Publisher’s Introduction I was called into ministry in 1979, while under the Leadership of Elder Lassiter Basket, Pastor of Tree of Life Bible Church, Inc., which is located in Baltimore, Md. Elder Basket loved ministry his anointing flowed as he preached and taught God’s Word. He believed in “on the spot training”. What do I mean, by “on the spot training” I would go to church on Sunday morning excited about the move of God. While devotion was going forth he would put his finger up and call me to the pulpit. He would say, “I want you to bring the message this morning”. Well, I don’t have to tell you the look on my face and he’d smile and say, “That’s all I wanted”. Then he’d go right back into the service as if nothing happened. He taught me how to trust God in ministry. I remember those times when we were on our way to visit another church. He would do the same thing there. I would go home and pray. “Now God, you got to do something about the Pastor”. It was like God was saying back to me “I am, I’m getting you ready”. That kind of teaching paid off for me. I learned a lot about ministry. Then the time came for me to Pastor New Hope Temple of Praise, Inc. that’s when I decided to develop a Minister’s Training Class. I enjoy teaching and preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ, I get joy out of seeing people saved and delivered by the Power of God. It brings me great joy to know that I have enhanced someone’s understanding concerning the Word of God. I believe it’s time for the Body of Christ to develop a Spirit of Excellence concerning the things of God. You just can’t give young Ministers a Bible and hope they turn out okay. We have to train them and equip them to go forth. I believe Ministers are like children; if you don’t train them right, when you take them out and they act up, it’s a reflection on the Leadership or Pastor of the church. Don’t be ashamed of your children. “Train them.”

Preface I believe this is the Minister’s training guide you have been waiting for. This is not just another how-to Manual. This book has been prepared especially with you in mind. I know many times we are asked to do things in ministry, and sometimes we just don’t know how. This book is basic and user friendly. These nuggets have been formulated through the Holy Spirit to assist you and enhance your ministry. It is my intent to make this manual extensive, yet Powerful enough to get you started and become successful in Kingdom Ministry. It’s full of experiences and things which will prepare you to go forward in your ministry. Share this book with your Pastor and Leadership. I am a firm believer in keeping your Pastors informed. There are certain areas in ministry where your Pastor or organization will better be able to equip you. It’s good to be ecumenical; you never know what doors God will open for you. I feel this teaching has come from the heart of God. As you minister to the souls of people, you want to go forth in Excellence. Preaching is Powerful, it is your opportunity to empower people with what God has released in your life. You can’t stumble and fumble over the Word. His saving grace is present and the lost are ready to be saved. They are weakened and tired. Who will go? Who shall I send? The harvest is white and ready, but the laborers are few. “Will You Go?

Romans 8:19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.

Statement of Purpose

Ephesians 4:11-14 And he gave some, Apostles; and some, Prophets; and some Evangelists; and some Pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the Body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ: That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

“A Touch From my heart to you”

The purpose of this manual is to provide the Five-Fold Ministry, Churches and Ministries with information and a practical working guide to assist them In training their Ministerial Staff.

Chapter I The Call Romans 10:14-15 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? As it is written, how beautiful are the feet of them that preach the Gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

Let’s take a look at the call. What is “the call”? What is the importance of your calling? Is ministry something you can just desire? The “Call” is a Holy invitation from the Lord to do His bidding. Which can sometimes be heard in a cry, or loud voice of shout. The call is a command or request by a divine Power (God) announcing with Authority rendering you as a disciple of Christ with the right (full Authority) to proclaim His Word (the Gospel of the Good News of Jesus). Once you except the call, your life is now in His hand, all things halt and everything around you and about you changes. The call is the voice of God calling you into the Kingdom under the Five-Fold ministry with a mandate, mission, vision and purpose along with an assignment. The focus of this ministry is to do the will of the Father by gathering the lost sheep and bringing them back into fold. The ministers do God’s bidding here on earth. We are the sheep of His pasture. We go forward demonstrating the power of God’s love and restoration. As we minister God’s love we should have a full understanding of who we are and who has empowered us. We are one in the Body of Christ. “Many are called but few are chosen”. The call is something that every minister should experience before they move forward in ministry. Since there are various gifts and callings you owe it to yourself to make your calling and election sure. There are many people who move ahead of God, unfortunately this causes damage in the Body and can cause harm to many people if they are not handled properly. It’s like trying to fit a piece in a puzzle incorrectly. It may work out, but in the end the picture looks awkward. We must know our destiny and calling in life. When God created us He created us with purpose already planted within. Through the in filling of the Holy Spirit He will bring light to the areas God wants to use us in. Many times we seek instructions from man, to a point this is okay but ultimately this type information can only come from God. The callings of God are sure. He speaks clearly to those He calls and fills them with purpose to do His will. Anyone or thing leading you out side of the perfect will of God is in error. The perfect will of God is not gifts, meat or drinks but is the Kingdom of God coming into its fullness. Birthing Sons and daughters to proclaim liberty to the lost. Jesus said the Spirit of the Lord was upon Him. (Luke 4:18) This anointing was for the work of the ministry. 10

The Five-Fold Ministry (Apostles, Prophets, Pastors, Evangelists, Teachers), are what we say are “Called Positions”; these are position appointed to us only by God. Your Pastor or Prophet can’t put these callings on your life. God must call you; it is important for you to know the voice of God. “My sheep know my voice and a stranger they will not follow. When God calls, He always gives instructions & an assignment with the call. Unlike other ministries some, which are included in the ministry of helps, are appointed positions such as (Bishops, Elders, Deacons, Ministers, Ushers, Missionary and Administrators, etc.) Many Ministers struggle with these questions. What is my purpose? How do I know the voice of the God? People say I have the gift of gab, so I should be a preacher? Can ministry be inherited? Is ministry what I really want to do? Am I willing to pay the price? Purpose The reason for which something exists or is done made, used, etc. An intended or desired result; end; aim; goal. Determination; resoluteness. The subject in hand; the point at issue. To set as an aim, intention, or goal for oneself. To intend; design. To have a purpose To resolve (to do something): He purposed to change his way of life radically. John 10:27-30 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish; neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. I and my Father are one.

You must know the voice of God, when you pray stop and listen to hear God speak back to you. God uses various ways to confirm His word. Sometimes he uses other sources and recourses to confirm His Word, i.e.: people, commercials, books, advertisements, songs and most of all Himself through the preached sermons of others. If God is calling you to ministry, don’t run; just yield and give Him a yes. Don’t be like Jonah (Jonah 1:1-2); you can cause others to go down with you. Purpose is the precious gift that keeps us living. Fulfilling the destiny that God has designed for our lives gives us hope and fulfillment. Sometimes finding this purpose is like walking through a maze. You have to search your heart and soul for what is right for you. Purpose is predetermined in your life by God not your parents, or generational legacy. Your purpose and destiny in life is not tied to any generational curse, background, neighborhood or education. (Hallelujah) It’s all about God’s plan for you. 11

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

To answer the call of God is an awesome responsibility, there will always be questions unanswered, but you can be assured that if you follow the Leadership of His Holy Spirit He will never lead you astray. If you look at the church today, we may not see a clear picture of the intent of God for ministry. The price you pay is the life you owe we all belongs to God. He will never put more on us than we are able to bear. He will give us double for what we have given Him, our life for eternal life and joy everlasting. Jesus says in His Word if you continue in my Word you shall know the truth and the truth shall “make” you free. The Body looks somewhat deformed right now due to so many walking ahead of God and compromising the Gospel. There’s a price to pay for the anointing of God. It’s not a packaged good that can be bought or sold just because you hang around a particular group. Anointing comes from submitting to God and Leadership, The anointing runs down not up. Once you are fully committed to your Leadership they will guide you in the right direction if they are Spirit led. The blind leading the blind will both fall in a ditch! If your Leaders is anointed and appointed by God, (he or she) will be able to answer some questions for you because they may have experience some of the same. Some people have the idea that preachers make good money. Some like the prestige, limelight, and the feeling of importance. Others like the Power and Authority that comes with the position or title; yet there are some who lack discipline and submission. No submission causes submersion, which means to sink. Ministry is viewed in various aspects. This society wants to arrive at the top, quick, fast, and in a hurry, but we must wait on our ministry. “Many are called but few are chosen”. God calls us with a Holy Calling and when He calls we will know without a doubt that it’s God. There are so many struggling to know their purpose and destiny for life. God uses the Five-Fold ministry to assist us through His Word to put us on the right path. II Thessalonians 2: 15-17 Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions, which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle. Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.

Look at these scriptures and notice what happens when God calls The Call to Abraham Genesis 17: 1-7 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect. And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly. And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying, As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a Father of many nations. Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a Father of many nations have I made thee. And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee. And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee. The Call to Isaiah Isaiah 6: 1-8 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple. Above it stood the seraphim’s: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, Holy, Holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory. And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke. Then said I, Woe is me! For I am undone because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts. Then flew one of the seraphim’s unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar: And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged. Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me. The Call to Peter John 21: 15 So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. The Call to Paul Acts 9: 3-6 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? And he said, who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do. 13

There’s a humbling in your soul, which comes with the call of God. Everything around you changes, the voice of God causes a rumbling in your soul when He speaks. When God calls, He gives a command. He gives you His purpose and your assignment. Not always at once, but as much as you can handle at the time. The more you study His Word the more His will becomes plain. Then He equips you for the job by filling you with His Holy Spirit. The anointing of God destroys yokes, breaks chains, and looses captives to gives you Power to go forward. (I John 2: 20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things), the unction is the ability to do what He has called you to do. You should know the area of your calling. As you go forth in your calling you should bring forth fruit (John 15:16). No one person is called to the world, just a special area of the world. Together we will reach the world. You can’t do it all by your self. We have to be careful of such pride, to make you think it is all about you. We are a team of believers fighting and working for the same cause, together we stand and divided we fall. People will give you accolades and speak well of you, which can cause you to get a “big head” to make you think you are more than you are. Jesus calls us to be a family of believers and together we are going to reach and build the Kingdom of God. Ministry is a lifetime assignment. Once you say, “yes” to the Lord, He will use you until the end. It is a joy to be a servant of the Most High. You’re never laid-off; it’s not a part-time job. You don’t ever have to worry about boredom or lack of work. There’s always enough work to do in the Kingdom of God. Ministry is not something you do for money. In ministry you’ll sometimes work for less than minimum wages. However, the Lord promises to supply all your needs according to His riches in glory. This is a promise He will always keep. You’ll witness as David did; you’ll never see the righteous forsaken nor His seed begging bread. If you’re in ministry for money, throw away your cards, cancel all engagements, put your robe in the closet, and get a real job. This will save you embarrassments as well as disappointments.

Purpose 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

Know Your Purpose

The reason for which something exists, or is done, made, or used, to intend; design An intended or desired result; end; aim; goal. Determination; resoluteness. The subject in hand; the point at issue. To set as an aim, intention, or goal for oneself.

As we look at the calls in the Bible we see God gave each one an assignment or purpose for their calling. If we examine our days, weeks, months, then years, how much time would you say was spent fulfilling your purpose. Many times we are unsure of our purpose. We are filled with dreams, hopes and aspirations deposited in us through other people and sources. God is the giver of life and purpose; seek Him for your purpose in ministry as you go through this manual.

Making your Calling and Election Sure When do you know you’ve been called? Can I really be sure of my calling? There will be times in the beginning and even later in your ministry when you will question your calling. There are unique stories describing the way people were called. We sometimes get caught up in the emotionalism and if your experience wasn’t dramatic you may question your calling. Here is some experiences people have shared with me concerning their call to the ministry: Some say the room lit up and it was brightness all around them. Then they heard an audible voice calling their name saying go forth etc. Some have been called through His Word. The popular quote is “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me…” or Isaiah “Who will go and who will I send”. Others say they had a dream and saw themselves preaching before hundreds of people. Then there were times when a man or woman of God laid hands on them and prophesied to them that they were called into ministry. There are a few who might say that God put them on a bed of affliction to get their attention and told them to go. There are many experiences, but what about you? You must know that special encounter you had with the Lord when he called you. There are people who have had no experience at all, they just knew. They refer to the (something) inside them just kept pulling or tugging at them to go in this direction. I believe the call of God is on your life at birth, but sometimes not discovered until later years.

