John 14:12-14 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

Publisher’s Introduction II Timothy2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. II Peter 1:10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: Colossians 1: 10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; II Thessalonians 2: 12 That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory. Ephesians 4: 1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, I was called to the ministry of the Gospel in 1979, under the leadership of Elder Lassiter Basket, pastor of the Tree of Life Church. Ministry has been my life. The Outreach and Training has been the thrust of my call. I desire to see the Body of Christ operate with a Spirit of Excellence. As the Founder and Pastor of New Hope Temple of Praise, Inc. I wanted to be assured that the ministry team was trained and equipped to minister to the souls of people. We set up training classes and Bible study class became a School of Ministry. We taught Pastors, Teachers, Evangelist, Missionaries and various other positions in the body of Christ. I felt that Leadership was a reflection of the Pastor. I wanted to be represented well. The Bible teaches us that God is not the author of confusion. That’s exactly what happens with unlearned and untrained leadership operating at the altar chaos and confusion.

Preface It is my desire to teach and train leadership to be firmly equipped while fulfilling the ministry of the Gospel. It is my hopes that this lesson will enhance your growth and bring enlightenment to the area of the Altar Worker. You might be thinking the last thing we need is another how-to manual. I know there are many other books on ministry. However, I know that this teaching has come from the heart of God. As we minister to the souls of the people, we want to do it with excellence. There are so many hurts and issues in our world today. The people we sit next to on our jobs, in our churches, even on the bus are dealing with things in their lives they can’t seem to get pass. Rejection, abandonment and abuse surround us everyday. People are looking for a way out. They need a touch that will bring them into safety. Love grows colder and yet we must move on with our lives. The cry goes out “How can I make it through another day”? “When will the day come that I will truly be free”? I hear the cry of the people and as I watch them go to the altar for prayer. Going up one-way and returning to there seats the same way. I feel the hurt and pain inside. Just one touch of the Master’s hands would make everything okay. I would say, “Is their anyone anointed out there to pray” Romans 8: 22-23 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
Someone is waiting on you, The Altar Worker, to come and lay hands on their situation, their hurt and pain. Yes, and their new strength they will regain. Rising afresh in the newness of life, jumping, shouting, and singing giving praise to the Master. Rejoicing in joy, even with laughter. The reward is great when the people come in contact with a trained “Altar Worker”.

Purpose The purpose of this manual is to provide the Churches and Ministries with information and a practical working guide to assist them in training their Altar Workers. Ephesians 4: 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ: That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

Chapter 1 THE MINISTRY OF AN ALTAR WORKER This lesson was prepared for the purpose of training Altar Workers. It is in no wise an attempt to offend one’s belief in ministry or how they were taught to minister. It is a prepared booklet with some visual aid to assist or enhance your ministry as an Altar Worker. This lesson will review some do’s and don’t while assisting and working at the altar. This lesson will help the Ministers as well as the Altar Worker in developing a successful ministry. The ministry of an Altar Worker is vital for ministry today. Through this ministry people will be healed, set-free and delivered by the power of God, with your assistance. Training is most important for ministering effectively. Training always offers a better understanding and will enhance your growth and develop a spirit of excellence. Daniel 3:6 Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm. Daniel 5:14 I have even heard of thee, that the spirit of the gods is in thee, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom is found in thee.
Fulfilling the call of God is always gratifying. When we flow under the power of God, we become one with Him in the Spirit. An Altar Worker works first hand with Pastors, Evangelist, Leaders and others. Most of all they work first hand with souls (person who is receiving ministry). God’s love radiates through us, as our hearts are sensitive and compassionate towards others. The joy and reward of this ministry is seeing people free and saved walking in the power of God. Please be prayerful and attentive as you go through this lesson. Please feel free to ask or make any statements, which will enhance and bring a better understanding to this lesson. Once you have completed this training, your Pastor will set aside a time to discuss this area of ministry with you. Arrangements will be made to set you aside with the anointing of oil, and the laying on of hands as an Altar Worker.

At that time you will be consecrated to work in this area of ministry with your church. This will also allow you to minister in and outside of the church as the Pastor sees fit. Please follow leadership concerning your days and times of ministry.
Requirements The requirements of the Altar Worker are: (Rules and guidelines will vary from Church to Church). Please follow the instructions of your Leadership ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Saved and filled with the Holy Spirit Living a life acceptable to the Lord A faithful and committed tithes paying member of a church Has a life of prayer and intercession One who is sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit One who has a spirit of submission and follows leadership One who understands and know the principles of salvation One who is willing to work and go beyond their call of duty
The role of the Altar Worker is a very important position in the church. It is a position that assists the Pastor and other visiting Ministers at the altar. The position requires interacting with people during prayer, salvation, deliverance, healing and while accepting new members into the church. The persons assisting at the altar must have a full understanding of the roles and responsibilities of this ministry. While coming in contact with (person-receiving ministry) always be sensitive to the Spirit. Altar Workers must have a keen eye and a relationship with the Lord as well as their Pastor. While ministering with your pastor you must know their heart and style of ministry. You must be attentive and know the gestures or sign language sometimes use during ministry. Also being ready and able to conform to the styles and techniques of other visiting Ministers. It is important that the Altar Worker be saved, filled with the Holy Spirit and set aside for the work of the ministry. There are called positions (By God) and then there are appointed positions such as an Altar Worker. The Pastor or responsible leaders of the church chooses Altar Workers. Understanding the role of salvation is important, there will be times you will minister salvation before or after ministry at the altar. This is important for the continual work of deliverance. 9

