Primary and secondary schools / youth
from Welcome to Whanganui 2022
by NZME.
Parents and caregivers are welcome to visit schools and meet with the principal and other staff prior to enrolling their child. Most schools have a brochure/ prospectus that provides information about the school and what it offers. The Ministry of Education website at www.education.govt.nz provides a searchable school database and includes information about the school’s profile and contact details, student population, student engagement and finances. Some schools have an enrolment zone where only children living in the zone can attend.

Whanganui District Council has a Youth Council that represents the community’s young people and provides an opportunity for them to contribute to the council’s decision-making.