PDF Creator - PDF4Free v2.0

http://www.pdf4free.com

15

Throughout your childhood you would hear people referring to you, “There’s something special about that girl or boy”. But they were never clear of what that special something was. There are times when the call will manifest itself later in years. Whatever your experience, dramatic or peaceful, you must know for a certainty that you’re “Called By God”. The Word declares to us that my sheep know my voice and a stranger they will not follow. God is referring to His people, those who are called by His name who have accepted Him as their personal savior. Write out your calling experience. When were you called? What happened? What did He say? I Peter 1:10-11 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

There will be times in ministry when you’ll find yourself questioning whether you have been called or not. Somehow situations and circumstances will enter your life and back you against the wall of doubt. The enemy will make you question your faith. He will come against your stand and your position with God. David said, “thy Word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against thee”. The enemy will challenge your calling and every studied word. This is something that happens to everyone, but what we want to establish is a sure foundation. Jesus said, “upon this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it (Matt. 16:18)”. We are the church of the living God and it is time we take a stand and know in whom we believe. The enemy has many tactics and this is one of his areas of attacks. He will always bring up your past in order to make you feel inadequate. To over come this and stand firm in this Gospel you preach, you must first make your calling and election sure. When it comes right down to it; “None of us are Worthy”. Romans 11:29 states your gifts and calling of God are without repentance. It is God who makes you worthy to walk in the position that He has called you to. Once you have established this in your heart, your steps will be sure. Sometimes you’ll have to go back and ask the Lord to renew your experience. Through fasting and prayer you’ll get your answers. Don’t go forward until you’re sure.

After The Call One of the first things that should happen after God calls you to ministry. You should schedule a meeting with your Pastor. Your Pastor is a vital part of the ministry. Many times the Pastor knows before you do that you have a calling on your life. It’s important that your Pastor assist you through this process. I know many times people have said my Pastor don’t believe in me. They don’t agree with the call, they don’t recognize my gift, he doesn’t believe in women preachers. There is neither male nor female in the Body of Christ. (Gal. 3:28 there is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.)

If you’re making these type statements about your Pastor, something is wrong somewhere. Check yourself, how’s your walk with the Lord. Are you walking in obedience and submission to Authority? Are you committed to the ministry and services at your church? Is this the church the Lord placed you? These are some of the questions you need to ask yourself. If your Pastor does not believe in you, have you given them reason to doubt you? One of the very serious problems we have in the Body of Christ is that, we are too comfortable talking about the man or woman of God and other Leaders of the Five-Fold ministry. God has placed them over your lives to watch for our souls. The Bible says they watch for your souls. Many times people join churches for different reasons other than the right one. They have this idea of the perfect church or the one where they have some level of control. You might be surprised at the number of people looking for Pastors or ministries that they can manipulate and control. They look for a Pastor who will become their buddies rather than their shepherd. As usual, when people don’t get their way, they dog you out in their conversation. This is wrong and will definitely get you in trouble with the Lord. If this is your case, meet with your Pastor and discuss what you can do to make a change. You should take full responsibility for your actions, past, present, and future. Pray together, ask the Lord for directions (not others). Then follow the instructions of the Lord. Remember, your gift will make room for you. You don’t have to make room for your gift. That’s God’s job so let him do it, for He does all things well.

17

PDF Creator - PDF4Free v2.0

http://www.pdf4free.com

Once you have met with your Pastors, they may set some guidelines for you or give you some instructions as to where to go from here. Don’t stop there; do that and strive to be the best you can be. Get into the Word live in the Word. It is your responsibility to prepare yourself through prayer, fasting, and studying God’s Word. You can’t just sit around and wait for things to happen, you must seek after knowledge. Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; this is the truth of God’s; which makes us free.

Find yourself a good Bible College or Program to enroll in. You might say, “I don’t have the time or the funds to go to school”. Check out the free Bible Classes and Colleges that will allow you to audit some of their classes. We have Internet resources these days, go on the Internet and find a good Bible Study Program or Online Bible Classes. It is your responsibility to learn as much as you can about this Gospel we preach. But be careful what you eat and where you eat. Always keep your Pastors in the loop; they need to know your whereabouts and whom you are studying with. When you’re called to minister to people, you want to feed them good and fresh food. God has called you to a ministry of life and reconciliation. You’ll be refreshed, built up, as the fire of God kindles through you to study His Word. The Spirit of the Lord will stir you during this manual training. So gird up your loins, equip yourself.

Your Mission & Purpose In Ministry Luke 4:17-18 And there was delivered unto him the book of the Prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the Gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

Now it’s time to sit down and re-evaluate your life. Many times our lives are so full and congested that you don’t have time for much of anything. Learn time management skills; create time for prayer and study. Regular Bible studies won’t be enough for you, remember you’ll be eating for you and many more. As the saying goes, “you’re pregnant now, take care of yourself.” Jesus sets the stage for ministry by stating first of all that God anointed him. Today we have many good preachers, but many of them have no substance (anointing). 18

PDF Creator - PDF4Free v2.0

http://www.pdf4free.com

The anointing is not a label, but a positioning a smearing of the Power of God. The anointing is invisible yet visible through your lifestyles, conversation, and signs and wonders demonstrated in your ministry. If you are anointed you won’t have to tell people, because they will tell you. Ask yourself the question “what is your Spiritual assignment and what is the area of ministry you are called to”? Isaiah 10:27 And is shall come to pass in that day, {that} his burden shall be taken away from off my shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yolk shall be destroyed because of the anointing.

Remember it is not your intellect, nor Excellency of speech, but the anointing that destroys yokes. You can preach a flattery message and no one gets saved or delivered. The ministry of preaching is to see people saved, healed, and delivered by the Power of God. You can’t do this on your own. It takes being submitted to the one who called you. “Why Am I Anointed”? You are anointed to preach. To preach what? “The Gospel of the Good News of Jesus Christ” Don’t allows fads and Newsweek to interfere with a rhema Word. Jesus promises to give us our daily bread. We who are called into the Prophetic must consistently seek the face of God for a word for His people concerning the next move in the kingdom. “The Good News of Jesus Christ” Abraham called to be an Intercessor & Father of Many Nations Geneses 26: 2-5 2 And the LORD appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land, which I shall tell thee of: 3 Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy Father; 4 And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; Moses called to be a Deliverer Exodus 9: 1 1 Then the LORD said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh, and tell him, Thus saith the LORD God of the Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may serve me. Samuel called to be a Prophet II Samuel 7: 5 5 Go and tell my servant David, Thus saith the LORD, Shalt thou build me a house for me to dwell in?

There are many callings in the Bible; we are shown the office, purpose and the nature of the calls. The Five-Fold ministry is demonstrated in the scripture to give you a clear view of your areas of responsibility and purpose of your service to God. Here is a diagram of your mission statement: (Luke 4 vs. 17&18) I am called by God to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The purpose of my calling is to preach to the poor and to those who are lost. I will minister healing to the sick, broken hearted, and hurting. I must preach to the bound and bring them a word of deliverance, by sharing the Gospel of the Good News of Jesus Christ. By His Power and the grace of God to minister sight to the blind (physically and Spiritually). He has anointed me to set the captives free. Acts 2: 17-18 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

You must know your purpose and the area of ministry God has called you to. Everybody won’t have a pulpit ministry. However we are called to a ministry of reconciliation. Don’t allow the enemy to get you puffed up in pride, thinking you are more than you are. Remember this, that you’re a servant…not a title. Matthew 20:25-28 But Jesus called them unto him, and said; ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise Authority upon them. But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you let him be your Ministers And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: Even as the Son of man came not to be Ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

Write out your mission statement: A mission statement is a sentence that captures the essence of what you want to do, and how you want to empower others.

Attire “For Pulpit Ministry” The attire of Ministers is most important. You should be appropriately dressed to minister at all times. Wear a robe as much as possible while ministering this will save you wear and tear of your clothing. Many times you will get stains, which sometimes aren’t so easily removed. 20

Wearing a robe provides you with protective covering over the majority of your Body. It is a priestly garment set aside by God to stand before His people. If you’re a female, your dress or skirt should have adequate length not tight fitting. Splits should not be above the knee. Proper undergarments should be worn. The Ministers are required to do a lot of bending and moving around during preaching or ministering at the altar. For this cause, you wear loose fitting clothing to allow you enough room to move around. If your Pastor allows pants to be worn at your church, they should be loose fitting and preferable with an over blouse. Allow the Holy Spirit to govern you and follow the Leaders-ship of your Pastor. Ministry is a Holy calling and your attire represents who we are. It is God’s desire that when you minister you should wear priestly garments. This will bring Him glory and respect for your position.

The Characteristics of “The Called One” Galatians 5: 22-26 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

The scripture tells us that by Love all men will know that we are His disciples when we have Love one for another. As Ministers of the Gospel we must walk in love one towards another. Not being envious or jealous of each other. We should not covet another person’s gift or ministry. God has made us unique and different. We never know the cost someone else had to pay for the anointing that is in his or her life. We should walk in integrity and have excellent character traits. Say what you mean and mean what you say. Watch the company you keep and your conversations, remember joking and jesting are inconvenient for the saints. Speak blessings and not cursing, don’t let evil conversation proceed from your mouth. Don’t get caught up in gossip and a liar won’t tarry in His sight. We are living epistles people are watching our lives.

Chapter II “Message Powerful yet simple”

You are now a preacher of the Gospel, one who proclaims the Word of God. You have been chosen by God to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ. God uses your personality as a transmitter for His message. Preparing your message can be exciting; this is the time when you have to trust the voice of God for your message. Sermons come in different forms and at different times. 21

PDF Creator - PDF4Free v2.0

http://www.pdf4free.com

There are times you’re riding in your car or sitting at the table when God will speak a word to you. It will hit you so that you’ll stop what you’re doing and get a pen and start writing. You should keep a pen and pad at your bedside and in your restroom; these are places where the Lord ministers to you; be ready to write. Even though God gives you messages in various ways through different situations during prayer, dreams, study, and even during services while others are preaching. That message may not be for that appointed time. There is always a right word for the right season. Study your message, research and do word meaning so you won’t take the Word out of context. Remember, “Study to shew thyself approved,” always rightfully divide the Word of truth. As Ministers of the Gospel we have to be careful not to fall into the popular preaching syndrome. This is where you want to preach the popular theme or message of the hour. We need to hear from God and people lives are depending on you, seek God each time you are going forward to minister. Don’t get into the practice of rehearsing and taking other heard messages and transforming them for your use. God is able to speak to you and give you a unique message for that appropriate time. Always be prayerful and ask the Lord “what would you have me to say”. Remember, the days we are in, we need a Word from the Lord to heal our nation and situations. When preparing a sermon you’ll need a notebook or computer, pens, highlighter, red pen, Bible, concordance and dictionary. Start and finish with prayer, don’t become frustrated if you don’t complete the sermon all at once. This takes time and sometimes you’re on your way out the door and the Lord is still pouring into your Spirit things He wants you to share. Preaching is an exciting time; you’re able to pour into the people what God has poured into you. Develop your own style of preaching, whatever makes you comfortable, and allow God to use you by remaining an open channel. Don’t force yourself to yell or scream and pick up other form of preaching clichés “ oh yawl don’t hear me”, “say yea,” “Oh I wish I had a praying church”. Allow the people to take hold of your personality, who you are. Be yourself, flow in the gift and style that God has given you and the anointing will destroy the yokes every time. Use good pulpit etiquette; get instructions from your Pastor as to the protocol and how they like to see things done. Watch your Leaders or the Leaders of that ministry. We learn by following good Leadership. 22

Refrain from using old clichés and ghetto slang words during your presentation. Don’t use empty works like “ohm ohm” to just fill in the blanks. Preaching is not people bashing, but exhortation, encouragement. If you’re not the Pastor of a church, then your message should not be geared towards the foundational, doctrinal beliefs of that church. When you stick to the Gospel you can never go wrong. Refrain from preaching on clothes, jewelry, and other things that are the Pastor’s concerns and responsibility. Leadership teaches these things in Bible study or church meetings. Preparing a Sermon Intro.