The power of God is magnified during ministry and is a good time for that person to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, if they are not already filled with the Spirit of God. Matthew 12: 43- 45: When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.
Unfortunately, time will not always permit this to happen. So, it is important for us to cover them in prayer. It is always good to give report to the Pastor so they can continue to minister to the person or assign someone to keep them in prayer. If that person is not a member of a church, asked them if it’s okay to contact them later. Get their information and keep them on your prayer list and follow-up later. As an Altar Worker you are a servant, ready, able and willing to serve the body of Christ.
Dress Code
The attire of the altar worker is an important part of this ministry. Always check with leadership for the times they may want you to wear a specific color. Never wear loud or boisterous color, which will draw attention to you. One should be appropriately dressed to minister at the altar. If you are a female, your dress or skirt should have adequate length and not to tight. Splits should not be above the knee. Make sure your cleavage is not too deep. Proper undergarments are to be worn. The Altar Worker is required to do a lot of bending and moving around. For this cause, clothing should be loose fitting to allow you enough room to move around. If your Pastors allows pants, they should be loose fitting, if you are wearing a shell or blouse make sure it’s long enough to cover your back while bending, preferably an over blouse should be worn.
10

http://www.pdf4free.com
Shoes should have a moderate heel to prevent falling; one can lose balance catching a falling individual. Always practice safety, there have been occasions where people have been stepped on at the altar, by others and even by the altar worker. Please be mindful that you verify the dress code before visiting other churches and ministries. Men’s pants should be proper fitting and not tight. Pants should not sag and belt or suspenders worn if needed. Proper undergarments should be worn. All loose change should be removed from your pocket and any other item that could fall out. Please be aware that cell phones and pagers can be a distraction at the altar. Make sure if you must carry one that it is on vibrate. But, remember if you get close to someone while ministering and it goes off it can be very alarming to the one being ministered to. Please assure that jewelry and badges are attached properly.
Time and Place For Ministry Time is important; if you are unable to stay for the duration of the service, inform the Pastor or leader of this. When you are able to stay for the service, you will flow more effectively because you have heard the word. You are more in tune with the Spirit because you have witnessed how the Spirit is moving. Once you’re ready to go to the altar and you have children, make sure they are taken care of. It is important that you’re free to serve without distraction. If at any time you’re unable to minister due to time, attitude, health, spiritual positioning etc., please inform your leader. We understand that there are times when you are not able to minister due to personal issues. Don’t be afraid to admit this and inform your leader. ASAP (Always Stop And Pray) prayer is the key to effective ministry. Understanding the weapons of our warfare are not carnal. Always keep an attitude of prayer and praise this will confuse the enemy.

Chapter 2 Line Calls Whenever there’s a line called for prayer your responsibility is to make sure the line flows and everyone gets prayer and proper coverage is provided. Make sure you keep room between the line and the one getting ministered to, this allows free flow. Keep the awaiting congregation praying and with lifting hands as long as you can. This is not a cheese line where you’re waiting to get your portion. God can move in the line without hands being laid on an individual. People tend to become dependent on that point of contact, which cause them to just stand and wait. We want to keep the excitement before and after they get prayer. Keep the praise going and the anticipation thriving so that the ministry will be easy for the one who is ministering. Sometimes the leader will lay hands on the one in front and the anointing flows straight to the back. Just be prayerful and encourage receptivity and praise, God will do the rest. Once the altar is crowded on the floor pivot the person to prevent them from lying on top of each other. Also if possible move them around to another area. Sometimes you got to move back and forward as the altar frees up. Always keep up with the one who is ministering they may move all around the sanctuary in and out of the line. Follow the flow.
Ushers vs. Altar Workers Ushers are important and valuable in the Body of Christ and the Church. An “Usher” is a server in the body. They are escorts and watchers; they serve the pastors and visiting ministers. In a sense they are altar workers, but there’s a difference when a person is wounded and coming to the altar for prayer and healing they aren’t looking for this to come from the usher, but from the ministers of God.
12
PDF Creator - PDF4Free v2.0
http://www.pdf4free.com
In most churches you will find that ushers will assist at the altar. This is okay as long as they are properly trained for this work. It is important that you use altar workers verses an usher at the altar because as the altar work continues the ushers are still needed to keep the flow and be watchful during service; also to attend to the pulpit and congregation.
Corporate Altar Calls During times of corporate altar calls the altar workers should surround the altar to be available as needed. While the minister is praying, your role will be intercession and coverage. Whenever there’s a need for additional ministering, you move in and assist as needed. Please be mindful of your surroundings and the proper protocol for the ministry. There may be times when you see a need, but because of the setting you will not be able to minister freely. This is when intercession covers that individual and God will bless through prayer and we trust that at the appropriate time, God will allow that person to be in a setting where they can be properly ministered too. Be watchful to prevent those who may become overwhelmed in the Spirit and fall on someone causing a domino effect. There may be instances where you may be asked to anoint before prayer at the altar. This is not the time for you to pray for everyone you anoint. You just anoint them in Jesus name and move on to the next. If you are told to move forward and minister at the altar, whenever possible minister two by two. One praying and the other cover and move through the altar in this manner rotating prayer. Please allow God to use the one He desires; what I mean is that if the anointing is flowing on your partner to pray then continue to cover and let them pray. We are a team player and this is not the time for you to show off how anointed you are or to score points with the leader. The altar is all about the souls, pleasing God and allowing the anointing to work.

