Blow Cancer Away signature fundraiser this Saturday, at Paris High School Gym The Monroe County Cancer Supporters will hold their fourth annual “Blow Cancer Away” signature fundraising banquet this Saturday, March 7, at the Paris R-II Schools, High School Cafeteria, Paris. Doors will open at 5 p.m., and the serving of the banquet meal will begin at 6 p.m. Neither reservations nor tickets are needed; a voluntary donation will be accepted for the meal. The fun has already begun with the advance sale of drawing tickets: Drawing items include a 50 inch flat screen LCD television, a 1/2 beef – already processed, and a new Apple iPad Air. Drawing tickets are available from any Cancer Supporter member, and they can be purchased at the banquet. Many great items, large and small, have been donated for a silent auction. These items can be viewed and bids placed before and during the banquet. After the meal the excitement level gets even higher as the live auction will get underway. Auction items include many handmade specialty pieces. The Monroe County Cancer Supporters was organized in December 2009, to provide support to Monroe County residents and their families who are dealing with the financial, emotional, and physical burdens of a cancer diagnosis. As a 501(c)3 charity the Cancer Supporters provide money and services to Monroe County individuals last year. Funded by generous donations and the proceeds of last year’s successful “Blow Cancer Away” event, this direct, monetary assistance slightly lightens the load on our cancer patients, and, maybe just as important, it tells them their friends and neighbors

If the cook of the house is sick preparation of a few meals can be a big help. Maybe a leaky faucet needs fixing, or the grass needs to be mowed. Maybe transportation to the sometimes daily treatments becomes

impossible to the family. Or what if, adding insult to injury, on top of being scared and sick a lady’s self esteem is shattered by the loss of her hair. Cancer Supporters maintains a list of volunteers for nearly every imaginable need - transportation, meal preparation, house and yard work, and so on. They also offer wigs and head coverings for use by patients. The many business and individual