The introduction is your opening statement; gather your thoughts and information; set the stage for the message you want to get across. Make statements to prepare the congregation for where you are trying to take them in your message. Include yourself and always open in prayer. Make sure to do all your greetings during this time. Give honor to which honor are due and thanks to all necessary parties.

Text

The word “text” comes from the Latin “texere” meaning to weave, to put together, to construct, or to compose. Text is an expression of thought in a continuous speech or writing. Get the scriptures pertaining to the subject at hand. Only use the vital scriptures, which will help you get your message out. Read only the portion of the scripture, which contains your subject. Reading too lengthy a scripture will cause the congregation to loose focus on the message. Use a highlighter to clearly see the scriptures you want to pull out to use later in your message.

Subject

The relation between the subject and the text should be clear and unquestioned. The sermon may or may not have a text, but it must have a subject. The subject is the substance of the message you want to portray to the people. This is the subject or topic of the message you’ll be preaching. God also has a sense of humor; don’t be afraid to use laughter. A merry heart is good medicine. Be prayerful concerning your subject: make sure the text and the subject go hand in hand. The Subject is what you’ll be preaching. (Stay focused)!

Message

I’m excited already; this is the time you bring forth what God has released in you for the people. If you’re not excited about the message then how do you expect the people to feel? All of God’s Word is good for the soul. There are times when God challenges us with His Word. 23

PDF Creator - PDF4Free v2.0

http://www.pdf4free.com

How you bring forth the Word will determine how well it is received. If you use notes to bring the message, place them on small index cards and stay focused on the people, glancing down occasionally to pull from the card. Don’t keep your head down continually looking at your notes. The people will loose confidence and feel you’re unsure of what you’re preaching. If at anytime the Spirit takes you away from your notes and you’re out there and preaching, don’t attempt to go back and gather the notes to re-preach what’s already been said? This means that the Holy Spirit took over and got His point across and that’s enough. “It is finished”. Conclusion Learn to be sensitive to the Spirit. When the Spirit of God is finished, so are you. Everything else becomes babble and will frustrate the people of God. A good message doesn’t have to be lengthy. After a certain point, you loose the people and they won’t remember what you said. Keep repeating your Topic because that is the message you want them to go home with. Close your message with the highlights and prayer.

The Plan of Salvation, “Saved & Holy Ghost Filled”? It is imperative that you’re saved and filled with the Holy Spirit. There will be times in ministry when you’ll be asked to Minister’s salvation to others. Knowing and having a full understanding of the scriptures concerning salvation will allow you to flow in full confidence. Romans 10:9-10 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Salvation is the first step in a believer’s faith. When the heart has come to a Godly sorrow, which brings about conviction and repentance. (II Cor. 7:10 For Godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.)

This keeps you in line with God’s Word. Knowing your place in God will be your defense against the enemy of doubt. Know this scripture; rehearse it. You’ll use it the rest of your life. Salvation is God’s plan to adopt us into the Kingdom of God. Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other. For there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. As a preacher and a Minster of God know this scripture live it & love it. 24

Romans 1:6 For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ: for it is the Power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. Salvation gives testimony of the delivering Power of God. Salvation brings about a change in your life. After you receive salvation, then the Lord seals it with the Holy Spirit of promise. Ephesians 1:13-14 13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the Word of truth, the Gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise, 14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory. Salvation is also your covering against the enemy. Ephesians 6:17 -18 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God: 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; Philippians 2:12-13 12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. 13 For it is God, which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

The Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit, as He is called, is also referred to as the third person of the trinity. He is the Spirit and the Power of God. He is the gift that is given to every believer. (Luke 11:13) Jesus says that if ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? We believe that the Holy Spirit is for every believer and through this Power; we are sealed until Jesus returns. He is the Power that keeps us. He aids us in our prayer life as we walk in victory. Here’s a small list of names and scriptures that refer to the Holy Spirit. The Keeper The Healer The Teacher The Sealer The Anointing

Matthew 3:11-12 11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, who is shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: 12 Who is fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire. Mark 1:8 I indeed have baptized you with water; but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost. Acts1: 8 But ye shall receive Power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you; and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

The sealing of the Holy Spirit for the working of the ministry will give you Power. Through this experience, some believers have received the gift of speaking in tongue. This is a very sensitive subject for some ministries. Talk to your Pastor; know what the church believes regarding this subject. If you desire this gift, pray about it; ask the Lord and be ready to receive. Matthew 28:19 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; Acts2: 3-4 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Throughout ministry the Holy Spirit will empower you with the ability to live for Christ. He gives you the ability through His love, to love one another. Your understanding of the scriptures will come through the guidance and Leadership of the Holy Spirit. He is your teacher, comforter, healer, keeper, sealer (seals us until the day of redemption), Leaders and guide, etc… He leads us to all paths of truth. The Holy Spirit teaches us to pray and prayer is your weapon to defeat the enemy of sin.

Chapter III Handling the things of God “Communion & Foot Washing” The Lord's Supper symbolizes the Lord's death and suffering. The sacraments represent the Body and blood of Jesus. As we partake of the communion we become one with him. 26

PDF Creator - PDF4Free v2.0

http://www.pdf4free.com

The scripture tells us to exam ourselves, before partaking, this is to assure that you are in right fellowship with him. It causes you to continue to keep your hearts clean and keep a repenting spirit. Each church has set aside a designated time to take the Lord's Supper. As often as you do this, you show remembrance of the Lord. The instructions on how to carry out this service comes from the Pastor or assigned Missionaries or Deacons. When you are asked to pray please remember to pray for the subject at hand. For instance if you're asked to bless the sacraments, then do that, etc. Know how to pray; study to pray to shew yourself approved. The Missionaries usually prepare the sacraments; sometimes the Deacons or Elders will prepare it. If asked to assist, the process is prayerful but simple. Make sure you're working in a clean area and you've washed your hands. Be aware that some churches use grape juice and other grape wine. Some use cracker, wafers or Jewish flat bread, even now some are pre-ready. Pour liquid into the cups. Please don't overflow. If the wafers or crackers require breaking, then you would break them into small pieces and place them on the plate. Once this is complete, you carry it out and place it on the appropriate table in the sanctuary and cover it with the white cloths. Communion is usually taken immediately following morning service; some churches have a special service just for communion. The Ministers, Elders, Deacons and Missionaries take their place with the Pastor or Leaders standing at the head. The table is uncovered and someone is asked to pray. One will bless the wine, the other will bless the crackers, and then someone will pray for the congregation. Communion is passed out serving the Pastor and Ministers first then the congregation. (Will vary from church to church)

Make sure you're clear with the instructions, because some churches serve the Pastors and Leaders first and they actually partake of the communion, and then the congregation is served. When you're praying, again, make sure you focus your prayer on the area you're asked to bless. This will bring order and allow the Spirit of the Lord to continue to flow and your service will be blessed. If you're asked to read the scripture, I have listed it at the bottom. (I Cor. 11: 23-30)

Luke 22:15-20 And he said unto them, with desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer: For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said. Take this, and divide it among yourselves:

27

PDF Creator - PDF4Free v2.0

http://www.pdf4free.com

For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come. And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying. This is my Body, which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. Likewise also the cup after supper, saying. This cup is the New Testament in my blood, which is shed for you. I Corinthians 11: 23-30 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, that the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my Body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, this cup is the New Testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come. Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the Body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's Body. For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.

Foot Washing This is a traditional ceremony in some churches. However you may be in a ministry where this is never done. It is the choice of the Pastor, but you still should know the history and procedure. Foot washing is part of the Passover performed by Jesus with his disciples. John 13:4-10 He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself. After that he poureth water into a basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded. Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet? Jesus answered and said unto him, what I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter. Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not; thou hast no part with me. Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.

Washing the feet symbolizes a spirit of humility and servitude. This practice is for the New Testament church. This is a service performed on special occasions as the Lord leads the Pastor. The service goes pretty much like the scripture dictates. The Ministers usually girds themselves in a towel and as the people line up or are seated on a pew or chair, the Ministers go with a basin filled with water and cloth and he/she washes feet (no soap required). This is a Spiritual and Holy experience and should be done prayerfully and with humility. 28

http://www.pdf4free.com

Make sure you don’t soak the people’s feet. Usually you’ll place the towel in the water and wring the towel dry; then apply it to the feet while praying. Then there are times when the feet are actually dipped in the water and then dried with a towel while praying. Again, this is a ceremony where instructions come from the Pastor or Leadership. Make sure you’re clear of what’s expected of you as you go forth in this ministry.

Baptism Baptism is another step of faith. Once the Word of God saves you through the washing of the water, you’re then baptized to walk in the newness of life. Water baptism is necessary as instructed by Jesus. Baptism is an outward sign that you have accepted Christ as your personal Savior. John 3:3-7 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, how can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is Spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, ye must be born again.

Baptism is usually performed through emersion. However, this will vary from church to church, depending upon one’s belief. Baptism by emersion represents the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Col. 2:12). Baptism can be performed with the formula Jesus left to his disciples in Acts 2:38-39; again this also will vary from church to church. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

There are times when people have received the Holy Spirit during baptism. Through baptism, it is a sign that you have accepted Jesus as your personal savior. This witness announces that your sins have been washed away. You can now arise a new creature in Christ. There are times when you’ll be asked to assist in this ceremony. You might be asked to step in the water. Make sure you’re prepared for this. Most churches will provide special clothing for this service. If you’re a female, make sure you have consulted your Pastor on their beliefs concerning “Women performing Baptism”. 29

http://www.pdf4free.com

If, you’re asked to read the scripture, make sure you know the belief of the ministry so you can read the appropriate scripture. Some will read the entire scripture and dip once, while the others will dip the convert three (3) times one for the Father, one for the Son, and one for the Holy Spirit. Make sure you’re in compliance with the church or Ministers you’re assisting. Acts 19:3-6 And he said unto them, unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him, which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

Chapter IV The Gift of Giving “Tithes & Offering” As the Ministers of the Gospel you should be a partaker of the scriptures. The Bible teaches us that a tenth belongs to God. This is a blessing, which will bring great results in your life and ministry. Learning to give to God will bless you. Tithing off of your speaking engagements will bring great blessings to you as well as your church. If this is an area you need to work on, pray and start tithing and trust God to bring results. Remember we are a teacher of the whole law and principles of God. Malachi 3:8-12 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts. And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the LORD of hosts.

Ministries are supported by the tithes and offerings. Tithing is the will of God for the believer, it unlocks the doors of the promises that God has for your life. Bring your tithes and offerings unto the Lord. Sometimes you might give a little and the Master makes it much with the touch of His hands. Remember as you give, it will be given back to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over; God shall cause men to give unto you. There are many promises in the Bible that refers to the promise of blessings when we give. To be a giver is to become prosperous in the Lord.

Prayers (Offering, Opening Service, etc) Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Praying is something we gain through communicating with the Father. When we learn to talk to Him the more open we become with praying for others. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. (James 5:14-16) We must develop a life of prayer. Prayer is basically “Talking to God”. Once we know the Word of God and pray the Word back to him, we will see greater results. When blessing the offerings we bless the givers that they may receive their harvest and for those that did not have to give, we bind the adversary that comes to kill, steal, and destroy and then release the blessings of the Lord. When praying always release God’s blessing. There is a prayer for every situation and circumstance. When asked to bless a particular portion of the program or a particular thing, focus your prayer in those areas. We must learn to gear your prayers toward the need at hand. Remember prayers are a blessing, and God said blessings I will bless thee. This is your opportunity to speak blessings over people lives; speak positive and with Authority knowing that God will do just what He said. This is why it is important to pray scriptural prayers. God promises to stand on His Word. John 16:23-24 And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

Opening Prayer Matthew 13:23 But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the Word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

This scripture is most misunderstood as blessing for the offering. But really it is a blessing to the one that not only hears the Word, but also become a doer of the Word. This would be a good prayer to pray prior to the preached Word. An opening prayer should be geared towards the service. Releasing the anointing and liberty of God so signs and wonders can follow the preached Word. 31

Souls can be saved and delivered by the Power of God. The prayer will bind the adversary that will attempt to bind the service. Praying that the man or woman of God can freely flow in the Spirit and the Lord will go forth without struggle. This prayer releases a Spirit of praise and worship in the atmosphere.

