OUGD505: STUDIO BRIEF 1 - Design Production 2 // An Exhibition of Aston Martin

I first looked into the current and previous lines of cars Aston Martin Lagonda has produced, as after all, Aston is a car company. It’s amazing to see the vast range of cars which they have produced over the past 101 years they’ve

been in business. The top set of cars the out of production cars, and the set to the right are the cars currently in production. You’ll notice that they’re updated or successors to previous models.

I began by looking into the history of Aston, their origins, the first production cars, the history of the logo, the world famous Aston Martin DB5, as seen in the bond franchise. Their feats as Aston Martin Racing, where OUGD505: STUDIO BRIEF 1 - Design Production 2 // An Exhibition of Aston Martin

they released track versions of production road cars. All the way to their 100th Anniversary in 2013. Where they had their centenary celebration, creating a special concept car, and hosting various Aston themed events. 3

In 2013, Aston Martin Lagonda celebrated 100 years of business. As part of this celebration, they launched the centenary campagin. They created the concept car, the CC100, as pictured above. Modeled similarly OUGD505: STUDIO BRIEF 1 - Design Production 2 // An Exhibition of Aston Martin

to the DB1, which won Le Mans in 1959. Branded with Aston’s centenary logo, a spiralled dot pattern, with a dot for each year, 100. Aston also performed several ‘parades’ at car festivials around the UK in 2013, such as Car Fest. 4

I researched into Aston’s design process. I through the initial sketches looked quite interesting. The majority of the designs look very futuristic, very artistic. The cars which Aston manufacture do look similar to these sketches, OUGD505: STUDIO BRIEF 1 - Design Production 2 // An Exhibition of Aston Martin

however, they don’t look exactly the same. They look more realistic, in a sense, a toned down version of the cars which have been proposed in these concepts.

After looking at Aston’s artistic design process, I began to look at Aston Martins as art. Aston has a large gallery on their website, and I was able to find a photographer who created abstract scenes and photographs them, as seen to OUGD505: STUDIO BRIEF 1 - Design Production 2 // An Exhibition of Aston Martin

the right, with the Stormtroopers, Vader and a Wookie. Some of the art pieces are quite crudely done, but all work as an image, when you stand back, where some focus on details you’d find in or on an Aston. 6
