Rani Ki Vav is a stepwell located in Patan, Gujarat. It is called the Queen of step-wells because of excellent craftsmanship, symbolisms, grandeur of structure built by Rani Udayamati in the memory of her husband. Conclusion Rani Udayamati wanted to create a grand structure in her husbands memory and having realised importance of water she decide to create a structure which makes water holy so that it's importance is retained binded with her Husband's memory. FORM FOLLOWS SANCTITY. The Rani ki Vav resembles structure of temple where the well is the Inner most sanctum, indicating it's sacredness, as that of a worshiping subject. As the person moves through the linear path, and experiences the holy vibe which the mythological stories in sculptures express, due to which the user gradually starts considering water in the well as the most sacred entity of the space, which was the intention behind the form of Rani ki Vav.
In the following pages, we've analyzed the structure Sangath, which is a working space designed by B.V. Doshi. His unique style consisting of reused materials, vertical division of spaces, and wide use of passive design strategies and nature friendly working environment.