Offertory Prayer

Luke 6:38 38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. Deuteronomy 28:1-13 1 And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth: 2 And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God. 3 Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field. 4 Blessed shall be the fruit of thy Body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep. 5 Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store. 6 Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out. 7 The LORD shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways. 8 The LORD shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses, and in all that thou settest thine hand unto; and he shall bless thee in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. 9 The LORD shall establish thee an Holy people unto himself, as he hath sworn unto thee, if thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, and walk in his ways. 10 And all people of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of the LORD; and they shall be afraid of thee. 11 And the LORD shall make thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of thy Body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which the LORD sware unto thy Fathers to give thee.

Receiving An Offering Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

Remember you’re not a hireling. You’re not in the ministry for money. Yet, God has promised to supply your needs. God has made you a Minister of the Gospel and what we call good ground. People will sew seed into your ground that they may reap a harvest. They will seed to you and as you travel to various ministries you are planting their seed in areas (ground) they may not be able to reach. Then when harvest time comes they will receive their blessings. 32

I share this through experience “no ministry is to small to receive their offering”. I remember as a young Minister. I would give the offering back every time I ministered at a small church. I can’t say the Holy Spirit led me; it was just something I did. Sometimes I would say to myself they are too small and they need their offering to continue to build. The experience of a loving Pastor took me to Philippians 4:14-20 14 Notwithstanding ye have well done, that ye did communicate with my affliction. 15 Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the Gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only. 16 For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity. 17 Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account. 18 But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, well pleasing to God. 19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. 20 Now unto God and our Father be glory forever and ever. Amen.

This is what he said, “you’ll do well in ministry because you have a good heart and the Lord is with you, but you have offended me in that you refused my gift”. He said, “We, are a small church trying to grow in the principles and will of God. God has instructed us to give our way out of debt and in our giving we would build a new sanctuary”. He said, “God has made you good ground and we want to sew our seed into your life and ministry so we can be blessed”. My heart was stirred in that Pastor’s office as he ministered to me. I thought about how the other churches might have felt. I thought I might have denied people the opportunity to get blessed. Just to think God has made me good sowing ground. From that day on I would receive my offering with thanksgiving and pray the blessing upon the lives of all who seeded. I pray that God will supply all their needs according to His riches in glory. Now I say, “When you see me you see your seed” The laborer is worthy of his hire. This is one of the ways that God blesses His people, he said He will cause men to give unto your bosom. If you are a giver than you’ll have to learn to receive. I Corinthians 9:6-7 But this I say, He, who soweth sparingly, shall reap also sparingly; and he, who soweth bountifully, shall reap also bountifully. Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

Chapter V The Acts of a Worship Leaders Altar Calls (The Invitation) These are procedures, which should be taught by your Pastor or Leadership in the church. You should study and know how to govern yourself from church to church. Whenever you’re not sure of how a church operates, don’t be afraid to ask. There are times when you preach that the Pastor wants you to do an altar call and open the doors of the church. Then there are times when a church may prefer to have one of their Ministers or one assigned on the program to cover this area. You need to know what’s expected of you prior to preaching. Altars calls are different in every church. There may be times the Pastor wants you to Minister to the people individually or he might want a corporate prayer. Know this prior to your preaching and don’t be afraid to ask. Always get permission from the Pastor or Leadership before you proceed to lay hands or anoint the people. This may be offensive to some. The invitation is making a call for the lost (the unsaved). This should be done after every message. But get the approval from the Pastor; there are times when this is not done, especially during special anniversary and choir celebrations etc. Altar call is when you ask if there is a need for special prayer such as healing, touch and agree, to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit and Salvation etc. this will be a time of personal ministry. This also can be preformed through corporate prayer. Ask for guidance of the Holy Spirit before you pray.

Special Services (Response, Remarks, etc.) Things to ask when invited to speak or respond at special services are. What are your theme, colors, time, place and location? Also address the time frame. If you’re asked to be mistress or master of ceremony, the service may be time sensitive. Make sure you have all the information you need so things can go smoothly and the presence of the Lord will be honored. If making remarks or responding in a service and you’ve been previously notified. Listen to the ones speaking before you. Sometimes you can pull nuggets and bring a message together which will promote joy in the service. Keep your remarks focused and brief.

Special Blessings: Children, Homes, Churches, etc. These are special times when you’re asked to bless a new home, church, ministry etc. or even christen a baby. There are specific instructions for these type ceremonies. A Minister’s manual will aid you in this. Also get instructions from your Pastor. Sometimes the family will have special requests as to how they want it done. Be clear with your instructions and make sure you know what is expected of you. When blessing a particular item or thing, the Ministers might use oil or water depending on the church and one’s belief. Especially when blessing a child. Some religions consider blessing a child as baptism and therefore they use water. Then others consider blessing the child as an anointing and they anoint with oil. When blessing a home, you would always walk through the home pronouncing blessings, praying and reading scripture. It is good to have an assistant with you while you are doing this. Feel free to lay hands on the doors and other items as you go through; this is a part of blessing. (Point of contact). This is a time of blessing and celebration; remember, stay focused and keep your prayers geared toward the subject at hand. If you’re asked to do these things outside of your church, make sure you inform your Pastor.

Devotional Leaders & Mistress or Master of Ceremony These are areas of ministry that we are asked to perform in your churches as well as outside. They are good for us because they allow you to exercise your gift in ministry. They teach you to overcome fear, how to speak in front of people, and how to develop etiquette. It is your responsibility to find out what the sponsor of the program is expecting from you. It is dangerous to assume. Once you have gotten all your information, (date, time, theme, purpose, etc…) stick to the program unless other wise directed. This is not your opportunity to preach, slander, or throw unnecessary statements across the pulpit.

Chapter VI “Ordination vs. License” Ordain To invest with Ministerial or sacerdotal functions; confer Holy orders upon. To enact or establish by law, edict, etc… To decree; give orders for (of God, fate, etc.) to destine or predestine. To select for or appoint to an office. To invest in someone with sacerdotal functions. License Formal permission from a governmental or other constituted Authority such as churches to do something, as to carry on some business or profession. A certificate, giving such proof of such permission; official permit. Permission to do or not to do something. To grant Authority permission or license to. Some organizations feel unless you’re called to Pastor there’s no need for ordination. Once licensed to go forward in ministry this allows you to preach freely as doors are open to you. Your Pastor does the licensing process as they anoint you and lay hands upon you and set you aside as Ministers of the Gospel. However, a license will afford you limited opportunities in some churches. Such as; you must be an ordained Ministers to participate in Communion, Baptism, Weddings, Funerals, Etc… these duties and responsibilities are believed to be reserved for the ordained Ministers or Elders of the church. Ordination services are usually held by a group of Apostles, Pastors or Bishops. They usually have seven (7) Elders, which is the number of completion. Prior to ordination in some organizations, you go through an examination. This is when you’re set before a board and asked questions. Some of the questions relate to your call, your salvation, your position etc. You’re questioned until they feel you’re ready to take the next step. After this process, there’s a service where you’re anointed and all the Elders, Pastors, Bishops and Apostles will lay hands upon you and you’re set aside and acknowledged as an Ordained Ministers. Once you’re ordained this completes the credentialing part of your ministry. Apostle ordination usually consists of several Apostles coming together to set them apart by the dressing of garments and anointing of oil and set them aside for their assignment. Only an Apostle can set aside another Apostle not a Bishop.

36

PDF Creator - PDF4Free v2.0

http://www.pdf4free.com

A Prophets ordination consist of several Apostles and Prophets coming together for the laying on of hands and anoint them with oil setting them aside for the prophetic work. They speak the blessings of the Lord over their lives. Pastors ordination consists of Apostles, Prophets, Bishops and other Pastors and Elders and other Leaders of that church comes together for the laying on of hands and set aside for that assignment. The pastor of that organization does all other ordinations.

Weddings Matthew 19: 4-6 And he answered and said unto them, have ye not read, that he, which made them at the beginning, made them male and female, And said, for this cause shall a man leave Father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, Let not man put asunder.

Concerning performing Wedding ceremonies, this is usually performed by ordained Ministers or Pastors. If you’re not a Pastor then you must be ordained Ministers to perform this ceremony. This is a requirement by law. Marriage is honorable and ordained by God. There are certain guidelines and procedures for this type of ceremony. It will be helpful for you to obtain a Minister’s manual such as “The Pastor’s Manual” by J. R. Hobbs. This manual has instructions and rituals concerning ministry, which will help you. Some churches require counseling prior to marriage. Vows are sacred and are a blessing from the Lord. Sometimes the couple will prepare their own vows. Wedding ceremonies are always different; some have candle lighting, communions, blessing of the parents or children, sharing flowers etc. Meet with the couple and family members if necessary and get a good understanding of what’s expected of you. Ask if it okay for you to have an assistant present. They can assist you with prayer and other areas of the ceremony. Make sure you ask if there are any other Ministers the family wants to include in the ceremony. This is a once in a lifetime experience and should be glorious and special. Marriage is a Holy commitment to each other and the Lord. Always keep the Lord in the front of all arrangements. Don’t become a Jack or a Lone Ranger and allow people to maneuver you to substitute the order of the church. This is a sacred time and really should be preformed by a Pastor. 37

PDF Creator - PDF4Free v2.0

http://www.pdf4free.com

However, we know there are times when people want to enter into marriage and are not formally members of a local church. Counseling is still in order and this is an area of opportunity to Minister salvation and the value of having a Pastor and church home to share in this joyous occasion. It’s not good to enter into marriage without the opportunity of counsel. This can delay the blessings of God in their marriage. The counselor is equipped to share experiences and assist them is seeing their areas of weakness, which can sometimes destroy the marriage. Encourage them to not act in haste but to wait on the Lord. Write down your experience performing or participating in your first wedding:

Funerals Ecclesiastes 12:7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the Spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

Visiting with a hurting family can be draining. If you’re called to assist a family in their funeral arrangements, allow the family to make the decisions. Refrain from making suggestions unless asked to do so. Open and close in prayer; speak words of encouragement and don’t allow the enemy to enter with words of discord or defeat. Don’t become over-bearing and keep your visit effective, but brief. When returning to the family’s home after service, fellowship, and show love. This is a sensitive time for the family and unity needs to be encouraged at all times. Maintain good poise and refrain from joking and jesting, which are inconvenience for the saints. Again keep your visit brief.

Funeral services will also vary according to the request of the family members or attending church. If you’re asked to participate in any area of the service, remember to consider the hurting family and be brief. Do what you’re asked to do and politely take your seat. Selection

Select songs, which are appropriate that will bring meaning to the family. Pray about the song: let the Lord be glorified.

Scripture

Family may have a special scriptural request if you’re asked to read from the Old Testament & New Testament. Then there are times when you may be asked to read one or the other.

Prayer

Pray with enthusiasm: exhort the Lord, bless the family. Ask the Lord to heal all the hurts and pain: pray for unity and strength; ask the blessings upon the service that God will get the glory and someone’s heart might be changed. Stay focused and no matter what you know about the family, prayer is not the time to throw shots to God or darts at the family. Keep it brief.

Remarks

This is not the time to preach or pass out your mini sermon cards. (Pass out your business cards). Make remarks that will uplift the family. Keep them brief.

Eulogy

Eulogy means to speak well of, or to offer accolades to, such as when we worship the Lord. This is the time for God to get the glory. Preach as the Lord releases the message to you. If the person was not saved, stay away from repeating that. The family is already hurting; don’t continue rehearsing that in their hearing. Preach so that some heart will turn to Jesus and the family’s strength will be renewed. Keep it brief.