Don’t Break Rank It is important to remember when ministering at the altar to stay in your position. We must always watch as well as pray. Whenever possible minister two by two, this is good to cover one another. The Bible says one can chase a thousand and two can put ten thousand to flight. When you are ministering your focus is on the pastor or (minister). Keep your focus and yet be aware of your surroundings, but never leave an individual to go to attend to another unless directed to do so. We must understand the strategy of the enemy he is crafty and do not want to see us free. When you leave an individual you break rank and thereby leaving the person-receiving ministry and the minister uncovered. Once you start the flow to assist and begin to intercede on that persons behalf and you stop to go to another person you have changed the flow. When you are ministering at the altar you must know your other team members and who else is available to assist. Allow them to move in if they are not covering someone. You must always avoid unqualified or unauthorized assistance. There will be time when people will come from the congregation to assist, unless you know they have been authorized to assist, politely inform them that you have this covered and thanks for your concern. Allowing unauthorized people to assist can change the flow of the Spirit at the altar. This does not mean that they are not qualified or anointed, but God uses people at different times and at different levels and we must always remember to honor the head of the house. Remember your gift will make room for you. Just because you see and just because you think you know, “You are out of order if you move ahead of God and the Shepard of the house”
Group Ministries Group ministries are times when the altar calls are made and there are a group of ministers praying individually for people. The people will sometimes kneel if there is an altar and if not they will stand around the altar. It’s important that you not spend a lot of time on an individual but, be sensitive to the Holy Spirit and cover the need of the person. 14
PDF Creator - PDF4Free v2.0
http://www.pdf4free.com
Remember this is not a race to see who can pray for the most people. We must be effective even if we only pray for one. I would rather see one soul delivered then to tease and run through the group.
Chapter 3 Distractions Distractions are things that bring attention to someone or something other than the Word of God or the person-receiving ministry. It is important that we are never apart of distraction. The Altar Worker shouldn’t be chewing gum or eating candy while assisting at the altar. This is a major distraction. Even something as small as a mint can fall out of your mouth while ministering. Also if the person comes to the altar to receive ministry with candy or gum in their mouth ask them politely to place in a tissue. While the person is receiving ministry, it is safer if their mouth is empty. Explain to them if necessary that you want all attention to go to the Lord and for them to freely give God praise. Be aware that some jewelry can be a distraction and make sure that glasses are safely secure or placed aside. Please be careful of the person’s belonging and make sure that they’re not broken during ministry. Because of the times we are living in, ladies wear a lot of hair weaves, wigs and extensions, be mindful not to pull or tug on them. To prevent embarrassment, assist them if their hairpiece gets loosened or is falling out. Insure that they are intact before they return to their seat. (Fix clothing, hair, wipe face, give back glasses, jewelry etc.) The more we make the person feel comfortable the better they will receive ministry. Always be mindful to assist the person getting up from the floor. There are times when it may appear that someone is ready to get up, but are still in the Spirit. Never force someone from the floor as God is dealing with them, allow them time to receive and regroup. My theory is that if you need to pull them from the floor without their assistance then they are not ready. Many times God is performing surgery on that individual, let God be God. 15

