, every nook and cranny of the building will be full with country antiques. Even the lobby will host a dealer that will fill the space with great country cupboards. The

Mickey Mantle Still Smashing Records As His 1958 Yankee Pinstripes Sell For $4.68
Million Heritage’s Platinum Night Sports Auction Scores $34 Million
“No man in the history of baseball had as much power as Mickey Mantle,” Billy Martin famously said of his best friend and New York Yankees teammate. “No man.”
The Mick proved that yet again over the weekend at Heritage Auctions, where his Yankees home jersey worn throughout the 1958 season sold for $4.68 million to become, by far, the most valuable Mantle jersey ever sold at auction. This photomatched pinstriped gamer
saw significant action in ’58, when The Commerce Comet was coming off back-to-back MVP seasons and spent time starring on television’s Home Run Derby.
During Heritage’s Summer Platinum Night Sports Auction, it more than doubled the previous record for a Mantle gamer set at Heritage in 2022, when the jersey Mantle wore in his final game as Yankee on Sept. 28, 1968, sold for $2,190,000.

record-shattering jersey was a 1952 Topps Mantle graded Mint 9 by Sportscard Guaranty Corporation, which sold for $4.5 million, the most a sports card has sold for in 2023 and the fourth-highest price ever paid at auction for a sports card. This 1952 Mantle, like its higher-graded $12.6 million counterpart sold at Heritage in 2022, hails from the Topps Chewing Gum cardboard box that had been stashed in an attic for more than three decades until it landed in the hands of Alan “Mr. Mint” Rosen.
“There is no shortage of headlines from this year’s Summer Platinum Night Sports Auction, from the popularity of
signed vintage cards to the overwhelming demand for uniforms worn when history was made,” stated Chris Ivy, Heritage’s director of Sports Auctions. “Certainly, the Mantles demand worthy attention; for us, it’s always a thrill to be a part of history, too. But no one should ignore the intensely tenacious bidding throughout the weekend and the extraordinary prices realized as a result.”
The Aug. 19 and 20 sale realized $33,917,399, with more than 2,500 bidders worldwide participating. Those two Mantle items alone realized $9.18 million in an auction filled with record-breakers.
Chief among the recordsetting lots was one of the few known 1948 Leaf Jackie Robinson rookie cards signed by the man who broke baseball’s color barrier, which realized $588,000 during one of the auction’s numerous bidding wars, establishing it as the world’s most expensive vintage signed sports card ever sold at auction. The card is a work of art, the first postwar cardboard printed in color. Robinson added his autograph in bold, blue ink.

Another moonshot came with the $198,000 realized for the only known 1952 Berk Ross Mantle signed by the man on the front. Also exceeding its pre-auction estimate was the ticket stub from Robinson’s Brooklyn Dodgers’ April 15, 1947, debut. There exist but a handful, and the one sold, graded PSA Very Good 3, is the best known among the scant lot. Hence, its $300,000 sale price, exceeded pre-auction estimates. That includes the best known (and only known) 1950-51 Minneapolis Lakers season ticket in a PSA Good 2 from the Lakers’ third season in the NBA. The two-time defending champs’ season ticket realized an extraordinary $93,000, shattering all expectations.