Cards & etc.

There is no way you can read all the cards; thank everyone for the cards the family has received. Then read a couple: just reading the inside and not announcing the person who sent the card. People are sensitive; reading names and leaving others out can cause confusion. Most of the time the family has pre-selected the cards they want read. Ask them if they want you to announce the sender as well.

Obituary

However you were instructed, if silently, then announce to the people we will take this time to silently read the obituary. Normally you would allow two (2) minutes for this. If you’re asked to read out loud, read it loud and clearly. This is someone’s life you’re proclaiming. 39

Facilitator

The position of the master or mistress of ceremony at a funeral is not an easy task. You’re the controller of the service; you have the ability to lift, drag out, or frustrate the people of God. Choose to uplift; you can do this without dragging this out. Reframe from making unnecessary statements. Allow the preacher the opportunity to do his/her job. Keep the service moving and flowing with joy, ushering in the presence of the Lord while staying focused on the reason why you’re there.

The Grave Site

The Ministers walks to the gravesite preceding the family reading scripture. Once everyone is seated, the Ministers give the final his final words of comfort to the family. Then the Body is committed to the grave.

Forasmuch as it hath pleased Almighty God, in his wise providence; to take out of this world ________________ your deceased loved one. We therefore we commit their Body to the ground; earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust; looking for the general resurrection in the last day, and the life of the world to come, through our Lord Jesus Christ; at who is second coming in glorious majesty to judge the world. The earth and the sea shall give up their dead and the corruptible bodies of those who sleep in Him shall be changed and made like his own glorious Body; according to the mighty working whereby he is able to subdue all things unto himself. (When stating this you would have dirt or flowers in your hands, putting it on the casket while reciting earth to earth, ashes to ashes, and dust to dust).

This is the committal, which is generally used. It will be helpful to get instructions from your Pastor and also purchase a Minister’s manual. Licensed Ministers can assist with a funeral but ordained Ministers must do the committal. Following the committal, the congregation is led in the Lord’s Prayer and then the Undertaker will come and have their final remarks. Then announce the location of the family gathering or repasts. Follow-up with the family they need support more after the crowd is gone. Write down your experience performing or participation in your first funeral:

Ministering to hurting people is a delicate situation. You want to have experience in this area so you won't offend people with undo remarks. During the grief process there are times to touch and times to refrain from touching. There are times to speak and then there are times when silence is golden. There are times to listen and then times to speak. It will be what you say which will promote healing. Refrain from making statements such as: I understand, do you really? It's going to be all right, maybe, are you really sure. Don't cry, why not, isn't crying what we do when we’re hurting. You'll see them again, will they? God Just took another angel; this is not sound scripture. There are other statements these are just a few. People that are hurting don't want to hear false statement to bring temporary gratification. They want sound statements, which will bring permanent wholeness. When you enter the room, you have the opportunity to change the atmosphere to promote healing. Be prayerful as you enter; always pray silently or openly. When there is confusion speak peace. If someone is crying and you want to calm them gently cuddle them or place you hand softly over them and speak peace. Allow the Holy Spirit to comfort them, recite scriptures of comfort rather than clichÊ.

A Road To Recovery; Stages of Grief Shock

This is the first sign when they hear the news. Even when they are anticipating the death of a love one, shock is inedible. They can't believe what happened. The loss of a love one is always devastating.

Emotion

This is the time to vent. Some will cry tears, anger, or vocal sounds etc. After getting through the shock of it they can release the hurt and pain. There's a feeling of loneliness and void; they feel the emptiness from the lost. Sometime loud screams of terror or visual signs of rage will be present.

Depression Depression and anxiety stems from hurt, guilty thoughts of unforgiveness, or memories of the past good, bad, or indifferent. The hurt changes and goes through stages and the hurting person becomes a victim of depression. They become stressed out and anxious sometimes refusing to eat or sleep. This is the time when they need comforting and encouragement especially to take care of themselves. Hidden illnesses can surface during these times, so don't hesitate to call a physician whenever necessary

41

Panic

What am I going to do now? How am I supposed to make it? What am I going to do without them? I don't know how to prepare a funeral. I don't have the funds. How am I supposed to contact everyone etc.? All these things come crashing into a person's mind. Then they panic; the situation is real and now they are force to face reality.

Hope

Joy does come in the morning. Time heals, love heals, and comfort heals. It is through these times that the love and comfort of family and friends will help the healing process.

Acceptance Sometimes after the gravesite, and sometimes long after the person has to come to acceptance before total healing can take place. The family and friends are gone home. All the arrangements have been made and even completed. Everything is over now. Somehow, they must go on with their lives. This is just a briefing on the aspects of grief. Take a class on bereavement and grief. It will help you as you go through ministry. Death will come to all our homes one day and it will be helpful if we have someone present who knows how to minister to the hurts. When a person is hurting and you’re ministering to them it is important that you not take things personal and to heart. There may be time when they vent frustrations and even say things that may be offensive. They're speaking out of hurt, brush it off and keep on praying. Always keep your shield sparkling and shining this will protect in all areas. Once you understand the state of mind of those who are suffering hurt, grief, sorrow etc. You will be able to Minister without your feelings being hurt. Listen as well as pray and ask the Lord for encouraging and effective words to say which will heal and Minister to that area of hurt. Allow the Holy Spirit to Minister through you from your heart and Spirit.

Chapter VII “Where Do I Fit In The Five-Fold Ministry”? Vs The Jack-of-All-Trades Ephesians 4:4-13 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.) And he gave some, Apostles; and some, Prophets; and some, Evangelists; and some, Pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the Body of Christ:

I have seen people go from one office to the next, until they have become chief Apostle. (Smile) Be still and know He is God. Promotions don’t come from man but it comes from God. Wait on your calling and make full proof of your ministry. 42

PDF Creator - PDF4Free v2.0

http://www.pdf4free.com

This is so important for the perfecting of the ministry. As you grow in the Lord, it is possible that your calling will grow with you. Wait on your calling, because as you serve God, He will reveal the time and area of the call. It is my belief that when you’re called, He calls you with a “Holy Calling”. The position God is calling you to is known by Him before He calls you. Once you are called He reveals to you your position, or area of calling. But, it is His desire to have you grow into the position, so He will start you off with what He feels you can handle at that time. Some positions are permanent callings. As you grow you develop a Spirit of Excellence in the area of your call. In other words, some are called to teach, they develop excellent teaching skills and they are still teaching today. Teaching the Word to the glory of God. Some were called to Evangelism and they evangelize until the day they die. Billy Graham is one of the greatest Evangelists ever known. He is happy with the calling on his life. He doesn’t struggle with it; as a matter of fact, he wears the title well. Sometimes people have categorized callings (titles) and set some to be more superior to others. We are all one in the Body of Christ; there is no little you or I. You must know you are a significant part of the Body of Christ. Your anointing flows in the area of your calling. That’s where your strength lies. Don’t seek after titles, but after the anointing. To walk in error is to walk in disobedience. There is so much confusion about the title Prophet; this is an area where you need full understanding in if this is your calling. Remember there is the gift of prophecy, which will enable you to prophesy, but this does not mean you are a Prophet. Through the ability of the Holy Spirit the gifts are there. He uses them as He wills. The calling of a Prophet is an office, a position in the Five-Fold ministry gift. “Touch not mine anointed, and do my Prophets no harm”. (I Chronicles 16:22) It is not my place to judge you concerning your call, but know for a certainty that this is the call on your life. The Jack-of-All-Trades is similar to the Lone Ranger; they carry the spirit of Pride and a haughty spirit, which we know comes before the fall. They feel they don’t need anyone; they can do it all by themselves. A familiar spirit is also in operation and a spirit of error, which will bring confusion to the Body of Christ. Beware of the Jack! 43

I Corinthians 12:28-31 And God hath set some in the church, first Apostles, secondarily Prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. Are all Apostles? Are all Prophets? Are all teachers? Are all workers of miracles? Have all the gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.

The Five-Fold Ministry Apostle

The ministry of an Apostle is to lay foundation and establish Ministries. They have walked in various offices within the Five-Fold ministry. Apostles are matured and developed individuals. Signs and Wonders will operate in their lives. They will provide spiritual covering and have an Apostolic anointing to set the Kingdom of God in order. They operate well in the gifts of the Spirit. An Apostle’s preaching and teaching reveals Jesus Christ as the head cornerstone of their lives. The word “Apostle” comes from the Greek word meaning to “send forth with a specific commission” or the sent one.

Prophet

A Prophet in the Old Testament was called a “Seer”. A Prophet is called to reveal events concerning the past, present, and future. Their message is God-revealed. A Prophet is also a preacher or one who proclaims and confirms, because they proclaim God’s Word. They speak of things concerning the Kingdom of God. God reveals His next move to His Prophet.

A Prophet can also be called a visionary; their message sometimes comes through dreams and visions. The Prophets missions and appointments come directly from God. Jer.23: 28:29 The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat? Saith the LORD. Is not my word like as a fire? Saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?

Evangelist An Evangelist is one who proclaims or preaches the Good News (Gospel of Jesus Christ). The Evangelist is a messenger of God called and sent forth with a message of healing, deliverance, and a proclamation of liberty for all. An Evangelist moves in the miraculous and operates in the gifts of the Spirit as they go forth in ministry. Pastor

A Pastor is the head shepherd of the church. One who is called to oversee and watch for the souls of the congregation. They have a direct contact with God and carry and feel the burden of his people. They become married to the church, a dedicated man or woman of God who has been ordained for this purpose.

44

Teacher

A Teacher is one who teaches. A Teacher that is called and anointed by God has the ability to unfold and break down the word of God for your understanding. They are delighted in teaching. They study and dig for knowledge and a better understanding of the Word of God. Then they teach others what they have received from God. (Hosea 6:4)

This is the apostolic hour and God is restoring order to the Body of Christ. Each ministry should have a Father or mother in the Spirit. (Spiritual Covering). You just don’t go to the top over night, but you are “Birthed” through the ranks by Spiritual parents. Each office is important and plays a valid role in the Body of Christ. What office of the Five-Fold ministry are you called

The Lone Ranger Exodus 18:17-19 And Moses' Father in law said unto him, the thing that thou doest is not good. Thou wilt surely wear away, both thou, and this people that is with thee: for this thing is too heavy for thee; thou art not able to perform it thyself alone. Hearken now unto my voice, I will give thee counsel, and God shall be with thee: Be thou for the people to God-ward, that thou mayest bring the causes unto God:

How many preachers do you know without a church home or Pastor”? This is a Spirit, which has entered into the Kingdom; it is a spirit of deception and a lying spirit. God ordained shepherds. The responsibility of the Shepherd is to watch over the flock. This spirit, give guidance and instructions, nurturing them in the things outside of the will of God. It is not the will of God for ministers (not only ministers, but people in general) to without Spiritual Leadership (Mothers & Fathers in the Gospel). Your Pastors are your Spiritual (Father or Mother) and covering. The Bible tells us if we are without a Father we are bastards. The enemy wants us to believe we can achieve ministry alone (the lone-ranger syndrome). This is a spirit of rebellion and has risen in the Body of Christ, which has caused people to turn against Leadership. We all need guidance and people who aren’t afraid to tell you what to do when you are right or wrong. Many times you will seek friends to approve, sanction, or validate you. This is not the order of God. It is God who calls and God who ordains. If you’re out there alone with no Spiritual covering, ask for God’s forgiveness and pray for a church home or covering. 45

When Ministers become (“Lone-Rangers”), they fall prey to a spirit of error and rebellion. You must always remain subject to your Pastors. You don’t go on engagements or take engagements without consultation from your Pastor. These are some of the ground rules, which are set for you once you meet with your Pastor. Keep a schedule of your church services and try to work around it. Sunday mornings you should attend your home church unless excused by your Pastor. You’re not the boss! The scripture tells us you’re not your own, but you were bought with a price, “the blood of Jesus”. The greatest blessing and anointing will come into your life as you walk in obedience to your Leadership. Ephesians 6:5-9 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you, as with sons for what son is he whom the Father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. Furthermore we have had Fathers of our flesh, which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?

