Fedrigoni’s previous calendars and other promotional items. They’re all breaking the mount and creating elegant 3D items from the 2D, using paper folding and layering techniques. To stand a chance of being notice, I think it would be sensible to adpot this idea, and use it within my own design work, for this brief.

I looked at existing calendars, ones which work with seasons and months, wall and desk calendars. I also looked at how other paper companies have used layering and die cutting in their stocks to allow the user to see a sample of the next stock through the paper.

I designed four card styles, one for each season, using a distinct symbol for each seaon, making it easy for the user to identify the season they’re in.

I plan to create a stack of 365 dates, with date printed at the bottom, month, day, year and so on, and have a symbol which runs consistantly throughout a season, each season has it’s own symbol and it’s own coloured paper. The symbol will be cut through each sheet, hopefully in eactly the same place each time, allowing you to see through to the next month, on the calendar.

As the stock will determine the colour of the background, I need to decide the colour for the date and the Fedrigoni logo. I’ve chosen grey (for now) as it is a neutral colour.
