OUGD503: STUDIO BRIEF 1 - Individual Practice
1
Visual research, existing photography companies and individual’s branding. I looked towards a more modern timeless style of branding, for the digital age. Something which won’t look at all dated for decades, ideally.

I drew up some ideas for the concept. For definite, I know I’m going to create an A4 publication showcasing the photographs, as a promotional item. Business cards will be created, on a thick, premium stock. The logo taking up the majority of the front, with the essential contact details on the back. The logo has been narrowed down to two ideas, with variations. One of which, directly above this column of text is a more modernist design, simple, but fitting, whereas the other, to the left of the image above, uses the A letter form as a tripod, through typographic imagery.

Throughout all three of these designs, you can see an illustration of a camera. It’s a tracing on a canon 600D, the camera, I believe, which is used in OAC Photography. I thought it would be a nice, personal touch to the branding rather than a stock camera, or a vintage camera. The top two variants use the A as a tripod, typographic imagery, a touch of playfulness in the logo. The logo on the top left is fairly basic. However, to the right of that, I’ve added the view finder around it, adding another tie in to photography. I also placed a stroke in between the camera and the ‘tripod’, so represent the camera shoe. The final logo, to the left, is simple, clean and elegant. It uses three icons above the text, taken directly from canon cameras, the portrait icon, to represent the majority of the work OAC Photography do, and the mountains, to represent landscapel, so they photographer is not tied towards one single type of photography.

I’m yet to design the publication, as it all depends on the images which it will contain; we’ll talk about that. Please select which logo you would like to use, or if you think any improvements can be made, I’d love to work with you to get the logo you desire.
