Now it’swell and truly the time for the woman of the house to want to create afeminine space in which to escape. With families being cooped up during Covid the last couple of years have led many to turntheir thoughts to home and garden renovation. The She Shed concept is just an extension of wanting to ring the changes and have aprivate escape to the backyard. The good thing about aShe Shed is that it’s
likely to be cheaper than an overseas family holiday.Theycan be ridiculously simple from say,ade-cluttered garden shed to acustombuilt shed or cabin.
The space could be used as aplace to relax with alounge and some books, possibly curtains to add atouch of cosiness. Other uses could be an art studio, an office, asewing or crafts room Thenitcould be awritingden ora yoga studiothereisnoend of uses for aShe Shed.
Kit set sheds and cabins arewidely available in New Zealand and they aresurprisingly reasonably priced. Check council regulations to see if building consent is needed. Then thereare plenty ofready- made sheds in all manner of materials available. Your shedcan be as plain or as fancy as you desire.
Your shed will need aroof, walls and probably a door but insulation would be optional and the style and size of windows and the door could vary.Your shed will need asolid foundation built by people who know what they’redoing.
Youmight also need power installing, if aiming for comfort, and then give some thought to interior decoration. Your shed might need painting if it’snot natural timber so there’san opportunityfor it to blend into the surroundings or make astatement.
The use to which the shed will be put will dictate the style of the interior.A yoga studio would call for simplicity and space while aday room might call for asofa, comfy chair and aday bed. Whatever the purpose your personal shed should reflect who you areand what you like.

Late winter is the best time to plant roses and nurseries will have plenty of stock to choose from. Meanwhile prune established roses.
Autumn and winter is agood time to plant new deciduous fruit trees, pears, apples, nectarines, peaches and plums, and prune vines like kiwifruit and raspberries. Strawberries can be planted in winter and should yield morecrops as aresult.
