WELCOME

WE ARE DELIGHTED TO WELCOME YOU TO THE SECOND EDITION OF SPRING MASTERS NEW YORK. Originally founded by the Art and Antique Dealers League of America as the Spring Show NYC for its dealer members, the event was significantly restructured in 2014 in response to growing demand for an international, high-quality art and design fair on the New York spring calendar.

Michael Plummer Director Spring Masters New York

It has been an exciting transformation: the fair has expanded to 60 exhibitors, many of them from the UK and Europe. The new design by architect Rafael Viùoly has created the boldest change to the art fair plan at the Park Avenue Armory in over thirty years, promising a new experience for exhibitors and visitors alike. For this second edition, we have brought together an eclectic mix of leading art and design dealers, from antiquity through the 21st century, to fulfill our mandate of presenting contemporary and traditional art and design in dialogue with on another. We are also pleased to offer a specially designed and curated booth by Jamie Drake and Drake Design Associates. Jamie and his team have created a dedicated living space that beautifully expresses in action the theme of the fair, Juxtapositions—Collecting Across Centuries. Lastly, as with all great fairs, Spring Masters New York is fully vetted. The vetting committee is composed of recognized experts with decades of experience in their respective fields, ensuring that collectors can buy with confidence. We are grateful to the members of the committee and most especially its Chairman, Alasdair Nichol, for generously sharing such expertise and time.

VETTING

FOR FINE ART & DESIGN FAIRS, vetting has long been established as a means to ensure that collectors can proceed with confidence in the knowledge that what they are buying is accurately and fairly described. It is also a form of quality control which guarantees that the works on exhibition are of a standard commensurate with their inclusion at an important fair. Given the diversity of period, origin and category of the works at Spring Masters, it was essential to assemble a Vetting Committee of the highest caliber with each of the experts having extensive experience within their chosen field of specialization. It gives me pleasure to thank all of the members of the Spring Masters Vetting Committee for the generous contribution of their time and talent thus ensuring the integrity of the works for sale as well as that of the fair itself. Alasdair Nichol Chairman, Spring Masters Vetting Committee

PROJECT ART | BOOTH D12B

PROJECT ART’S PURPOSE IS TO CHANGE THE WAY THE WORLD VALUES ARTS EDUCATION and unleash the power of creativity in every child. We address the arts education crisis for youth in a highly innovative, collaborative and cost-effective way. Starting in underserved communities of NYC, with the ultimate goal of a national roll-out, ProjectArt uses a unique public library-partnership model to bring arts access directly to youth, providing them with a channel to express their artistic visions, set goals and display their art in celebrated art galleries, all at no cost to the students. Today, in the U.S. over 4 million children lack access to arts education. Awareness is key to creating support for access to arts education, which is why ProjectArt is thrilled to be partnering with Spring Masters New York and Arts’ Night Out. Spring Masters and Arts’ Night Out provide the perfect forum to connect with supporters who know, as we do, that access to arts is essential to life.

JUXTAPOSITIONS—COLLECTING ACROSS CENTURIES BOOTH E2

“UNIQUE AND DRAMATIC INTERIORS ARE MY SIGNATURE. The vision for my space at Spring Masters New York encompasses a strong, dramatic backdrop that embraces and holds the diverse selection of fine and decorative arts that will be curated within. I’m in love with mutable surfaces, and the sultry, glistening walls will be inspired by the way a slick of oil, or a hummingbird’s feathers shimmer and change hue as the light hits it. My approach to design often employs a variety of pieces that span time and culture in a single room. These juxtapositions are lively and provocative, but I always search for commonalities that cultivate a relationship among the pieces. Fairgoers will see an exquisite harmony with my composition of items, even while grouping a selection of great diversity.” Jamie Drake Drake Design Associates

A3 MORETTI FINE ART Italian old master paintings Situated at the heart of Florence, between Palazzo Strozzi and Santa Maria Novella, the Galleria Moretti was open to the public, and to major public and private collectors, on September 1999 with the inauguration of the exhibition “From Bernardo Daddi to Giorgio Vasari” and immediately distinguished itself by its specialization in Italian, and especially Tuscan, old masters. E7 WILLIAM SIEGAL GALLERY William Siegal Gallery exhibits a distinguished collection of antiquities and textiles alongside contemporary art. The expansive Railyard space provides a rare opportunity to appreciate art that spans over 5,000 years, while inspiring a new collecting sensibility: “ancient contemporary” – the old is new, the new is old, and the dialogue between them is surprising and profound.
