You told us that you want the buses to run throughout the school summer holidays, so you can take tamariki to the beach, and teenagers don’t need a lift
You also told us that you’d like the service to go to different beaches this year
We’ve listened to your feedback, and we’re excited to announce our new summer beach bus routes, to Waipū Cove (via Ruakākā) and Matapouri (via Ngunguru)!
The buses will run on Friday and Saturday during the summer season.

Our BusLink team were out and about engaging with residents in November and December, seeking views on your local public bus service, the Bream Bay Link
The Bream Bay Link is a local BusLink service, operated by Leabourn Passenger Service and funded by NRC. It runs every Thursday, leaving Kaiwaka at 9am and calling at Mangawhai, Langs Beach, Waipū Cove and Ruakākā before arriving in Whangārei It returns from Whangārei at 3pm.
The survey asked questions about the current service and whether to extend it to One Tree Point and Maungaturoto It closed on 10 December 2024, and we announced the lucky winners of our Prize Draw that week, with four people taking home a $50 Prezzy Card, just in time for Christmas!
From Wednesday 8 January, CityLink and BusLink bus services, including the Bream Bay Link, will be temporarily relocated to Vine Street
The existing bus hub buildings will be demolished and replaced with new public toilets, staff facilities, ticketing office and covered seating area A new pedestrian link between Rose and Vine Street will provide a safer connection into the city centre Expected duration of the works is c 7 months
The upgrade is funded by Waka Kotahi, with the works carried out by Whangārei District Council, working with Northland Regional Council

Earlier this year, Marsden Point made history as Whangārei’s first cruise ship, the M.S. Regatta, docked at Northport This milestone marked the beginning of an exciting chapter for the Bream Bay region, opening new opportunities for tourism and showcasing Northland’s rich cultural and natural offerings