As you become more committed to the vision and work of your church and Leadership “all things will work together for the good.” Commitment of your time, prayer, worship, tithes and offering is a requirement for good Leadership. Faithfulness promotes growth and development in every area of your life. God honors faithfulness and it is also rewarded by Him. Prayer of Forgiveness Heavenly Father, I pray in the name of Jesus that you would forgive me for my sins and transgressions. If I have walked contrary to your will for my life and have strayed into a path of rebellion, forgive me now. Lead me Father in the way you would have me to go. Create in me a clean heart and a submissive spirit. Teach me to submit to Leadership that I myself may learn to lead without error. Now Holy Spirit revives my soul again and refreshes the anointing in my life. In Jesus Name, Amen

Armour Bearer or Minister’s Assistant I Samuel 14:7 And his Armour bearer said unto him, Do all that (is) in thine heart: turn thee; behold, I (am) with thee according to thy heart

Most of the time the Armour bearer will select you rather than the reverse. The Bible tells us we are living epistles read of men.

People watch your life for different reasons, some good, and some bad. They have a tendency to mark or be like people they admire. Once the time comes in ministry when there is a need for an Armour bearer or assistant, God will go to work. He will place people in your life that you can trust. Trust is a big factor. Your life will become an open book to those who are assigned to care for you. It is important that you can trust them with your life. Your Armour bearer or assistant is not your slave; you’re to treat them with honor and respect. There may be times when it may not be easy to bring them close to you. Relationships are developed with time and space. As an Armour bearer or assistant you are responsible for covering the Ministers. This may consist of getting them their drinks or robes, handkerchief, or assisting them with their package. As an Armour bearer or assistant you must first have a relationship with the Lord. You must be saved and filled with the Holy Spirit and have a developed life of prayer and intercession. To become an Armour Bearer you need to have a good understanding of the role and responsibilities of a God given Armour bearer or assistant. Something that should be clearly understood by the Armour bearer is, that you are not to use your relationship to vent unnecessary problems to your Leaders. Learn to pray for yourself and prevent bringing undo stress to the ministry. There may be times you’ll select an Armour bearer or assistant. Look for good mature qualities, not friendships. Many times ministries have failed because they chose a friend to cover them rather than allowing God to make the choice. Sometimes friendships can be challenged by this experience. It’s like having a friend for a boss and on the job you still want to be buddies. Remember now that you are an Armour bearer or Minister’s Assistance; you have embraced another person’s life. There life has become an open book to you. They are now exposed and the things you did not know before you know now. It is important that you not reveal or expose your leader openly before people. Joking and Jesting will always offend people when you are laughing over their weaknesses or shortcomings. Please be mindful that they lead private lives and would like to keep it this way. (Don’t be a talebearer) Allow God to reveal to you who will stand by your side to aide you in ministry. They must have a watchful eye and a keen sense of Spiritual warfare. Don’t get so desperate for an Armour-bearer and select a person just based on their availability. This can be hazardous to the ministry. How can two walk together except they agree; there is Power in agreement. 47

There are times when you’ll see a husband-wife team, son-Father or motherdaughter, or vice-versa. This is good as long as it is God ordained; they must have a good and firm relationship with one another. Working together can be challenging and the enemy is always seeking to divide. Even in these setting, you may see additional assistance surrounding them. A ministry of assistance and Armour bearer is one that is built and grounded in love. Always be prayerful and watchful while covering your Leaders. Don’t allow people to smother or boxed them in corners containing them after service. If they are seeking information concerning dates and times or future engagements give them a card and encourage them to contact the appropriate person. It is always good for the Ministers to fellowship, but make sure people don’t wear them out. Take them to the designated area that they may refresh themselves. Make sure you provide fresh clothing and adequate water to prevent dehydration and illness. I Samuel 14:21 And David came to Saul, and stood before him: and he loved him greatly; and he became his Armour bearer.

A good amour-bearer is always sensitive to the needs of their Leaders. Never break rank and get consumed in outside conversations to take your attention away from your assignment. Watch as well as pray. ASAP (Always Stop And Pray).

The Ministry of Helps Romans 12:1-13 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, Holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. For as we have many members in one Body, and all members have not the same office: So we, being many, are one Body in Christ, and every one members one of another. Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching; Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness. Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honor preferring one another; Not slothful in business; fervent in Spirit; serving the Lord; Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; Distributing to the necessity of saints given to hospitality. 48

The ministry of helps is what we call building ministries or functional gifts, or motivational gifts because they build the church. This is one of the most vital parts of ministry. Yet it is sometimes referred to as “dirty work”. So who wants to do it? These functional gifts require sacrifice, a renewed mind and a desire to build the Kingdom of God. This ministry helps to lay foundations, establish and maintain structure for the ministry. God calls these ministries “Gifts”, because that is what they are. They represent and presents ministry. The growth of your ministry is determined by the gifts that are in operation in your church. Walking and operating in these gifts will help develop your ministry. As you flow in these motivational gifts the Spirit of the Lord will enhance the ministry. These gifts are like glue they hold the Body together. We are all one in the Body of Christ, the usher is just as important as the Pastor. We need all the gifts to operate in the church to make it whole. The ministries of helps are called functional gifts of the Body. They are the active gifts. Sometimes referred to as the “behind the scene gifts”. People that operate in the ministry of helps sometimes don’t get a lot of credit. However, the Body of Christ can’t function without them. The various offices and duties regarding the ministry of helps are usually an appointed position. (Even though the gifts are empowered to you by God). The Pastor or Leaders will recognize the gift and assign you positions in the church according to your skills. In every ministry we need people motivated by the gift of mercy with a heart and desire to serve the man or woman of God. The administrator is the one who organizes and maintain the business affairs of the ministry. The Prophet is the seer of the ministry and works closely with the Pastor and helps to confirm the move of God. The ministry of helps serves in various capacity of the church these are the trustees, board members, Missionaries, ushers, Deacons etc. The teachers will bless the Sunday Schools and special Bible classes. Then we have the exhorter, which symbolizes a tree as they stand strong and usher the people into the presence of God. No ministry can make it without givers; these are those who will give without apprehension and doubt, but are always willing to share in what God has blessed them with. All the gifts are important and they were established for the perfecting of the saints and for the unity of the Body of Christ that the church may be established and wanting nothing. 49

This is the hour of restoration for the Body of Christ, God is stirring up the gifts to edify and build up the Kingdom of God. Do your part and do it with a Spirit of Excellence.

Knowing The Gifts of the Spirit I Corinthians 12:1-14 1 Now concerning Spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. 2 Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led. 3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. 4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God, which worketh all in all. 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. 8 For to one is given by the Spirit the Word of wisdom; to another the Word of knowledge by the same Spirit; 9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of Spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: 11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. 12 For as the Body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one Body, being many, are one Body: so also is Christ. 13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one Body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. 14 For the Body is not one member, but many.

These are the gifts of the Spirit, which operate through the Ministers. You should know the gifts of God that flows through you. Many times when you’re called to ministry you don’t fully understand these gifts. Sometimes God uses you in areas you have never operated in before. The gifts of God are for the ministry of the church. They build up, heal, and bring us closer to the Lord. I will give a short explanation of these gifts. I won’t be able to deal with every aspect of the ministry, but you should continue to explore the gifts to bring a better understanding to you. This will help your Spiritual growth and ministry. The Word of Wisdom Wisdom is the quality or state of being wise. The Word of wisdom is a supernatural revelation by the Spirit of God concerning the divine purpose in the heart and will of God. The Word of wisdom speaks of future events concerning people, places, or things. The ability to judge correctly and to follow the best course of action based on knowledge and understanding. Wisdom is the ability to use the knowledge given to you by the Holy Spirit coupled with discernment. The wisdom of God will instruct you how to Minister 50

The Word of Knowledge The Word of knowledge is a supernatural revelation by the Spirit of God concerning facts in the heart of God, concerning people, places, or things. The Word of Knowledge will reveal things of the past and present. The Word of knowledge knows the truth or facts that a person acquires either through experience, teaching, by inspiration, or revelation. The state of knowing something or perception of the fact or truth revealed. Knowledge is the information given to you by the Holy Spirit and the Wisdom is the “How to apply what you know”. Wisdom and knowledge will always work together. The Gift of Faith “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen”. (Hebrew 11:1). Faith is the ability to believe God when there’s nothing visible. Faith is what the believer holds on to when there’s nothing in their hands. Faith operates through all parties involved in ministry. The Word tells us that God has dealt to every man a measure of Faith. What He is saying is that everyone even the sinner has the ability to believe in God. The gift of faith is different in that the faith is intensified. The person walking in the gift of faith receives the supernatural ability to believe God for the impossible. This gift also works supernaturally with the gift of healing and miracles. But without faith it is impossible to please God. “We walk by faith and not by sight” The Gift of Healing Healing is the deliverance from bondage (oppression, depression, obsession, and possession, etc…), sickness, infirmities, sin, death, situations, problems, etc… It is God’s ability to bring us out of whatever we are going through. Healing promotes health, life, joy and happiness to the believer’s life. The Bible tells us that healing is the children’s bread. Jesus bore the stripes on Calvary that we all might be healed. The Gift of Working of Miracles Miracles are the supernatural intervention of God. Miracles are the manifestation of the Power of God through the Holy Spirit. It is an extraordinary event or supernatural cause, which can only be considered a work of God. All healings are not miracles, whereas some are. Example: Restoration or replacement of an absent limb, or Body part, the opening of the eyes of the blind, the awakening or prevention of death etc… are miracles. Miracles are being performed everyday,

The Gift of Prophecy Prediction about the future or end-times; spoken messages from God often uttered through tongues or English. The prophecy will reveal God’s divine will for you or others. Prophecy is the unfolding and revealing of revelation of future or past events. This gift does not determine that the person ministering in this area is a Prophet. The gift of prophecy is a gift that God can use anyone in. When giving a Prophetic message the Words may come out through tongues or English, however, God will make it plain so the word will have meaning and be understood. The Gift of Discerning of Spirits A gift of the Holy Spirit, which enables a person to judge whether one person speaks in tongues, or performs miracles or minister is doing so by the Power of God or by a false spirit, which is called familiar. To judge things that are operating in it’s proper place. Understanding the realm of demonic force and how they operate is helpful when discerning. Remember; the enemy’s job is to hold you hostage Mathew 12:28-29 But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you. Or else how can one enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? And then he will spoil his house.

