RETHINKING THE AMPHITHEATRE AREA
know the BACKDROP It’s been almost a year since we clicked pictures against those dazzling yellow walls, sat around the tree with cups of coffee in hand while discussing our day, and unfolding new dramas. So long since we stood in long queues to buy stationary while chattering about the assignments due next class and whiling away our time playing with the cats We are just going to come out and say it. We miss Academy! In Academy’s long history of 64 blissful years, the ever-cherished amphitheater has grown to undeniably become so much more than a space in our campus. Enthralled especially on days of class pictures and cultural celebrations every year, this space has become a symbol of Academy’s culture. The banyan tree too, has been a lot more than just a tree. The tree has not only witnessed the birth of Academy, but also stood tall with vigour and magnanimity as Academy flourished. With its colossal yet warming presence, it has been alive and deep-rooted in Academy’s soil for years. The tree invigorated the space so much, that along with Rachana Sansad’s logo it has etched itself in all our hearts.
the DESIGN CHALLENGE To our dismay, the tree no longer survives in its original glory! But the collective understanding now presents us with the most unique of questions; where do we go from here? Do we rebuild the space to its old glory? Can we step up and search for a new representation of our shared experience? What will this representation look, feel, and act like? How can it serve to continue and enhance this shared experience? This is your challenge. Design your vision of Academy’s renewed Amphitheatre. The amphitheatre is a spot that blends our diversities to bring us all together under one inclusive colossal canopy of the Banyan tree. This makes us wonder what role does diversity and inclusion play in the design world, and how does your experience at Academy compliment your design approach. This competition proposes the generation of architectural ideas for outdoor activities for our institution while retaining the original functionality of the space. Interaction and Activity in a natural environment is the key focus of the competition. As we eagerly buckle to gather together after almost a year, you are expected to envision an intervention that brings us Academites closer. An intervention that not only celebrates this glorious history of Academy, but also marks the beginning of a new era.
INTERVENTION AREA The space identified as the site for intervention is the Amphitheatre area of our college, Rachana Sansad’s Academy of Architecture, Prabhadevi, Mumbai.

ELIGIBILITY The following individuals can participate ●
All the students currently studying in Rachana Sansad’s Academy of Architecture. Teaming up vertically is encouraged !

The graduated batches of 2019 and 2020

Each team can have a maximum of 3 members. Individual entries would be accepted as well.

No entry fees, direct registration.
After registration , every team will receive a Unique Identification Code which must be mentioned on the upper right hand corner of each sheet during submission.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES 1.
Three 210mm X 210mm sheets must be submitted in a combined PDF format (150 DPI Resolution), file size not exceeding 10 MB

All 3 sheets as separate JPEG files. (Each JPEG not more than 4mb)
