Coach Lou Bernardi of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy was recently honored with the gold-level Presidential Volunteer Service Award, recognizing his more than 500 hours of service with Valor Sports volunteering at free baseball clinics and other events.

Bernardi commented to Anton Media Group on his volunteer work: “It varied from toy drives, food drives, clothing drives and volunteering at events. But mainly in providing free clinics and training for amateur players. The game of baseball has given me so much that I owe it to the next generation of players to give back to them and make sure they have the same opportunities I had growing up.”