Here’s a brief list of some things that can bring distraction: Ψ Talking or whispering to others during ministry Ψ Chewing gum, eating candy or mints Ψ Pulling, tugging on the person being ministered too Ψ Laughing and joking at the altar Ψ Fanning the person while they are still in the Spirit Ψ Laying hands too heavily upon the person Ψ Pouring too much oil on the person (runs into their eyes, contact lenses, face and onto their clothing) Ψ Pulling the person from the floor before they are ready Ψ Children and loved ones, Please handle carefully, the loved ones of the one getting ministry. Sometimes the children or others don’t understand what’s happening and become fearful. They try to pull and tug on them to make sure they are okay. Remove them from the altar if possible before hand. Ψ Multiple ministries. Sometimes there are times when there is a crowd at the altar. It is important to keep the focus on the one getting ministered too Ψ Noise, it is so important to have a praying church while ministry is going on. We are in the habit of being spectators
when we should be
worshipping and praying, even the choir could be singing or musicians can play softly if asked to. This will prevent the enemy from coming in and the ministry at the altar will be more successful.
How should I handle the person getting ministry
At no time should (a person receiving ministry) be ministered to without assistance. There may be times when you feel “oh they’re not going to fall” and the Spirit of God move softly yet swiftly and that person falls to the floor without assistance. I know it has been said, “Well if they are in the Spirit, they won’t get hurt”. But the times we are living in churches have been sued because of this. 16

How do I catch a person? Appropriate posture for catching will be demonstrated for you. First and foremost you should always handle someone gently. Remembering to protect your back by bending your knees as you lower them to the floor. Please be mindful of the feelings of heavier people. It is not appropriate to run and get a chair because of someone’s weight. You are still able to catch this person with the assistance of another worker and this to will be demonstrated for you. (Okay to ask if they desire to sit down) If you are ministering alone and someone heavier than you is receiving ministry; brace your body against that person and place one leg behind and prop them. This will keep them from falling. The appropriate way to catch a full figured person have two (2) Altar Workers stand directly behind them as close as they can with their hands clamped around the wrist. Try not to hold hands this is not secure sometimes the hands will easily come loose with the pressure of weight. By holding on to the wrist you have more strength. Attempt to keep them standing, this is sometimes possible by pressing your body against them and bracing them, but if this is not possible then with your hands clamped around the wrist and your other hand gripping the other side arms gently lower them to the floor bending your knees to protect your back. Practice with each other during this training class. Don’t allow the altar to become crammed as you are placing people on the floor; pivot them as to prevent them from laying on top of each other. Concerning the men catching women and women catching men, this will vary from church to church. Please be aware of this as you travel. As for me, I have no problem with it as long as it is properly done. Always make sure you refrain from touching people inappropriately. Your arms and hands should be clear of any forbidden areas. Even if you’re ministering, be mindful as to not touch areas forbidden; ask for assistance from the appropriate gender.

Why We Lay Hands Mark 5:23 And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live. Mark 16:18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. Acts 8:19 Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands; he may receive the Holy Ghost. Acts 28:8 And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him. The scripture teaches us that Jesus has given us power to lay hands on the sick and they shall recover. All throughout the Bible, Old & New, it teaches us about the laying on of hands by the Priest. “Now are we Kings & Priest unto God”. To lay hands is an impartation of faith, power, healing or deliverance etc. It is the empowering and imparting of the Holy Spirit from one believer to another. The laying on of hands is a point of contact, (1) one it allows the person-receiving ministry to feel the power of God, (2) two it allows the person praying to feel the need of that person (revealed by the Holy Spirit). Remember the yoke is destroyed because of thee anointing. Here’s a brief list of the reasons why we lay hands: To set aside for the work of the ministry Ordination (Fivefold Ministry) Healing, Deliverance To destroy yokes, break the power of the enemy over ones life Impartation of gifts (The Holy Spirit) & Transferring of Mantle or Position Anointing with oil & Prayer

Chapter 4 The Gifts of the Spirit and how they work at the altar I Corinthians. 12:1-12 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant: 2 You know that you were Gentiles, carried away to these dumb idols, however you were led. 3 Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit. 4 There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: 8 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophesy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one (person-receiving ministry) as He wills. 12 For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. These are the gifts of the Spirit, which operate through and by the person who is ministering at the altar as well as the Altar Worker. The Altar Worker should know the gifts of God that flows through them. Many times when we are called to ministry and we don’t fully understand these gifts. Sometimes God will challenge us in new areas to help develop us in that gift. The gifts of God are for the ministry of the church. They build up and heal and bring us closer to the Lord. We will attempt to explain these gifts briefly and how they operate at the altar. For the sake of time we will not be able to deal with every aspect of the ministry, but you should continue to explore the gifts so as to bring a better understanding to you.

