RobinsonAsphalts(Robinsons)is extremelyproudtoberecognised fortherecentlycompleted TownBasinBusFacilitiesProject, bwinningtheHirepoolConstruction Projectsover$2MAwardatthe2024 CCNZNorthlandConstructionawards. Thiswasthelargestprojectcategory, upagainstsomeimpressiveprojects fromacrosstheregion.Theprojectwas alsoselectedastherunner-upforthe InnovationAward,selectedfromall projectsenteredintheawards.Thisyear marksRobinsons’seventhconsecutive yearofaward-winningprojectsatthe CCNZNorthlandAwards.

theadjoiningplaygroundandHātea LoopWalkwaywithsignificanthardand softlandscaping.Thiswasallcompleted onarestrictedsitesurroundedonall sidesbypedestrianwalkways,bordering afour-laneroundaboutandaffecting dozensofstakeholdersandbusinesses, andthousandsofpedestriansdaily.
Robinsonsisproudtohavedelivered thisprojectontimeandunderbudget throughoutthewettestconstruction seasoninmemory.
Robinsonswouldliketothankour highlydedicatedandskilledteamfor theirhardworkdeliveringtheproject, alongwithourclientWhangāreiDistrict Council,oursubcontractorsand suppliers,andallthelocalbusinesses andthegeneralpublicfortheirsupport andpatienceduringconstruction.The projectwasasignificantcollaborative effortfromeveryoneinvolved,Robinsons usedover20localsubcontractorsand dozensoflocalsuppliersthroughout construction.
Whileitwas build,it’sbeenfantastictoseeitso wellusedsinceitopened.Thespace createsanotherlinkinthechainforthe TownBasinandprovidesnewfacilities, upgradedparking,andbusfacilities forevents,notonlyforlocalsbutalso helpingWhangārei’sgrowingreputation asavisitordestination.
TheprojectcontinuesRobinsons’proud legacyofworkintheTownBasinarea, intheearly90’sRobinsonsdelivered thebulkoftheTownBasinlandscape worksandtimberboardwalks.Thiswas afterfirstdemolishingtheoldwaterfront buildings,includingtheoldArmyHall whereTheQuayrestaurantisnow situated.InrecentyearsRobinsonsalso completedPūtahiPark,Hundertwasser
TownBasinPlayground,BasculeCarpark andseveralotherprojectsalongthe HāteaRiver,inadditionthenewTown BasinBusFacilities. Firstestablishedin1972,Robinsonsisa third-generationlocallyownedbusiness. Constructionbeganin2017andthe pathcurrentlyspansover8kmlong. WearenowcompletingStage5A and5Bsimultaneously,managedas twoseparateprojects,bothduetobe completednextmonth.

KamoStage5BKamoVillage isthe constructionofthesharedpathfrom therailwayunderpasstoFisherTerrace andthroughtoStationRoad.Ventiaare completingallmajorelementsincluding earthworks,retainingwalls,drainage andraisedplatforms.Thisprojectispart fundedbytheWakaKotahi“Transport Choices”programwhichsupports projectsthatpromoteenvironmentally friendlytravel.Thissharedpathiswidely usedbythecommunityandVentiaare proudtobeinvolved.

Theremarkableachievementofthe PokapuBridgeProject,amonumental endeavourthatsawthesuccessful constructionofacutting-edge3-span 60-meterbridge.Thisinnovative structure,toweringhigherand significantlywiderthanitspredecessor, standsasabeaconofresilienceand progress.Designedtocombatthe recurringflooding devastationinthe MoerewaandOtiriasettlements,the bridgehasnotonlyfulfilleditspurpose buthasdonesowithexceptional efficiency.Completedwithina remarkable130-dayconstructionperiod, underbudget,andwithoutanycost overruns,thisprojecthastransformed thelandscapeandbrought immeasurablejoyandrelieftothelocal community.

Theprojectwastoprovidemuch neededpublicaccessandparking toanexistingboatramp,jettyand floatingpontoonatWindsorLanding (nowknownasRangitoto)offKerikeri InletRoadapproximatelyeight kilometresfromKerikeritownship.Works includedthewideningofa90-meter sectiononInletRoad,constructionof 180metresofanewsealedaccess road,reclamationoftidalarea,new stormwatermanagementsystemsand constructionofcarandboattrailer carpark. Theprojectwaslocatedwithin anareaofcouncilreserveandrequired acausewayandreclamationwithinthe CoastalMarineareatobeconstructed foraccess.

Theprojectutilisedfreeissue(by FNDC)bridgebeamsthathadbeen constructedforapreviousprojectthat hadnotproceeded,meaningthese elementsweredivertedfromwasteand deliveredsignificantsavingstoFNDC.
Thesitewasbasedinaremotelocation intheFarNorthDistrict,thismeant thesiteteamwerelivingawayfrom homewhilsttheworkswerecompleted toensurewecouldachievefulldays workingonsitetoensuretheproject wasexecutedefficiently.

This year marks 10 years for Earthworx, over this time they have been involved in an array of projects ranging from residential subdivisions, coastal erosion protection, roading safety improvements, retaining and slip repair stabilization and many other diverse projects Through this time Earthworx’ dedication to quality assurance and attention to detail have earned them multiple awards with both the CCNZ Northland Awards and Northland Business Awards
Earthworx supports the local community in many ways from assisting in the ground works for the new Bream Bay Recreation Centre, donating bark and time to upgrade the Ruakaka Playcentre playground to offering sponsorship in various ways For the last two years they have supported the ‘Rugby for Life’ and the ’WBHS Clay Target Shooting Team’ as well as various other sporting teams/ individuals
Over this time the team has also grown in size and range of diversity With their second cadet due to graduate with their diploma in civil engineering at the end of this year along with inhouse surveyors and drainlayers Earthworx have a very versatile team that can be constructed in many ways to produce quality and efficiency in projects for their clients