Recommendations For Real-Time Pricing Data On Popular Collectibles
high-end collecting community, and I tend to agree, but, after all, if you are paying four figures for a comic book, do you really just consider yourself a collector? Go Collect has a free option as well as a paid tier to access more in-depth pricing information. Start with a free membership and determine if the perks of having a paid membership are worth it.
By Shawn Surmick
The internet has transformed the antiques and collectibles trade in a myriad of ways, but none have been greater than the rise of online auctions. The ability to buy and sell collectibles almost at the speed of light has created a need for up-to-date pricing information that reflects these changing market dynamics. Luckily, there is a plethora of free pricing information readily available for the average enthusiast to take advantage of. There are also sites that offer paid pricing information that cater to certain collectible markets or the entire antiques and collectibles trade. Some of these sites are better than others, and some I do not recommend at all. Listed below are my top five free and paid sites that I use to gain access to pricing information.
5 Go Collect (www.go collect.com): I’ll be the first to admit that I was quite skeptical when Go Collect first premiered. The website hosts pricing and in-depth market commentary on a plethora of collectibles, focusing most on graded pop culture based collectibles. If you collect graded comic books, magazines, video games, or concert posters, this site probably has what you are looking for. Critics will lament that Go Collect serves the
4 GPAnalysis (www.gp analysis.com): If you are a high-end comic book collector, GPAnalysis was the first price tracking website created to show real time pricing information for graded comic books. Today, it is one of many, with Go Collect being its closest competitor. I usually recommend GPAnalysis to hardcore high-profile graded comic book collectors and investors who strictly want data on comic books only. Since the site focuses only on graded comic books, its indepth valuations and portfolio management options make it a top choice for dealers as well. Be prepared to pay about $11 a month for this information.
3 PCGS Coin Facts (available as a free mobile app for iPhone and Android users): Want pricing information for graded coins as well as mintages and other historical data about your favorite U.S. coins? Want all of this information free of charge? If so, this app is a no-brainer. The app was created by PCGS, one of the leading third-party grading companies for coins. If you are a collector, investor, or dealer of graded coins, you owe it to yourself to check out this free app. It is truly amazing to me how many coin aficionados I personally know that did not know this app existed and is free of charge. The app contains a plethora of information and historical facts for all U.S. coins. It even
features grading definitions and commentary from some well-known numismatic experts.
2 Heritage Auctions (www.ha.com): Critics will lament that this list thus far focuses too much on pop culture collectibles and graded higher end collectibles, and they would be correct. That said, setting up an account on Heritage Auctions is free of charge, and by doing so, you will have access to an abundance of past auction history. Make no mistake, Heritage Auctions is a higher end collectibles site, but the back catalog of pricing history covers everything from fine art to historical manuscripts, art glass to coins and currency, and vintage toys to comic books. Omitting this amount of pricing data from this list would be a disservice to anyone operating in the antiques and collectibles trade. Make no mistake, there is a reason why Heritage Auctions is a market leader for antiques
and collectibles, and exploring their site will help you understand why. The site is also

Shotgun Built For And Gifted To Annie Oakley By London Gunsmith In 1888
Sells
At Morphy Auctions
Firearm Brings $258,000
A rare and important Charles Lancaster Gunsmiths (London) shotgun built for Annie Oakley in 1888 and used by the exhibition shooting legend during a significant period of her career sold for $258,000 at Morphy Auctions. It was a top highlight of Morphy’s Sept. 5, 6, and 7 Firearms and Militaria Auction, offered during the opening session. The buyer is a private collector who wishes to remain anonymous. The 12-bore doublebarreled hammerless model with 28-inch barrels was
gifted to Oakley by Charles Lancaster himself, who reportedly observed the petite sharpshooter at a gun club in England struggling with a shotgun that appeared too heavy for her. On that occasion, Lancaster offered Oakley advice on wingshooting and, at a later date, presented her with four shotguns: two 20-bores and two 12-bores. The 12bore in Morphy’s sale, Serial No. 05970, conveyed to its new owner with a 2012 letter from Charles Lancaster Gunmakers Ltd. documenting its history and signed by the company’s director,
Ronald Wharton.
“This was a very special Annie Oakley gun in that it was known to be one of her favorite and, therefore, most-used guns. It’s well known that she cared much more about the reliability and quality of her guns than their artistic appearance or factory engraving. It’s evident from the gun’s numerous old repairs that Annie preferred to have it refitted and maintained than to replace it with any of the numerous other guns she had received over the years,” commented Morphy