The Word of Wisdom Wisdom is the quality or state of being wise. The word of wisdom is a supernatural revelation by the Spirit of God concerning the divine purpose in the heart and will of God. The word of wisdom speaks of future events concerning people, places, or things. The ability to judge correctly and to follow the best course of action based on knowledge and understanding. Wisdom is the ability to use the knowledge given to you by the Holy Spirit coupled with discernment. The wisdom of God will instruct you how to minister in a way beneficial to the person. Example: While Ministering at the altar the Lord reveals to you something personal about the (person-receiving ministry). How would you rely the information (openly or privately)? The wisdom of God will instruct you which way is beneficial to the person. Wisdom will reveal hurts, events, unforgiveness or things that may affect a person’s future. Some things you can’t say openly. To promote healing God will inform you to say it to the person once you are in private or whisper in their ears. The Word of Knowledge The word of knowledge is a supernatural revelation by the Spirit of God concerning facts in the heart of God, concerning people, places, or things. The word of Knowledge will reveal things of the past and present. The word of knowledge is the knowing the truth or facts that a person acquires either through experience, teaching, by inspiration, or revelation. The state of knowing something or perception of the fact or truth revealed. Knowledge is the information given to you by the Holy Spirit and the Wisdom is the “How to apply what you know”. Wisdom and knowledge will always work together. Example: The Holy Spirit reveals the sickness or the situation that the person is going through. Then the wisdom of God takes over and tells you how to handle it. Do we pray, get others to pray, give instructions, lay hands, or not lay hands etc. Wisdom and knowledge will always work together.

The Gift of Faith Now faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. (Hebrew 11:1). Faith is the ability to believe God when there is nothing visible. Faith is what the believer holds on to when there’s nothing in their hands. Faith operates through all parties involved in ministry. The word tells us that God has dealt to every man the measure of Faith. What He is saying is that everyone even the sinner has the ability to believe in God. The gift of faith is different in that the faith level is intensified. The person walking in the gift of faith receives the supernatural ability to believe God for the impossible. Example: The person getting prayer is in a situation, which seems there’s no way out. The Altar Worker with the gift of faith believes there’s nothing to hard for the Lord. They connect their faith supernaturally with (personreceiving ministry) and pray the prayer of faith and believe that the Lord will bring them out. This gift also works supernaturally with the gift of healing and miracles. The Gift of Healing Healing is the deliverance from sickness, infirmities, sin, death, situations, problems etc. It is God’s ability to bring us out of whatever we are going through. Healing promotes health, life, joy and happiness to the believer’s life. The Bible tells us that healing is the children’s bread. Jesus bore the stripes on Calvary that we all might be healed. Never just assume the type of healing that’s needed by an individual just because of appearance. What you see may not be what they need. I will explain this. God is able to heal every area of our lives not just physically, but spiritually and financially. Example: The person at the altar request prayer for healing of sickness, disease or stress etc. The Minister prays the prayer of faith and believes God to supernaturally heal that (person-receiving ministry). Sometimes healing comes instantly while others may be a process, but through it all God always gives the victory. As an Altar Worker we should never get caught up with just instant healing, but always explain to the person getting prayer that they are healed now, even if they don’t see it. This is where faith comes in on both your parts. Sometimes as an Altar Worker you don’t see anything, this does not mean it didn’t happen. We walk by faith and not by sight.

The Gift of Working of Miracles Miracles are the supernatural intervention of God. Miracles can only be preformed by the power of God through the Holy Spirit. Miracles are the manifestation of God. It is an extraordinary event or supernatural cause, which can only be considered a work of God. All healings are not miracles, whereas some are. Example: Restoration or replacement of an absent limb, or body part, the opening of the eyes of the blind, the awakening or prevention of death etc… are miracles. Miracles are being performed everyday; many times the person walking in this gift have experienced a miracle. The Gift of Prophecy Prediction about the future or end-times, spoken messages from God often uttered through tongues or English. The prophecy will reveal God’s divine will for them or others. Prophecy is the unfolding and revealing of revelation of future or pass events. The out come of or things to be. This gift does not determine that the person ministering in this area is a Prophet. This is the gift of prophecy which God can use anyone with this gift. However, there is an Office of a Prophet, which we can discuss during this teaching. Example: The person that is receiving ministry, God himself wants to unfold some events for this (person-receiving ministry) to better understand the will of God. Or what God has in store for them, or to confirm things, which may have already been spoken or revealed. So he will use this gift and allow the Minister to speak into the (personreceiving ministry)’s life the things which He desires to share with them. The word may come through tongues or English, however God will make it plain so the word will have meaning and be understood. This promotes joy, restoration and even healing to the person and rejuvenates which gives them added strength to go on.

The Gift of Discerning of Spirits A gift of the Holy Spirit, which enables a person to judge whether one who speaks in tongues, or performs miracles, ministers is doing so by the Power of God or by a false spirit which is called the familiar. The discernment is the ability to see which spirit is operating with and in a (person-receiving ministry). Discernment is when you understand the realm of the demonic forces and how they operate. Remember their job is to hold the person captive. Matthew 12:28-29 But if I cast our devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you. 29 Or else how can one enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? And then he will spoil his house.
Example: This special gift allows the minister to discern the spirit, which is operating at the time of ministry. If deliverance is needed, the Holy Spirit will reveal which strongman is holding the person captive. We must know and understand the spirit, which is holding the personreceiving ministry in order to bring about total healing and deliverance. The Gift of Divers Kinds of Tongues & Interpretation of Tongues Tongues are the ability to speak in a language unknown or unlearned to you. To speak in tongues is a supernatural gift of the Holy Spirit. The ability to interpret what is spoken in tongue is revealed by the Spirit of God. When there is a need to interpret what God is saying to the church or to the believer He will reveal it to one with the gift to interpret. That person will stand and give that word. Sometimes, they will repeat what was said in tongues and then interpret. All tongues are not interpretive, in other words there is no need to interpret everything. When there is a need, God will use whosoever He will to get his word out, or else it will be unfruitful. Example: The person-receiving ministry is going through something unknown to you (the Altar Worker), and you begin to pray in an unknown tongue. That prayer goes straight to God and makes the intercession on the person’s behalf.

