Monroe County Cancer Supporters raises over $47,000
The Monroe County Cancer Supporters were looking to “Blow Cancer Away” with their 5th Annual Blow Cancer Away fundraiser and found themselves in a tornado as they raised over $47,000+ for their cause. Approximately 650+ people braved the weather and showed up for the yearly event, this year held in Paris, at the Paris High School. “One hundred percent of the proceeds raised tonight goes directly to your Monroe County neighbors, friends and family affected by cancer,” said MCCS President John Turner to the assembled. On hand to help were members of the Paris FFA, and the Paris Patriots 4-H Club who served drinks, helped people to their seats and helped clean up after the event. The annual signature fundraiser was held in Paris, on Saturday, March 7. The event featured a wonderful meal prepared by Madison Area Community Betterment (Lynn Duvall and crew) and included ham, cheesy potatoes, green beans, corn, Cole Slaw, rolls, numerous choices for desserts and drinks. The meal cost was a free-will donation. There were numerous items that were available through both a silent and live auction, with auctioneers Justin Edwards and Anthony Peoples and ably assisted by Jerry Arends, and lots of information about how an attendee can help fight cancer in Monroe County including Relay for Life, Susan G. Komen, Ellis-Fischel Cancer Center, James E. Cary Cancer Center, GetLoveGiveLove (Lauren Vanlandingham), and Barking Butterfly Bakery. To help defray the costs of the banquet MCCS obtained sponsorships. There are five levels of sponsorship – Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze and Honorable mention. Sponsors names were used in event advertising and appeared on banners at the event and were used in thank
