APIBA’s 45 th ANNIVERSARY “Early on Monday evening on March 29th 1971, a handful of teachers gathered at the offices of the English Language Journal owned by Prof. Aldo Blanco in the heart of the Capital, to discuss the formation of an Association of teachers of English of Buenos Aires.” “APIBA’s objectives, as stated in its bylaws written in 1971, have always been to encourage the professional development of Teachers of English, to develop links between Argentine English teachers and educational and cultural institutions, both Argentine and international, promoting the dissemination of the English language and culture and the improvement of its teaching, to promote and develop the solidarity and mutual co-operation of its members, to improve teachers’ professional development, assisting in the development of teacher-training curricula and courses.” Excerpts from Day, R.A. (2013). Forty Years of Teaching English: APIBA 1971-2011. A History of the Asociación de Profesores de Inglés de Buenos Aires. Buenos Aires: APIBA. ISBN: 978-987-20307-2-8.

We are extremely proud to be celebrating our 45th Anniversary this year, as active and enthusiastic as ever, with one clear aim ahead: to work hard to become the collective professional voice of our members in the City of Buenos Aires as well as in the Greater Buenos Aires area and the rest of the province, establishing professional development hubs where there are no local associations.

ABSTRACTS & BIOATA 09.00 - 10.15 | PRESENTATION

Fabiana Parano Tell it Again! Storytelling Tools in the EFL Classroom Stories are welcome in any foreign language learning situation and can be told to enhance any experience. Beyond specific purposes, stories are simply told for the sake of including their magic in the classroom, for the sake of sharing and enjoying the language through the storyline. Above all, they are incredibly powerful to create bonds and to connect with others. Storytelling is a folk art, a form of expression that belongs to all of us, as members of a community. So telling tales is something that reaches any human being. In this workshop we will work on storytelling techniques and strategies to tell tales in EFL to any age group or level. We are going to explore the impact of non-verbal referents through the body language of the storyteller and the physicality of the characters. We will work on ways to interact with audience and still, keep the essence of the story being told. Narrative games will also be played.

ABSTRACTS & BIODATA 10.45 - 12.15 | PRESENTATION

Gustavo González Opening the Door to the 21st Century Classroom The 21st century classroom is a land worth exploring. Behind that closed door, different possibilities await: “The Promised Land”, “Never Ever Land”, “Fantasy Land” or “La La Land.” Let’s open that door to discover what our students need and become explorers of a world unveiling to us, providing us with digital technologies that can be great tools to include in our classes. We, teachers, can make the new millennium classroom paradise or hell. The choice is ours!