There is no need for an interpreter because God knows what was said, now if He chooses to make it known to the person at the altar he will do so. Sometimes the prayer will quicken in that person-receiving ministry and they will receive it in their spirit and you will see them rejoice. Here’s a listing of some of the strong men listed in the Bible Leviticus 19:31 Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits; do not seek after them, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God. I Samuel 28:7-9 7 Then Saul said to his servants “Find me a woman who is a medium, that I may go to her and inquire of her.” And his servants said to him, “In fact, there is a woman who is a medium at En Dor.” 8 So Saul disguised himself and put on other clothes, and he went, and two men with him; and they came to the woman by night. And he said, “Please conduct a séance for me, and bring up for me the one I shall name to you.” 9 Then the woman said to him, “Look, you know what Saul has done, how he has cut off the mediums and the spirits from the land. Why then do you lay a snare for my life, to cause me to die?” Numbers 5:14-16 14 If the spirit of jealousy comes upon him and he becomes jealous of his wife, who has defiled herself; or if the spirit of jealousy comes upon him and he becomes jealous of his wife, although she has not defiled herself 15 Then the man shall bring his wife to the priest. He shall bring the offering required for her, one-tenth of an ephah of barley meal; he shall pour no oil on it and put no frankincense on it, because it is a grain offering of jealousy, an offering for remembering, for bringing iniquity to remembrance. 16 And the priest shall bring her near, and set her before the LORD. Song of Solomon 8:6 Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm; for love is as strong as death, Jealousy as cruel as the grave; its flames are flames of fire, a most vehement flame. I Kings 22:21-23 “Then a spirit came forward and stood before the LORD, and said, ‘I will persuade him.’ “The LORD said to him, ‘In what way?’ So he said, ‘I will go out and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ And the LORD said, ‘you shall persuade him, and also prevail. Go out and do so.’ 24

“Therefore look! The LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these prophets of yours, and the LORD has declared disaster against you.” II Chronicles 18:21-22 “So he said, ‘I will go out and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ And the LORD said, ‘You shall persuade him and also prevail; go out and do so.’ “Therefore look! The LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of these prophets of yours, and the LORD has declared disaster against you.” Isaiah 19:14 4 The LORD has mingled a perverse spirit in her midst; and they have caused Egypt to err in all her work, as a drunken man staggers in his vomit. Isaiah 61:3 To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.” Mark 9:25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it: Deaf and dumb spirit, I command you, come out of him and enter him no more!” Revelations 18:2 And he cried mightily with a loud voice, saying, “Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and has become a dwelling place of demons, a prison for every foul spirit, and a cage for every unclean and hated bird! Luke 4:33 Now in the synagogue there was a man who had a spirit of an unclean demon. And he cried out with a loud voice, Luke 13:11 And behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bent over and could in no way raise herself up. Acts 16:16 Now it happened, as we went to prayer, that a certain slave girl possessed with a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much profit by fortune-telling. 25

Romans 8:15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the (Spirit of adoption) by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” I Timothy 4:1-5 1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, 3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. 4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving; 5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. II Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. I John 4:1-3 1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, 3 And every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world. I John 4:6-7 We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error. Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. There are other things listed in the scripture that we need to be aware of. These are here for your knowledge and understanding as an Altar Worker. The strongman listed in the Bible are listed as “The Spirit Of”, they are in bold and underlined.

There are many manifestations of the strongman; some are listed here while there are many others. As Altar Workers we need to be careful to bind the strongman and not the manifestation. (Strongman bind, rebuke the manifestation). Some of the manifestations are listed and underline for easy reference. Take this information in prayer and fasting before the Lord and He will help you to understand it better. Once the proper spirit is bound then we can loose the blessings of the Lord into a person’s life. Remember always minister love, for we are adopted into the fellowship of the beloved. They are then made free from what has bound them or held them hostage. As a Minister or Altar Worker we will learn how to properly bind and loose the enemy of our souls. Rebuke, is to express sharp, stern disapproval of; reprove; reprimand. The enemy is a squatter, trespasser and a violator; don’t allow him to possess your property nor the property of others. Always take authority over him and cast him where he belongs, in outer darkness. Understand who you are in Christ and don’t walk in fear, doubt or unbelief. The enemy knows when you are not sure of yourself during ministry. God has given us power over all unclean spirits and over all the works of the devil. Chapter 5
Binding and Loosing Matthew 16:19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