Kentucky’s Art Center Of The Bluegrass Opens GLASS National Art Museum
GLASS To Display And Celebrate Work Of American Artist Stephen Rolfe Powell
The Art Center of the Bluegrass recently announced an expansion project in celebration of its 20th anniversary: GLASS National Art Museum, which opens Friday, Nov. 3. The epicenter of Central Kentucky’s art scene, Art Center of the Bluegrass has long been a creative catalyst for the region, and the opening of GLASS will now serve as a sparkling new reason for artists and cultural travelers to visit Danville, Ky. As its name suggests, the museum will showcase the creativity of contemporary artists working in the compelling medium of glass, most notably providing a permanent home for the collection of American glass artist Stephen Rolfe Powell.
Glassblowing has come into the public consciousness in recent years thanks to Netflix’s fiery competition series “Blown Away.” The $3.7 million renovation and
expansion project more than doubles the footprint of the Art Center of the Bluegrass, enabling it to expand its reach and usher in the next 20 years of creativity and leadership within the arts sector of the Appalachian region. Key supporters of the Art Center’s initiatives, the City of Danville purchased the 12,600-squarefoot building next door to the original space; they’ll be leasing it to the Art Center for the next 100 years, breathing new life into a former community
building through the vibrancy of the arts.
“With the addition of GLASS National Art Museum, we are aspiring to become a national leader in the glass art field over the course of our next 20 years,” said Niki Kinkade, executive director of Art Center of the Bluegrass. “We have long taken great pride in our role at the intersection of history and future, providing a glimpse into the past and artistic inspiration for the
next generation of creators. GLASS will help us expand our reach, attracting visitors from across the country to Danville, Ky., with our captivating permanent collection, anchored by Stephen Rolfe Powell’s work and legacy.”
Prior to his death in 2019, artist Stephen Rolfe Powell was a longtime resident of the Danville community and professor at Centre College (just down the road from Art Center of the Bluegrass). In addition to creating a name for himself in the glass community through his visually stunning work, he founded and built the glassblowing program at Centre College in 1985, teaching aspiring glass artists from across the country for more than three decades. Powell’s personal work is held in the permanent collections of art museums around the world, including The Corning Museum of Glass (Corning,

Dr. Goop’s collection is one of the most extensive in private hands. Using the Morgan’s 10th-century manuscript of Dioscurides’ “De materia medica” (MS M.652) as a centerpiece, this Thaw Gallery exhibition will explore developments in the understanding of the healthful and healing properties of plants,
as Europe moved away from medicinal folklore towards an increased understanding of the natural world.

N.Y.), Chrysler Museum (Norfolk, Va.), the Boston Museum of Fine Arts (Boston, Mass.), and the Smithsonian American Art Museum (Washington, D.C.).
It was following a successful retrospective exhibition of Powell’s work in fall 2022 that the idea to create GLASS was born, not only to create a permanent home for Powell’s work to be enjoyed, but to educate the public about glassmaking.
“GLASS is a perfect way to honor and extend Stephen Rolfe Powell’s legacy,” according to Susie Silbert, contemporary art + design expert and former curator of Contemporary Glass at The Corning Museum of Glass, the world’s preeminent glass museum. “Powell is a beloved figure, known as much for his richly colored sculpture as for his inspirational teaching. Through his work at Centre College and the atmosphere of possibility he cultivated there, he made Danville, Ky., a beating heart of contemporary glass known across the nation for quality, integrity, and the excellence of its graduates. GLASS will allow
people to enjoy Powell’s incredible art and build on the work he started to ensure Danville is a must-visit destination for people interested in glass, in art, and in learning.”
Powell’s work will serve as an accessible lens through which to discover glass as an art form and generate conversations about creative expression. Museum visitors will be able to explore the relationship between light and glass in a captivating way: a dark gallery will display a selection of rotating works, starting with Powell’s Echoes series, under spotlights, casting color onto surfaces below.

