MADISON FFA CHAPTER BBQ OCT. 4

The Madison FFA Chapter will hold their annual Chapter BBQ on Friday, Oct. 4, at 6 p.m., in the school cafeteria. It will be donation-based, and the menu will include pulled pork, baked beans, dessert, various side dishes, and tea and lemonade will be served.

MADISON BUSINESS GROUP MEETING

The Madison Area Business Association will hold their October meeting on Monday, Oct. 7, not Sunday, Oct. 6, as originally scheduled. The meeting will be held at the Madison Area Community Center and will begin at 6:30 p.m.

FLORIDA CEMETERY WALK OCT. 5

Florida Cemetery Walk, Florida, just off of Highway 107 Saturday, Oct. 5, from 2-4 p.m. Volunteers play the roles of the dearly departed who are buried in the Florida Cemetery. Hear about the lives of Mark Twain relatives. Come visit with Elizabeth Powers Damrell who attended Jane Clemens at the birth of her little boy Samuel Clemens later known as Mark Twain. There is no charge and refreshments available. Sponsored by the Friends of Florida.

BARNETT FAMILY TO PERFORM IN PERRY

The Barnett Family from Stanton, Tenn., will be sharing their music ministry at Living Water Ministries, 1235 E Main, Perry. The public is invited to join them on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m., and again on Sunday, Oct. 6, at 10:30 a.m.

CANS NEEDED FOR CHRISTMAS IS CARING

Aluminum cans are needed for Christmas Is Caring. Please drop the cans off at the home of Phyllis Barton, 327 W. Monroe and drop off next to shed. The cans will be used to help purchase toys for the annual Christmas Is Caring program.

SANTA FE CHRISTIAN CHURCH SALAD SUPPER

The weather did not cooperate with the 2013 Fall-In-To Paris - rain did FallIn-To Paris. The Paris Area Chamber of Commerce in concert with numerous city merchants and individuals sponsored the Tenth Annual Fall-In-To Paris, on Saturday, Sept. 28, and the event, while rain shortened, was described by chamber members and visitors alike as a success. The annual event featured a morning parade that was well attended as local residents and children lined the parade route greeting the parade entrants with all the children waiting in anticipation of the parade candy. The Extreme 5K Run, which is basically a 5K run or walk combined with obstacles that included a mud pit, a slip-n-slide, hay bales, culvert crawl and other obstacles sprinkled was run on what racers described as a “tough, hilly course.” Race winners included: Men’s Division: 1st place, Shawn Geralds; 2nd place, Ben Holland; 3rd place, Derek Calhoon. Women’s Division: 1st place, Kelsey Landis; 2nd place, Beth Sander; 3rd place, Sara Watson. The favorite area of the day without a doubt was the train and bounce house in concert with the talent show and en-

tertainment. This year’s entertainment was the Bob Hope Troupe Show. The group received a rousing hand of applause after their World War II Show. Unfortunately, their Vietnam Era Show was cancelled due to the weather. This year was another successful talent contest spearheaded by Chamber Board Member Glenn Turner. Winners of the

On Sunday, Sept. 15, the Santa Fe Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, Santa Fe, held their 175th Anniversary Celebration. Approximately 280 people attended the day long celebration. Approximately 75 Christian goody bags were given out to children and teens. The noon meal included pulled pork sandwiches, hash brown casserole, green beans, lettuce salad and sheet cakes. The church booklet included much of the history of the church. Santa Fe Christian Church was organized on June 17, 1838. They met in homes, log buildings and the school

house. In 1855 the present church was built. Activities during the day included the skits such as Wise Men Still Seek Him, God is Good All the Time, If We Used our Bibles like we use Our Cell Phones, plus some advice from the Duck Dynasty Clan. Entertainment was provided by the adult choir, the teen choir and the children’s choir. Loyella Littrell Patterson, (age 96), was recognized as their longest member joining Oct. 16, 1938. Juanita Willingham, their second longest member,

talent contest, that inspired and awed the judges and the crowd were: 1st – Taylor Ross; 2nd – James Preston; 3rd – Andre Mitchell; and 4th – Samantha Campbell. Food vendors for Fall-In-To Paris served a variety of scrumptious foods for everyone including beef, pork, brats, hot dogs, fried potatoes, soups, sandwiches, homemade pies, walking tacos, ice cream, cotton candy, popcorn, and drinks. The onsite vendors were numerous and attended by an appreciative crowd. There was indeed something for everyone. The Monroe County Democratic Committee held their annual successful Country Ham Breakfast, in the Senior Citizen’s Center. The Little Toot Express Train and Bounce House, sponsored by the chamber for four hours, which allowed area residents to use them for free, was a huge success and a youth magnet as witnessed by the long lines at the “train station.” In other activities:

Santa Fe Christian Church celebrates 175th Anniversary

joined Oct. 1943. Kathy Snyder travelled the longest distance of 300 miles. Zack Baker (age 8), son of John and Dallas Baker, is their youngest member. Membership is currently 178 members. Previous Pastor Jan Anderton spoke of memories at Santa Fe Christian Church and letters were read from Pastor Bob Turpin and Joyce Goe Harold, a member of the church living in California. After the closing hymn “It Is Well with My Soul” their current Pastor, Kenny Sharp, closed the program in prayer.

The women of Santa Fe Christian Church invite you to their second ladies’ salad supper on Monday, Oct. 14, at 6 p.m. Penny Fairman will present the program on her mission trip to Ghana, Africa with a group from the Church of God Holiness, in March 2013. Penny is a cousin of Susan Duncan, Connie Curtis, Renee Bridgeman and Cheryl Shatzer.