7. 8. 9.
To place under obligation or compulsion (usually used passively) Law. To put under legal obligation To hinder or restrain
Loose 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
Free or released from fastening or attachment: a loose end. Free from anything that binds or restrains, unfettered: Not bound together: Not put up in a package or other container: Relaxed or limber in nature:
The scripture teaches us that Jesus gave us the authority to Bind and Loose the works of the devil. He lets us know we have power over all the works of the devil and nothing shall harm us. In the previous chapter we talk about the various spirits that the enemy loose to frustrate the plan of God for our lives. It is our duty through prayer and intercession and the laying on of hands using the weapons made available to us to Bind or Loose the works of the devil. II Corinthians 10:4-6 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
Here are some spiritual weapons for the Altar Worker ∗ Speaking The Word ∗ Prayer ∗ Waving Hands ∗ Singing & * Shout with a loud voice ∗ Hugs (Showing Love)
∗ Praise & Worship ∗ Clapping Hands ∗ Speaking In Other Tongues ∗ Anointing With Oil * Dancing with the Spirit
Why I Must Be An Intercessor The Bible talks about how God looked for someone to stand in the gap and to make intercession on behalf of the people. Abraham was one of the first intercessors, who interceded on behalf of Sodom and Gomorrah. 28
PDF Creator - PDF4Free v2.0
http://www.pdf4free.com
An intercessor is a person who forgets about him or her and concentrates on someone else to pray for him or her. Intercession is the act of petitioning God or praying on behalf of another person or group or situation other than for you. We are here because someone else prayed for us. Once we step behind someone to assist at the altar, we become intercessors, where we set ourselves in agreement with them that they will receive deliverance or healing. It is important that as an Altar Worker you have a prayer life and a relationship with God. Prayer is the weapon we use to defeat the enemy of our souls. Ezekiel 22: 30 And I sought for a man amoung them that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it but I found none. Isaiah 53:12 Therefore, will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong, because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressor; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. Romans 8:26-27 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities for we know not what we should pray for as we ought but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he searched the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
Becoming an intercessor removes selfish desires and causes you to become sensitive to the needs of others. Prayer keeps your heart and mind pure before God. We must go behind the veil to see what the Lord is saying for our lives as well as the lives we are ministering too. Intercession cleanses and purifies your spirit to keep you an open channel before God. Pray without ceasing. ASAP (Always Stop And Pray)
Chapter 6 Do‌
Do cover the person-receiving ministry when necessary, but only cover them with the appropriate covering. Some churches have special cloths set aside for this purpose. 29
PDF Creator - PDF4Free v2.0
http://www.pdf4free.com
Do wash your hands before when possible and after ministering, this is important to you and your family members. It is always good to carry sanitized wipes or alcohol pads for easy assess. This is always a good precaution to prevent transferring germs and bacteria and sometimes diseases and other things, which can be harmful to you and your family. Try to be conscious of keeping your hands out of your face & mouth during ministry.
Do pray for the person-receiving ministry at all times because intercession is the key. It is important that you pay attention to what is going on while the person is getting prayer. There may be a lot of other things going on in the sanctuary as well as at the altar. You must be able to discern what’s around you and yet be prayerful of the one you are standing with. Your assignment is the person in front of you. Prayer will keep you both covered.
Runners and jumpers, let them run and jump but make sure the path is clear, don’t attempt to chase them this will wear you out. Once they stop then assist them if needed.
Do show them love and don’t be afraid to embrace them after and sometimes before they get prayer. Fear is a big thing to someone needing deliverance and sometimes your hug can break that stronghold. Remember fear is false evidence appearing real, but the anointing of God can destroy that yoke. Once (person-receiving ministry) has been prayed for cover them with love this helps them to receive their healing. Always show love.

Do move any chairs or other items that might get in the way of the person needing prayer. Please remove any chairs, purses, Bibles and instruments etc. to prevent the person from getting injured during ministry.
Do rejoice with them that rejoice and help them celebrate Jesus. Don’t allow people to hold a person down while they are rejoicing. At all times make sure that person is in no harm of hurting themselves, but please allow them to be free to praise.
Chapter 7 Don’t…
Don’t eat things with strong seasoning, or garlic and onions, before service. If this is unpreventable then use Listerine or Eclipse strips (Keep track of your schedule for ministering).
Don’t fan a person who is in the Spirit, unless over heated or directed to do so.
To the ministering person, don’t lay your hands on the personreceiving ministry so heavy. If you are forcing ones head to go backwards your hands are too heavy. A person could have injuries in the neck, back and other areas, which you can cause harm by the use of heavy hands. Don’t force a person to fall they could hurt themselves. If they are not falling under God’s power but falling under your power. (Heavy hands). 31

