Pastor Donna Scott
In just a few days Paris Christian Church pastor Donna Scott will give her last sermon as she plans to retire after 21 years serving God as a church leader. Scott was raised in Moberly but her family relocated to Florida when she was a junior in high school. There, in Sarasota, Florida she met the love of her life – Jim. “We were seniors together,” said Scott. “We graduated in June and were married in September.” Jim and Donna celebrated 52 years of wedded bliss on Tuesday, September 23. Jim and Donna have three girls, Patricia, Nancy and Sandy and six grandchildren. Donna worked as a secretary and as a child abuse ad litem (for 10 years) but always knew she had a higher calling. “I always felt a calling,” said Scott. “I felt that there was more that God wanted me to do as I was already doing everything I could in my congregation.” Scott traveled to Missouri for an assembly and when she was there she felt drawn more than ever to that calling. When returning home she discussed it with Jim who was very supportive. Scott served at two churches in Florida both (Disciple of Christ) Christian Churches and then came to Paris.
Scott explained the process she had to go through to apply for positions including filling out a profile. She noted that the church headquarters also filled out a profile. These profiles are combined and sent out to churches looking for a pastor. It so happened that the Paris congregation was in search of a pastor and Scott interviewed twice here in Paris. “We were fortunate we had lots of frequent flier miles and I used them to come here and interview,” noted Pastor Scott. After the second interview Scott was given the position here in Paris and she has been pastor since July 2007 and Sunday, September 28 will be her last sermon. “I knew when I looked at the church from the back that this was ‘it’,” said Pastor Scott. “With God’s help and the peoples’ attitudes we healed our church. Today the love and caring of people in the church is obvious.” Scott attended the Missouri School of Religion in Jefferson City. Pastor Scott proudly noted that 79 people have joined the church either by transfer or are first time members. She also noted that there have been 30 baptisms during her tenure as pastor. Now that retirement is almost See Pastor... Continued on page 4

Mt. Airy Donates To Monroe County Cancer Supporters..
Mt. Airy Baptist Church recently held a Fish Fry fundraiser on September 17. The fish fry is usually a youth fundraiser but at the present time no money was needed by the youth so according to Elder Blanton Engle, a group of church members met and the idea was broached about donating the money to the Monroe County Cancer Supporters as a church member was battling cancer. “We were familiar with the group and it was a quick decision and we hope it does some good,” said Mt. Airy Pastor Bob Cavanaugh. The church donated $1,079 to MCCS after the fundraiser.