by other prominent contemporary names in glass, including Dale Chihuly and Lino Tagliapietra. The Historic Hallway Gallery will be a permanent display highlighting key moments of the Studio Glass Movement, the pivotal period during which glassmakers moved out of production work in factories and started experimenting with glass as a medium for creative expression. The museum’s three gallery spaces will display work from both the permanent collection and rotating exhibitions from regional and national artists working in glass. Not unlike other small communities across the country such as Corning, N.Y.; Toledo, Ohio; and Tacoma, Wash., to name a few, Danville has aspirations to become known for its glass culture.
“Art Center of the Bluegrass is the artistic anchor of the Danville community,” stated J.H. Atkins, mayor of Danville. “Nearly 30,000 people come to Danville to experience the Art Center’s programming every year, and with the opening of GLASS, our community will become a bucket-list destination for glass artists, enthusiasts, scholars, and appreciators. Community art centers foster creativity, and GLASS is a powerful way to nod to the past, champion and educate current artists, and contribute to Danville’s ever-evolving identity as a destination for cultural tourism. GLASS will become the place to learn about this mesmerizing artform in this region of the country, putting Danville on the map in a major way.”
GLASS is the first in a series of enhancements that will be made to Art Center of the Bluegrass. In the coming months, other additions will include the following:
The Fern Curated Gifts, opening in October, will be a retail area where artists can sell their handcrafted works, and discerning patrons can collect unique pieces. Works available for purchase will range from jewelry to beautifully woven textiles. Fern will also carry house plants, a book nook, and a selection of eco-friendly items.
The Murrini Café, opening in fall/winter, will be a café where patrons can enjoy small plates, salads, charcuterie, sweets, wine, and specialty beverages, connecting in an art-forward environment. Afternoon Tea will be served each Tuesday. (Murrini is an Italian term for intricate, repeating designs created in glass canes, or rods, then cut into cross-sections).
A Glassblowing Studio is set to open in 2024 at Art Center of the Bluegrass to establish educational programming to share both the history of glass and its contemporary artistic applications.

Sports Collectors Daily noted over the weekend that it was “a record for one of the four Ruth cards in Goudey’s first major baseball card set.” It wasn’t the lone Ruth to call its shot over the weekend. A 1916 M101-4 The Sporting News Babe Ruth rookie card, graded PSA Very Good+ 3.5, realized $528,000, almost $100,000 higher than Heritage’s previous sale of the card in this grade.
Numerous centerpiece jerseys were in this auction’s starting line-up, including Tom Brady’s New England Patriots throwback photomatched to the Oct. 9, 2011, brawl with the New York Jets. It sold for $360,000. But perhaps more impressively, a 1989-90 Magic Johnson gameworn Los Angeles Lakers Jersey realized $312,000. It entered the auction with a $35,000+ estimate. In recent weeks, the jersey was photomatched to two images, which raised its estimate to $75,000+.
Another smash hit from Southern California came from Shohei Ohtani’s bat used to clobber his first career grand slam on May 10, 2022. This black ASICS bat, signed and dated, realized $168,000.
Not every record-setter was a six-figure item, though. Look no further than the sweatband that sold for
Chief among the record-setting lots was one of the few known 1948 Leaf Jackie Robinson rookie cards signed by the man who broke baseball’s color barrier, which realized $588,000, establishing it as the world’s most expensive vintage signed sports card ever sold at auction.

“Native Son: The Life And Art Of David Ellinger”
Landmark Exhibition Of 20th Century Pennsylvania German Folk Art Opens At Historic Trappe On Sept. 30
By Lisa Minardi
Historic Trappe in Trappe, Pa., is delighted to announce a significant retrospective exhibition featuring more than 100 works that promises to be a journey through time, shedding light on the life and work of a self-taught folk artist, David Ellinger (1913–2003). Curated by Lisa Minardi, executive director of Historic Trappe and a distinguished scholar of Pennsylvania German culture, “Native Son: The Life and Art of David Ellinger” stands as a testament to the enduring allure of Pennsylvania German folk art. A fully illustrated catalogue authored by Minardi and available exclusively at Historic Trappe will provide a comprehensive study of Ellinger’s life and work. The exhibition opens Saturday, Sept. 30, and will be on view through July 28, 2024.
The Ellinger Aesthetic
Ellinger left an indelible mark on the world of folk art. His humble beginnings in Trappe, Pa., saw him embark on a creative journey that would later become a bridge between generations and cultures. With no formal training, Ellinger’s innate talent and keen eye for detail propelled him into the world of art.
Ellinger’s journey as an artist accelerated in 1935 when employed by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) to contribute to the Index of American Design project. His artistic prowess rapidly gained recognition, leading to a series of solo exhibitions in prominent art hubs such as Philadelphia and New York during the mid-1940s. Ellinger’s canvases, depicting picturesque scenes of
Pennsylvania German barns, country auctions, Amish family farms, and other rustic vistas, played a pivotal role in kindling widespread fascination with Pennsylvania German culture during the latter half of the 20th century. His work resonated deeply with an audience captivated by folk art and nostalgic reverence for an agricultural past. Characterized by vibrant colors and adorned with Pennsylvania German motifs, including birds, tulips, and hearts, Ellinger’s prolific output, totaling over 6,000 paintings by his own estimation, continues to captivate collectors of folk
interviewing relatives and collectors with personal connections with the artist. Additionally, Minardi delved into Ellinger’s personal archives, unearthing precious details about his life and artistic vision.
A Chronicle of Masterpieces Contributions from nearly a dozen private collectors and members of the Ellinger family have enriched the exhibition, offering a comprehensive view of Ellinger’s artistic evolution, including his early childhood drawings and sketches. Additional exhibition highlights include botanical drawings from 1927, created when Ellinger was a mere 14 years old; impressionist landscapes and still lifes from the 1930s and 40s; the painting “River Brethren,” a stark modernist rendering of a local meetinghouse from 1935; and “The Quilt,” one of Ellinger’s earliest works featuring Amish subjects, dated 1943. Other work includes “Garden Path,” ca. 1945, one of Ellinger’s most extensive and detailed creations, “Flowers I Grew,” a still life painted shortly after Ellinger’s first home purchase in 1945; “Fertile Moon,” ca. 1950, a modernist