http://www.pdf4free.com
Don’t lay hands on the person getting ministry unless informed to. Even placing your hands on their (person-receiving ministry) back can distract them. Make sure you follow the leadership of the primary person Ministering.
Remember while ministering at the altar that we are not playing football and we are not to tackle people. When a group is praying for one person it is most important to be sensitive and listen to who is praying and what they are addressing. We should be binding and loosing the same thing. Not one rebuking, one saying come out the other saying I bind you. This is most confusing not only to the person-receiving ministry but even to the demons. Believe it or not they don’t know if they should come out, stay in, cease to operate or what. Be accurate when you pray. One pray while other intercedes and worship and call on the name of Jesus.
Don’t attempt to hold someone down while they are rejoicing. Allow them to freely express themselves in the dance. Instead place them in a circle if needed. This will allow them the liberty to dance and keep them out of harms way.
Don’t allow the person who was slain in the Spirit to get trampled or walked on. Sometimes, other people getting ministered to may get excited and start to jump or dance and may accidentally step on the people on the floor. Make sure you protect as well as possible all parties involved.
32
PDF Creator - PDF4Free v2.0
http://www.pdf4free.com
Don’t allow people to step over the one on the floor. Escort them around them if possible. There are demonic forces that sometimes transfer themselves from one person to another. It’s important to cover them in prayer and keep a spiritual eye on what’s going on around you? Even you as an altar worker should refrain from stepping over people on the floor.
Don’t let the person getting ministered to fall unassisted. Please make sure at all times there is someone standing behind the (personreceiving ministry) getting prayer. We never know when they may fall. As we cover them in prayer we can protect their safety as well. This is a good place for the enemy to cause harm, which can bring fear the next time the person gets prayer.
Etc. Don’t ever attempt to remove a person from his or her medical device. Once they receive their miracle allow them to get out of the chair or put their device aside. Coach them through this process with wisdom.
Don’t ever attempt to administer medical treatment. If during anytime, a person appears to be in distress have someone call 911. Notify the Pastor or leader have someone sit with the person never leave them alone. Keep the person conscious and comfortable as possible until medics arrive. It is okay to ask them are you okay, do you want us to call 911 or a family member, but of course use your judgment. Now, Do administer CPR, Heimlich maneuver or Mouth-to-Mouth Resuscitation only if you have been properly trained. (Remember ASAP Always Stop and Pray)
33
PDF Creator - PDF4Free v2.0
http://www.pdf4free.com
As a rule we don’t administer medication. This is a very dangerous thing to give someone prescription medication. It is okay to pass them their purse but allow them to get their own medication if able to. Now in the case of Heart and Diabetic medication, check for ID bracelets or Nitro-Glycogen or Insulin and assist them if needed. (Please notify pastor or leader and call 911 before you attempt to give this drug)
Don’t ever attempt to give someone lying down something to drink. If they need something to drink, make sure they are in a sitting position and is conscience and aware of what they are drinking.
Don’t allow a person to soak in condemnation, guilt or shame while they are receiving ministry. Sometimes, these individuals will cover their faces and cry and refuse to remove their hands. Minister God’s love to them and encourage them to praise the Lord. Remember, Jesus is the healer and His love covers a multitude of sin.
Don’t allow the atmosphere or individuals to distract the preacher when the Word is going forth. It is the enemies plan to bring distraction to the house of God. He will use various things to do this. For example people shouting out loud, dancing in front of the preacher, babies crying, children running and talking etc. All these things cause distraction and must be stopped. Prayerfully approach them and quietly escort them to another area of the sanctuary if possible. Remember, as an Altar Worker, you are a minister of the house of God.
Don’t lift or carry a person that is slain in the Spirit. When the time is right they will get up on their own, assist them if necessary. Allow the person to connect with God; interrupting them can cause confusion. This is an important time for them; allow the Holy Spirit to complete the work He starts. Lifting them from the floor to soon can stop the process. Never allow anyone other than another Altar Worker to assist you at the Altar. 34
PDF Creator - PDF4Free v2.0
http://www.pdf4free.com
This is important because you were trained and they may not be. An untrained person working at the altar can cause hurt, harm and confusion. Pulling someone from the floor before time can break the connection with God and also cause injury and additional hurts in areas you may not be aware of.
Don’t interrupt someone in the Spirit to pass him or her a tissue, napkin or handkerchief. Sometimes that person is in a place in God they have never been. Giving them that tissue can remove them from His presence. Sometimes the Lord is breaking someone and that person needs to cry. Allow them that time and when you see them coming back to themselves give them the napkin or leave it with the person next to them and explain to give it to them later.
Never cover an individual with someone else clothing (coats, jackets, scarf etc). This is bad for both parties. Remember, there are demonic forces waiting to transfer themselves one to another. There also can be germs, allergies, bacteria etc. we must protect others as well as ourselves at all times.