The Gift of Divers Kinds of Tongues & Interpretation of tongues Tongues are the ability to speak in a language unknown and unlearned to you. To speak in tongues is a supernatural gift of the Holy Spirit. The ability to interpret what is spoken in tongue is revealed by the Spirit of God. When there is a need to interpret what God is saying to the church or the believer, He will reveal it to one with the gift of interpretation. That person will stand and speak out what the Lord is saying. Sometimes they will repeat what was said in tongues and then interpret. All tongues are not interpretive. In other words, there is no need to interpret everything. When there is a need, God will use whosoever He will to get His Word out, or else it will be unfruitful. The gift of tongues is used during prayer, praise & worship, intercession, and singing Spiritual songs. The scripture states there are times when we don’t know what to pray for as we ought and the Spirit itself will make intercessions with groaning. 52

List your Spiritual gifts, listing your strongest gift first List the gifts you’ve never flowed in. Then ask the Lord for them

Chapter VIII The Weapons of our Warfare “Strong men in the Bible” I Samuel 28:7-9 7 Then Saul said to his servants “Find me a woman who is a medium, that I may go to her and inquire of her.” And his servants said to him, “In fact, there is a woman who is a medium at En Dor.” 8 So Saul disguised himself and put on other clothes, and he went, and two men with him; and they came to the woman by night. And he said, “Please conduct a séance for me, and bring up for me the one I shall name to you.” 9 Then the woman said to him, “Look, you know what Saul has done, how he has cut off the mediums and the Spirits from the land. Why then do you lay a snare for my life, to cause me to die?” Numbers 5:14-16 14 If the spirit of jealousy comes upon him and he becomes jealous of his wife, who has defiled herself; or if the spirit of jealousy comes upon him and he becomes jealous of his wife, although she has not defiled herself 15 Then the man shall bring his wife to the priest. He shall bring the offering required for her, one-tenth of an ephah of barley meal; he shall pour no oil on it and put no frankincense on it, because it is a grain offering of jealousy, an offering for remembering, for bringing iniquity to remembrance. 16 And the priest shall bring her near, and set her before the LORD. Song of Solomon 8:6 6 Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm; for love is as strong as death, Jealousy as cruel as the grave; its flames are flames of fire, a most vehement flame. I Kings 22:21-23 21 “Then a spirit came forward and stood before the LORD, and said, ‘I will persuade him.’ 22 “The LORD said to him, ‘In what way?’ So he said, ‘I will go out and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his Prophets.’ And the LORD said, ‘you shall persuade him, and also prevail. Go out and do so.’ 23 “Therefore look! The LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these Prophets of yours, and the LORD has declared disaster against you.” II Chronicles 18:21-22 21 “So he said, ‘I will go out and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his Prophets.’ And the LORD said, ‘You shall persuade him and also prevail; go out and do so.’ 22 “Therefore look! The LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of these Prophets of yours, and the LORD has declared disaster against you.” Isaiah 19:14 4 The LORD has mingled a perverse spirit in her midst; and they have caused Egypt to err in all her work, as a drunken man staggers in his vomit. Isaiah 61:3 3 To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.” 53

Mark 9:25 25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it: Deaf and dumb spirit, I command you, come out of him and enter him no more!” Revelations 18:2 2 And he cried mightily with a loud voice, saying, “Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and has become a dwelling place of demons, a prison for every foul spirit, and a cage for every unclean and hated bird! Luke 4:33 33 Now in the synagogue there was a man who had a spirit of an unclean devil. And he cried out with a loud voice, Luke 13:11 11 And behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bent over and could in no way raise herself up. Acts 16:16 16 Now it happened, as we went to prayer, that a certain slave girl possessed with a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much profit by fortune-telling. Romans 8:15 15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the (Spirit of adoption) by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” I Timothy 4:1-5 1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of devils, 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, 3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. 4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving; 5 For it is sanctified by the Word of God and prayer. II Timothy 1:7 7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of Power and of love and of a sound mind. I John 4:1-3 1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false Prophets have gone out into the world. 2 By this you know the Spirit of God: Every Spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, 3 And every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world. I John 4:6-7 6 We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error. 7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. Leviticus 19:31 31 Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits; do not seek after them, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God. 54

There are other Spiritual things listed in the scripture that we need to be aware of. These are here for your knowledge and understanding. The strongman listed in the Bible are listed as “The Spirit Of”, they are in bold and underlined. There are many manifestations of the strongman; some are listed here while there are many others. As a Minister we need to be careful to bind the strongman and not the manifestation. (Strongman bind, rebuke the manifestation). Some of the manifestations are listed and underline for easy reference. Take this information in prayer and fasting before the Lord and He will help you to understand it better. II Corinthians 10:4-6 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

Once the proper spirit is bound then we can loose the blessing of the Lord into a person’s life. Remember always Minister love, for we are adopted into the fellowship of the beloved. They are then made free from what has bound them or held them hostage. As a Minister we will learn how to properly bind and loose the enemy of our souls. Rebuke, is to express sharp, stern disapproval of; reprove; reprimand. The enemy is a squatter, trespasser and a violator; don’t allow him to possess your property nor the property of others. Always take Authority over him and cast him where he belongs, in outer darkness. Understand who you are in Christ and don’t walk in fear, doubt or unbelief. The enemy knows when you are not sure of yourself during ministry. God has given us Power over all unclean spirits and over all the works of the devil.

Binding and Loosing Matthew 16:19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

Bind 1. To fasten or secure with a band or bond.

2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8.

To fasten around; fix in place by girding: To tie up (anything, as sheaves of grain). To cause to cohere: Ice bound the soil. To unite by any legal or moral tie: to be bound by a contract. To hold to a particular state, place, etc To place under obligation or compulsion, to hinder or restrain Law. To put under legal obligation.

Loose 1. 2. 3. 4.

Free or released from fastening or attachment: a loose end. Free from anything that binds or restrains, unfettered: Not bound together: Not put up in a package or other container:

The scripture teaches us that Jesus gave us the Authority to bind and looses the works of the devil. He lets us know we have Power over all the works of the devil and nothing shall harm us. In the previous chapter we talked about the various spirits that the enemy can loose to frustrate the plan of God for your life. It is our duty through prayer, and intercession, and the laying on of hands using the weapons made available to us to Bind or Loose the works of the devil. Here are some spiritual weapons ∗ Speaking The Word & Singing the Word ∗ Praise & Worship ∗ Prayer ∗ Clapping Hands & Dancing with the Spirit ∗ Waving Hands & Shout with a loud voice ∗ Speaking In Other Tongues ∗ Anointing With Oil ∗ Hugs (Showing Love)

Chapter IX Ministry at the Altar Daniel 5:14 I have even heard of thee, that the spirit of the gods is in thee, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom is found in thee. 56

The ministry at the altar is a vital part of ministry today. Through this ministry people will be healed, set-free, and delivered by the Power of God with your assistance. Training is most important for ministering effectively. Training always offers a better understanding and will enhance your growth and develop a Spirit of Excellence. Daniel 3:6 Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent Spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.

Fulfilling the call of God is always gratifying. When we flow under the Power of God, we become one with Him in the Spirit. When you minister at the altar you work first hand with others. Such as, Pastors, Evangelist, Leaders and others, but most of all they work first hand with souls (person who is receiving ministry). God’s love radiates through us, as our hearts are sensitive and compassionate towards others. The joy and reward of this ministry is seeing people free and saved walking in the Power of God. Please be prayerful and attentive as you go through this lesson. An additional manual was written to assist Ministers for the Altar. Please feel free to purchase that manual for training in this area. The role of the Minister is a very important position in the church. It is a position that assists the Pastors and other visiting Ministers at the altar. The position requires interacting with people during prayer, salvation, deliverance, healing and while accepting new members into the church. The persons assisting at the altar must have a full understanding of the roles and responsibilities of this ministry. While coming in contact with (person-receiving ministry) always be sensitive to the Spirit. Ministers must have a keen eye and a relationship with the Lord as well as their Pastor. While ministering with your Pastor you must know their heart and style of ministry. You must be attentive and know the gestures or sign language sometimes use during ministry. Also being ready and able to conform to the styles and techniques of other visiting Ministers. It is important that the Minister be saved, filled with the Holy Spirit and set aside for the work of the ministry. There are called positions (By God) and then there are appointed positions such as a Minister. The Pastor or responsible Leaders of the church chooses Ministers. Understanding the role of salvation is important, there will be times you will minister salvation before or after ministry at the altar. This is important for the continual work of deliverance. 57

http://www.pdf4free.com

The Power of God is magnified during ministry and is a good time for that person to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, if they are not already filled with the Spirit of God. Matthew 12: 43- 45: When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.

Unfortunately, time will not always permit this to happen. So, it is important for us to cover them in prayer. It is always good to give report to the Pastor so they can continue to minister to the person or assign someone to keep them in prayer. If that person is not a member of a church, asked them if it’s okay to contact them later. Get their information and keep them on your prayer list and follow-up later. Ministers are servant, ready, able and willing to serve the Body of Christ.

Why We Lay Hands Mark 5:23 And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live. Mark 16:18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. Acts 8:19 Saying, Give me also this Power, that on whomsoever I lay hands; he may receive the Holy Ghost. Acts 28:8 And it came to pass, that the Father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him.

The scripture teaches us that Jesus has given us Power to lay hands on the sick and they shall recover. All throughout the Bible, Old & New, it teaches us about the laying on of hands by the Priest. “Now are we Kings & Priest, unto God”. Lying on of hands is an impartation of faith, Power, healing or deliverance etc.

58

It is the empowering and imparting of the Holy Spirit from one believer to another. The laying on of hands is a point of contact, (1) one it allows the person-receiving ministry to feel the Power of God, (2) Two it allows the person praying to feel the need of that person (revealed by the Holy Spirit). Remember the yoke is destroyed because of the anointing. Here’s a brief list of the reasons for why we lay hands: To set aside for the work of the ministry Ordination (Fivefold Ministry) Healing, Deliverance To destroy yokes, break the Power of the enemy over ones life Impartation of gifts (The Holy Spirit) Anointing with oil Prayer Transferring of Mantle or Position

Chapter X

Intercession, Kingdom Ministry The Bible talks about how God looked for someone to stand in the gap and to make intercession on behalf of the people. Abraham was one of the first intercessors, who interceded on behalf of Sodom and Gomorrah. An intercessor is a person who forgets about him or her and concentrates on someone else to pray for him or her. Intercession is the act of petitioning God or praying on behalf of another person or group or situation other than for you. We are here because someone else prayed for us. Once we step in front of someone to pray, we become intercessors, where we set ourselves in agreement with them that they will receive deliverance or healing. It is important that as a Minister of the Altar you have a prayer life and a relationship with God. Prayer is the weapon we use to defeat the enemy of our souls. Ezekiel 22: 30 And I sought for a man among them that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it but I found none.

Isaiah 53:12 Therefore, will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong, because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressor; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. Romans 8:26-27 26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities for we know not what we should pray for as we ought but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groaning which cannot be uttered. 27 And he searched the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

Becoming an intercessor removes selfish desires and causes you to become sensitive to the needs of others. Prayer keeps your heart and mind pure before God. We must go behind the veil to see what the Lord is saying for our lives as well as the lives of those we are ministering too. Intercession cleanses and purifies your Spirit to keep you an open channel before God. Pray without ceasing

Ministering to the Hurting & the Lost II Corinthians 5:18-19 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the Word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God. For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

This is the call of God, to minister to those who are hurting. We are not to walk in judgment, but to share the love of God to those we come in contact with. We have Good News to share; there is hope for the hopeless. Joy does come in the morning; we can do all things through Christ. Share this joy, always be willing to pray and share your testimony with others. The greatest ministry is to win souls for Jesus. While we are on our daily walk look for open opportunities to pray for someone who may be lost. When ministering to hurting people be sensitive to the Spirit. Never assume you know the depth of their hurt. A lot of hurt is surrounded by unforgiveness and bitterness. Ministering love to them destroys that yoke. Get them to see the importance of forgiving the one who hurt them. Forgiveness is a gift you give to an undeserving person. Isn't that what Jesus did for us. He died and forgave us for our sins and we didn't deserve it. 60

He covers us and keeps us through the shedding of His blood. It's time to forgive. I know they are hurting but forgiveness gives you a release. A burst of healing will flow through the Body as forgiveness cleanses the soul. There may be times when ministering to the hurting you may recognize the need for counseling. If you're not certified and authorized in this area, please refer them to a qualified source. Remember the Jack, you can't do it all by your self. There are times healing comes through just having a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on, a hug even uplifting words. Always be reminded that the Lord is able to heal a wounded and broken spirit. Healing starts at the time of hurt, but there is a process to receive what's already yours. These are the times they need that comfort and encouragement from you. Faith always brings about wholeness. When their faith falls short connect your faith and believe for them until they can believe for themselves. May the peace of God keep your hearts and mind through Christ Jesus? Galatians 6:1-2 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the Spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

Street Ministry & Evangelism Luke 14:23 And the lord said unto the servant. Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled

Pulpit ministry is not for everyone; there are some with the call of Evangelism that enjoys street ministry. This is good, but we are all called to evangelize. Sometimes we think this is a pauper's ministry and we look down on it. This is the great commission given by Jesus to every believer. We must take the Gospel to the streets. The war is on and it is time for the believers to come out of the four walls of comfort. Begin to minister to the hurting souls on the streets, prisons, shelter and other places. The shocking news is that there are some people who will never enter a church unless by casket. It is your responsibility to go where they are. This is the Gospel we preach Jesus Loves You. When going forward in street evangelism try to meet for some warm up classes. Make sure the team is on one accord.

