Freddy Mercury Farrokh Bulsara, (Freddy Mercury) was born in Stone Town in Zanzibar on 5th September 1946.He was a British musician: he performed, composed and wrote songs. He became the lead vocalist of the well known band Queen. In 1954 when Mercury was eight, he was sent to study at St. Peter's School, a boarding school for boys in India. At school, he formed a popular school band, called The Hectics, for which he played the piano. Freddy moved to Middlesex, England and enrolled at Isleworth Polytechnic in West London where he studied art. In April 1970, Mercury joined with guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor and formed the band "Queen". He also sold second-hand clothes in the Kensington Market in London and worked at Heathrow Airport. Most of his albums and performances were great hits and sold millions. He gave concerts all over the world and sang with Montserrat Caballe for the Olympic Games held in Barcelona in 1992. Mercury died on 24 November 1991 at the age of 45. He had suffered from AIDS four years before.Â