Name That Tune: Nutty Novelty Songs To Treasure
Smack Dab In The Middle: Design Trends Of The Mid-20th Century
By Donald-Brian Johnson
“I know a ditty nutty as a fruitcake, goofy as a goon and silly as a loon!
Some call it pretty, others call it crazy, but they all sing this tune. . .”
Drake/Hoffman/Livingston, 1943
What tune are they talking about? Well, there are plenty to choose from. Maybe it’s:
“Does Your Chewing Gum Lose Its Flavor On The Bedpost Over Night?”
Or. . .
“How Could Red Riding Hood Have Been So Very Good (And Still Kept the Wolf From the Door?)”
Or even. . .
“Yes! We Have No Bananas!” (Written in 1923 as a takeoff on the calls of fruit sellers, this one’s still a hit after 100 years.)
Whatever the answer (and
She’s a real red-hot mamma! “Hot Tamale Molly” by Herman Ruby, Gilbert Wells and Bud Cooper dates to 1925.
we’ll get to that in a bit), one thing’s for certain. That tune is part of a time-honored tradition: the “novelty” or “nonsense” song. The titles are silly. The melodies and lyrics are sillier. But just try and get these little earwigs out of your head. Once ensconced, they’re invincible.
Andrews Sisters, were particularly successful in churning out novelty after novelty, from the jiving “Scrub Me Mama With a Boogie Beat” to the hillbilly anthem, “I Didn’t Know the Gun Was Loaded.”
Other WWII novelties poked barbed fun at the enemy (“Der Fuehrer’s Face,” introduced by none other than Donald Duck). Some saluted war workers (“Rosie The Riveter,” complete with a riveting “brrr”). “The Machine Gun Bounce” even made use of pretty much unsingable vocal “ack-acks,” imitating the sound of a machine gun in action.
And on the subject of nonsense syllables....
“Mairzy Doats and Dozy Doats and liddle lamzy divey, a kiddley divey too— wouldn’t you?”
That’s the chorus of 1943’s “Mairzy Doats,” which follows the verse that opened this essay. But what does it mean? More to come....
As the 1950s and ’60s rolled on, so did the novelty tunes, which were now right at home on records and radio: “(How Much Is) That Doggie in the Window?”; “Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini”; “Monster Mash”; “The Purple People Eater.” With their colorful covers (and rock-bottom prices, still just a dollar or so per copy), novelty songs from the early 1900s, right
up through the “Weird Al” Yancovic parodies of today, continue to lift spirits (and ricochet around in your brain). Even when times get testy. . . even when the lyrics seem incomprehensible.
Speaking of which, here’s a translation:
“Mares eat oats and does eat oats and little lambs eat ivy, A kid’ll eat ivy too—
Wouldn’t you?”
Well, I don’t know. I’d have to be pretty doggone hungry.
Photo Associate: Hank Kuhlmann.
Photos by Donald-Brian Johnson.
Donald-Brian Johnson is the co-author of numerous Schiffer books on design and collectibles, including “Postwar Pop,”acollectionofhiscolumns. His favorite novelty tune is still that WWI chestnut, “Would You Rather Be a Colonel with an