It's important that the people on the outside see unity at all times. Stick to the Gospel; you're there for salvation and not your doctrinal beliefs. Refrain from talking on the subjects of gifts, tongues, and women in ministry, etc. things that cause a debate. The big weapon the unbeliever uses as to why they don't attend church is, “I don't have anything to wear” or there are "Hypocrites in the church". Explain to them where else are they going to go (smile). Let them know that their purpose for going to church will be concerning their soul and their walk with the Lord. Let the Lord deal with the hypocrites, maybe we all have walked that road once in our life. Let them know in spite of what they think the church is still a good place. It’s not about the clothes you wear, or the state that you're in. You can never get yourself ready for church. That's the church’s job. As you come to church the church will prepare you. Inform them to wear what they have, the church have a come, as you are policy. When you're meeting with the team discuss the type of attire you'll be wearing. You don't want to overdress. Never carry a big Bible; use a pocket size one. If they see the big Bible they will be on the offensive before you say anything. Don't be so deep and spiritual when talking with them remember you were once a sinner too. They don't need to be reminded about the state they are in. Minister life, joy, peace, and happiness; the unbeliever's impression of us is that we are not happy with our salvation. Christianity they say, is boring, that’s a lie from the pit. So make sure you're smiling. Always use a tracking pad to get information about the people you witness to. Don't start writing the moment you start witnessing or walk up to someone and say what's your name. Introduce yourself and make them feel comfortable with you first. Then ask permission "is it okay if I write down your name", explain to them the reason you're doing this. Your church is witnessing in this neighborhood and we want to keep the names on our prayer list. Is it okay for me to pray for you? Wait for their response, if they so no, it's okay God know them, just put the pad away to prevent them from feeling uncomfortable and continue witnessing. Learn different strategies and techniques for street evangelism. It's a great joy out there on the streets. Once you start you'll see the advantage and benefits of street evangelism. Talk to them on a level that they can understand. You don't have to use broken English or street slang or cliché but try to relate to them. 62

Sharing your testimony can be a good tool to use in street ministry, especially if you walked in the same area. Don't be afraid to share if you feel comfortable with the person you are talking to. Getting them to allow you to come again is a big plus. Never try to do it in one setting; remember the Word of God said one plant, another water, and then God gets the increase. You might be watering a seed that was already planted and you don't want to drown it out. Be sensitive to the Spirit, it’s the Holy Spirit that draws us to come to him.

Visiting The Sick (Laying hands & Anointing with oil) Mark 16:18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover

The scripture teaches us that Jesus has given us Power to lay hands on the sick and they will recover. All throughout the Bible (Old & New) it teaches us about the laying on of hands by the Priest. "Now are we Kings & Priest unto God". Laying on of hands is an impartation of faith, Power, healing, and deliverance, etc. It is the empowering and imparting of the Holy Spirit from one believer to another. The laying on of hands is a point of contact. It allows the person-receiving ministry to feel the Power of God. Through the Holy Spirit, it allows the person praying to feel the needs of the one receiving prayer. Healing is the children's bread (Matt 15:26). It is a commandment of Jesus to the Apostles (Markl6: 18). Jesus affirms his teachings on healing by explaining to his disciples, who were to be Apostles, healing the afflicted were by faith. The anointing of oil is a point of contact representing the Holy Spirit and the Power of God to heal, set free, and deliver. This will become a regular practice of ministry for you. You'll learn to become comfortable anointing with oil and laying hands. Your faith will connect with the person you're praying for and you'll see signs and wonders. According to the scripture there will be times when people will call you for prayer (if their be any sick among you, call for the Elders of the church). There will be specific instructions from your Pastor as to how this will be done. Usually they will send you out in groups. It is never good to go alone. Remember you're not the Lone-Ranger. You need all the help you can get when you're going out to pray for someone.

When visiting the sick in the hospital, remember that rest is important to them and that their maybe other sick people in their room. Be brief and quiet; don’t wear them out with a lot of questions about their illness. This may be a sensitive area. Allow them the time to share and then ask them just don’t assume what their needs are. Ask them before departing do you want me to pray for you. Always follow the instructions of your Pastor or Leadership. Mark 5:23 And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live. Acts 28:8 And it came to pass, that the Father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him. Luke 9:40-41 Therefore, we believe that healing by faith in God has scriptural support and is the will of God. John 1:2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. James 5:14-16 14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the Elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: 15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. 16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

Chapter X1 Conferences, Retreats, Workshops These are big engagements for you so don’t take them lightly. Much preparation is needed for these occasions. If you see you’re unable to put the time in necessary to do a good job, then don’t except the engagement. This is not something you can just throw together on the way in your car. Much time should be spent in prayer and fasting for a Word from the Lord. When you’re considered for one of these types of events, it’s because through prayer and meetings, your name came up. Someone felt you were the one for the job. Be honored and represent well. Make sure you get all the information: Date, Time, Location, Transportation, Name of contact person Theme or Subject they want to address, is the service time sensitive

Microphone, Teaching supplies, Packet Preparation Cost (you) Cost (assistant), Number of People attending Food Preparation (If you’re on a special diet with special needs) Accommodations for you and your assistant (will there be a fee) Honorarium (If you a certain amount please make it known) There may be a few other things I may have left out, but these are the basics. I know you may be questioning some of them, but believe me, these are necessary questions. If you’re familiar with the ordinances of the ministry where you are speaking, some of these questions may not be necessary for you. I remember doing a weekend retreat and I never made a special request for a certain amount of money. I still don’t. I went on this retreat and I paid my assistant’s way because I needed the help. The Spirit of the Lord moved without restraints; I mean we had a time in the Lord. Boy! I was worn-out. My clothes were all sweaty and dirty and ready to be placed in the cleaners for round two. When I got home and checked my offering, I didn’t have enough money to put my clothes in the cleaners. You see why these things are important; I was gone away from my family the whole weekend and had to take one of our vehicles for transportation. Then coming home with empty hands, I’ll say it again, “sometimes we work for less than minimum wages”. Also, when preparing for these types of services and any other service where someone has given you a theme, please focus on this area; much time and prayer has gone into this process. Have you ever experienced being on a committee and spending hours of prayer and time to come up with a Theme and a speaker for your conference, youth day, or revival, etc. Get all excited about the move of God and just how you know you’re going to be blessed. Then the speaker comes in and preaches, and says nothing regarding your theme? Doesn’t that get to you? I remember having a “Youth Revival”, (now I highlighted that because our young people were hungry and they were seeking more of God). They were on the edge of their seat, waiting for the Holy Spirit to just hit them in the face. (Smile) I mean they were ready. The young man took the podium and when he opened his mouth, the Holy Spirit hit me in the face. (Smile). You see I didn’t seek the Lord and ask him whom to invite to the service. I remember hearing this young man at another church and he was on fire. What I didn’t know was that he had gone away to Bible College.

I’m not saying this was bad to get an education, but, he had lost the anointing somewhere along the way. He had become intellectual. Even I needed a dictionary to understand what he was saying. Sadly to say, our young people were disappointed. I apologized to them and the Lord. Then, I ran home and got right on my face in prayer. The Lord revealed the name of a young lady. The next day I gave her a call. It was not necessary to reveal to her what had happened. I didn’t want to discredit the young man, because I knew God wasn’t finished with him yet. She accepted the engagement. Oh my goodness! The Spirit of the Lord swept the house. The young people were slain in the Spirit. Some were laughing, rolling, and prophesying all over the place. Their hearts and souls were revived, as God is faithful to do just what He said. I told you that little story so you can see the importance of being faithful to the people who call you. Seek the Lord and He will never guide you astray.

Preparing a Profile or Bibliography When going out to minister there will be times when a church or ministry will request a resume. They want to know something about you. Who are you? Where did you come from? And what’s your educational background? Where did you get your credentials? They want to know who’s your Pastor and your church affiliation. All these things are to determine if you’re qualified for the service they want you to render. Integrity and character will take you forward in ministry. Your resume or bibliography will show your stability and relationships with your church and Pastor. Just like when we are seeking employment; they want to know if you’re qualified for the job. They request a resume to see your history and educational background. A cover letter is what they read first; this tells them a little about you before they read the heart of your resume. When applying for a job, you’re selling yourself or presenting yourself and nobody can do this like you. Take time to write out a bibliography of your self and Ministry

Schedule & Business Cards If you have a secretary who does your scheduling, make sure you allow them to do their job. If you’re asked to speak and your secretary is not with you, inform them to contact your secretary. This will cut out confusion and double assignments. If you use two (2) calendars for instance your calendar and the secretary’s calendar, make sure you have them both visible and up to date before posting new engagements.

If you accept an engagement, then receive a call for the same date; you should decline the other offer. There are times when this could be an opportunity for someone else. If you know of someone you feel confident in, ask if you can suggest that person. This will show your level of growth and the people will still be blessed. You’re not superman or woman; this can cause confusion and place a stigma on your ministry. All engagements are important no matter the size. When selecting business cards, select clear, easy to read cards. Don’t make a card congested with too much information or graphics. Make the card user friendly. Scripture, name phone number, e-mail address, contact person, and the name of ministry or the church. Use a white card for easy reading. But the choice is yours; you have so much to choose from now so let your imagination flow.

Chapter XII “Benedictions” • • • •

An utterance of good wishes, to speak well of. The form of blessings pronounced by officiating Ministers at the close of service. A ceremony by which things are set aside for sacred uses, as a church, vestments, etc. advantage conferred by blessing; a mercy or benefit A service consisting of prayers, at least one prescribed hymn, censing of the congregation and the Host, and a blessing of the congregation by moving in the form of a cross the ciborium or monstrance containing the host.

Benedictions, I saved this one for last. Benediction simply means blessings. Blessings are given in the form of benedictions at the close of the service. You release the people of God by speaking blessings over their lives. We should never enter a service without expectation or just for form or fashion. It is always a blessing to be in the presence of the Lord. As the minister you have the opportunity to select from all the wonderful blessings in the Bible and speak them over the people as they depart from the sanctuary. 67

There’s one benediction traditionally used to dismiss Sunday School that I would like to review with you. You know the one, “May the Lord watch.” taken from Genesis 31: 44-49. Let’s take a look at this scripture and view the history behind this particular benediction. Gen 31: 44-49 44 Now therefore come thou, let us make a covenant, I and thou; and let it be for a witness between me and thee. 45 And Jacob took a stone, and set it up for a pillar. 46 And Jacob said unto his brethren, Gather stones; and they took stones, and made an heap: and they did eat there upon the heap. 47 And Laban called it Jegarsahadutha: but Jacob called it Galeed. 48 And Laban said, This heap is a witness between me and thee this day. Therefore was the name of it called Galeed; 49 And Mizpah; for he said, The LORD watch between me and thee, when we are absent one from another.

This benediction stemmed from a lack of trust between the two. Remember how Jacob was tricked into marrying Leah when he wanted Rachel? He had to work additional years to get the woman he wanted. Then when the Lord blessed him at Laban’s house, Laban got angry. Then when Jacob was released to leave, Rachel took her Father’s image. Laban was angry and went after Jacob. When he found him, he confronted Jacob and said you already have everything that was special to me. How could you have taken my image too? Then he went to search the camp for it, but Rachel hid it in the camel’s furniture and sat on it. Laban didn’t know Rachel was the one who took his statue; he thought Jacob had taken it. Their whole relationship was surrounded by distrust, so why did he ask God to watch between them? In other words, God, you watch my back. They didn’t view each other as brothers but felt betrayal. So they made a covenant with each other and said, “Now may the Lord watch between me and thee, while we’re absent, one from another”. Here are some blessings taken from the scriptures Psalms 19:14 14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer. Numbers 6: 24-6 24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: 25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: 26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.

Amen. Ephesians 3:20-21 20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the Power that worketh in us, 21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end.
