Rubbishbagsneed to have apre-paid stickerattached(availablefrom your localdairy,supermarketsanda variety ofother stores).

Rubbishis collectedbetween 7.00am and4.30pm.Rubbishbagsthatdo notmeetthe conditionsoutlined onthe stickerwillnotbe collected.

Bagsmustbeplacedonthe kerbside or collectionpoint–whicheveris correct for yourarea–nolaterthan 7.00amonthedayof collection.

For$6per weekEasyEarthsupplies householdswitha10-litrebin for food wastethatis collected weeklyfrom thehome.

Householdsalsohave theoptionof droppingoff food wasteatanEasy Earth collectionpoint for$3.50per drop-off.

Businessesandorganisationscan choose forEasyEarth to collect just food waste (startingfrom$9 per week)orboth food waste and recycling (startingfrom$15per week).

TheWhanganui Resource Recovery Centre(next to thefire stationin MariaPlaceExtension)isaonestopshop for resource recoveryand wasteminimisationintheWhanganui district.Itprovidesa 24/7/365 facility fordroppingoffglass,plastics1, 2and5,cans,clothing,paperand cardboard.

Duringnormalbusinesshours customerscanalsobringintyres, wasteoil,e-waste, domesticbatteries, fluorescenttubes,ecobulbs,car seats,whitewareandgreen waste. Therearecharges forthese extra items.

Researchshows witha kerbside recyclingservice, morepeople get involvedbecauseit’s easier.Itwill alsomean we cansignificantly reduce theamountWhanganuiissending to landfill.

Keeping foodscrapsoutoflandfill reducesgreenhousegaseswhich fitswithourclimatechange commitments.

Three recyclingcrateswillbe provided forthe kerbside recycling service to collectpaper,cardboard, plastics1,2and5,tins,glassbottles andjars.A foodscrapsbinand kitchencaddy along with recyclable binlinerswillbeprovidedaspartof the foodscrapsservice.

TheWhEBisopenfivedays a week (Monday to Fridayfrom10.00am to 4.00pm).

Used toothbrushes(manualonly)and toothpaste tubescanbedroppedinto the Colgate OralCareBrigadebin outsidetheWhEB.If you’reinterested inimproving yourgarden, youcan buy worm farms,tiger wormsand worm weesfromtheWhEB.

If you’veneverbeforevisitedthe WhEB,doask fora tour.Allage groupsarecatered for.

Re-UseAcademy(RUA)

Awide varietyofitemscanbe droppedoffatthe Re-Use Academy forothers to reuseor repurpose forartsandcraftsoreducational projects.

Allitemscanbe collectedfromthe Re-Use Academy foradonation. Pleasegivegenerously, to enable environmentalprojects to be undertakeninthe community.

GreenBikes

GreenBikes(PahikaraMatomato) operatesoutofpremisesbehind theWhEBofficeonFridays from 10.00am to 4.00pm.Oldbikesand parts,includingtyres,canbedropped offanytime. These are recycledinto roadworthybikes by asmallgroupof volunteers. Thebikesaresold fora nominalprice to children,pensioners andbeneficiaries. TheGreenBikes volunteersalso repairbikes forthose onlowincomes.

TheWhanganui Resource Recovery Centre’seducation roomiscalled theHarakeke Room.Practical sustainability coursesareofferedon demand.Schoolholiday repurposing workshopsareheld forchildrenwith theircaregivers

EcoLibrary

Foraone-off$5subscription, you canborrow booksandmagazines for amonthfromtheWhEB’s extensive sustainabilitylibrary.

Volunteers

Volunteersareneeded for various on-siteprojectsas wellastheFruit TreesinSchoolsandFruit Treesinthe Communityinitiatives. Theseprovide anopportunity to workalongside experienced volunteersandlearn moreaboutsustainability. Trainingis given.