Eagle on Your Shoulder or a Private with a Chicken On Your Knee?” Please address inquiries to:donaldbrian@msn.com.
This musical question by Ernest Brewer, Billy Rose and Marty Bloom began life in 1924 as “Does the Spearmint Lose its Flavor on the Bedpost Over Night?” In 1958, with “Spearmint” changed to “Chewing Gum,” the answer was still probably “yes.”
Novelty songs had their first heyday in the British music halls and on the American Vaudeville stages of the early 20th century. Leather-lunged showfolk like Al Jolson and Sophie Tucker belted out (no mics back then) rousers like “Where Did Robinson Crusoe Go (with Friday on Saturday Night?)” and “You’ve Got to See Mama Ev’ry Night (or You Can’t See Mama at All).” In those prereadily-available-recording days, crowds snatched up sheet music copies boasting colorful covers by the boxful, trying out the tunes on their home pianos. For those with no musical ear, player pianos did the trick: just pop on the roll and the player did all the work, while you did your best to warble along.
The appeal of novelty songs waxed and waned over the years, but tough times always seemed to bring them back to the forefront. During WWI, a popular Irving Berlin number had an optimistic miss viewing her soldier fella marching off to battle on the wrong foot, insisting “They Were All Out of Step But Jim.”

great for historical pricing data.
1 eBay (www.ebay.com): Looking for values for everyday items, collectibles, and more obscure antiques?
eBay has you covered without having to pay a membership fee for pricing data that may be out of date. Simply search for the item you are looking for and filter the results to sold and completed listings, and you will be treated to a listing of items that sold within the last 30 days. In my opinion, this is the best way to search for price listings of more common or average items without having to pay for the information.
In conclusion, I recommend few paid sites that offer pricing information unless I listed them above. In the event you have something truly unique and hard to find pricing data for, you should be reaching out to an appraiser and not attempting to find the information yourself online because in doing so, you may be leaving a lot of money on the table. This is especially true with one-of-a-kind items. Certain markets in the antiques and collectibles trade are more sophisticated than others. Valuing and authenticating art, antique furniture, certain types of glass, and historical artifacts, for the most part, should be done with the help of experts. That said, getting a copy of the latest yearly price guide devoted to antiques and collectibles can’t hurt either. Thanks for reading.

Simple Goods
show has experienced and knowledgeable dealers with a wide range of country antiques consisting of early American furniture in early paint and worn surface, Pilgrim-era antiques, and good country smalls. The show also offers USA-craftsman made primitives and holiday handmades, giving the November show a special holiday feel. The show maintains a Christmas-like atmosphere, and, according to many customers, it is their “kickoff to Christmas shopping.”
For 17 years, the Simple Goods show has kept the original intentions and traditions of the show alive, offering a gift to the first 50 in line, having an old wooden bowl at the entrance full of candy, bringing in the show’s favorite dealers (the majority returning every year), and keeping the feel and look of the show the same. Having fun has always been a big part of the show. Simple Goods provides a place for dealers and customers to gather and visit. The dealers have a good time setting up at the show, which reflects to the customers as they enter and shop.
The show is held at the Heritage Community Center, a
new building built for the area’s youth. Simple Goods considers itself fortunate to be able to use the building for the show. Berlin is a small town about 30 miles southeast of Canton in Ohio’s Amish country. The town, its hotels, and its restaurants are welcoming.
There is a dining area inside the show with Exclusively Yours Catering providing food. Admission to the show is $5 per person, and there is free parking surrounding the building. There is also another antiques show 12 miles away in Millersburg, Ohio, called Earlier Times, on the same weekend with a Friday, Nov. 3, afternoon opening at 4 p.m. Check out the many special holiday open houses at the country antiques shops in the region. With a total of close to 100 dealers at both shows and the open houses, Ohio is an antiques destination the first week of November.
The show has a presence on Facebook and Instagram. For additional information, such as a dealer list and floor plan, check out www.facebook.com/simplegoods or contact Christina Hummel at 570-651-5681.
