Paris Rural Fire Department visits R-II Elementary School for Fire Prevention Week
The Xi Beta Xi sponsored Halloween Parade will be held on Friday. October 31, beginning at 4 p.m., the Monroe County Courthouse and continuing up and down Main Street to visit local businesses.
ARTIFACT SHOW TO BE HELD OCT. 11
North East Missouri Archaeological Society Artifact Show will be held on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Setup from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Share your collection of Indian artifacts and enjoy the company of other collectors. SANTA FE CHRISTIAN CHURCH SALAD SUPPER
The Santa Fe Christian Church Women will be holding their annual Salad Supper on Sunday, Oct. 12, at 6 p.m., in their Fellowship Hall. Everyone is invited to come enjoy the meal and to enjoy Barbara Zastrow’s program on her trip to Israel.

PTSA Pony League basketball games will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2014 beginning at 9 a.m. Silent auction and concession stand will be available.
COUNTY FAIR BOARD TO MEET
The annual meeting of the Monroe County Fall Festival, Inc (Fairboard) will meet Thursday, October 16, at 7 p.m., at the Paris High School Ag Building. All interested community members are welcome and encouraged to attend. This meeting is open to the public.
Fire Prevention Week - October 5-11...
The Paris Rural Fire Department visited the Paris Elementary School to give a presentation to preschool through second grade. Participating firemen and fire officials included, left to right, Cy Fields, Jake Allison, Chief Steve Jones, Lt. Jamie Ebbesmeyer, Quentin Ashenfelter, Fire Marshal Eddie Barton and Lt. Eric Heitmeyer.
In only a matter of minutes, a small house fire can rage out of control. Heat temperatures from the building fire can reach up to 1,500°F. The flames emit carbon monoxide gas, which is odorless, colorless and tasteless – and can cause immediate unconsciousness, followed by death. Every family should have and practice a home escape plan to follow in the event of a fire. The plan should include draw-
ing a diagram of your home, marking the locations of windows and doors; planning two escape routes out of every room of your home; setting up a meeting place outside of the home for everyone to go following an escape; and practicing the escape plan once a month. Annual Halloween Walk at Mark Twain Lake The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is proud to announce the return of the Annual Halloween Walk on both Friday, October 17 from 6-9 p.m. and Saturday, October 18 from 4-9 p.m.This is a great chance for the little ones to “sharpen their trick-or-treating skills” or for the older ones to come see what all the excitement is about. Everyone is invited to come in costume and don’t forget your flashlight! The Fox and Eagle Point loops will be closed to all vehicle traffic during event hours. In order to provide a safe experience for participants and visitors you are asked to leave your pets at home. The Mark Twain Lake Chamber of
Commerce will be charging an admission fee of $5.00 per vehicle for each night of the event to help provide park visitor safety services for the event and other incidental expenses related to the event. Only registered campers who have paid a camping fee and show their correlating white hang tag will be exempt from this charge. The charge will not be taken at the fee booth but rather at the entrance to the East Campground, where the event takes place. Having exact change upon approaching the event will help expedite wait time and reduce long lines at the entry point. The M.W. Boudreaux Memorial
Visitor Center at the south end of Cannon Dam will be closed October 17-19 in order for staff members to work at the Halloween event. The Indian Creek Campground is located south of Monroe City. Take Highway 24 to State Road HH. Follow the signs to spooky fun! All reservable campsites have been reserved but nonreservable sites will be available on a first-come-first-serve basis in person only.
