XI BETA XI HALLOWEEN PARADE OCTOBER 31

The Xi Beta Xi sponsored Halloween Parade will be held on Friday. October 31, beginning at 4 p.m., the Monroe County Courthouse and continuing up and down Main Street to visit local businesses.

PONY LEAGUE GAMES OCTOBER 18

PTSA Pony League basketball games will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2014 beginning at 9 a.m. Silent auction and concession stand will be available.

HOLLIDAY BLOOD DRIVE OCTOBER 28

Holliday C-2 will hold a Red Cross Blood Drive on Tuesday, October 28, from 3-7 p.m., at the school. The event is sponsored by the Fab 4 Kids.

PARIS CHRISTIAN LORD’S ACRE SALE

Paris First Christian Church Lord’s Acre Sale and Dinner Sunday, October 26. Serving roast beef and gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, slaw, hot rolls, dessert, and drinks from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Adults $8, 5-12 $3, under 5 free. The youth will be helping with the dinner. Country Store and Auction will begin at 1 p.m.

PARIS HALLOWEEN WALK OCT. 24, 25

The Paris Halloween Walk will take place at the Paris Fairgrounds, October 24, 25, from 5-10 p.m. Bring the children in costume and Trick or Treat the Decorated Campground! Concession stand will have hot dogs, hot chocolate, coffee and cookies. This event is a fundraiser for Jacquie’s Barn sponsored by the Mark Twain and Paris Patriots 4-H Clubs. Donations welcome.

National School Bus Safety Week scheduled for October 20-24 In Missouri they use an 8-light school bus warning system. These lights are located on the front and the rear of the bus near the top where you see the words “SCHOOL BUS”. The lamps are used to warn other traffic about what the school bus is doing. When the bus is approaching a loading or unloading area, the yellow lights will flash. Red lights will flash when the bus is stopped to load or unload students and a stop arm will be extended from the side of the bus. This system was adopted because it closely follows other traffic regulations. The alternately flashing yellow lights mean “CAUTION” to other motorists because the bus is preparing to stop. The flashing red lights and stop arm mean “STOP”. Motorists are required, by law, to stop for a school bus displaying red flashing lights and stop arm. Please help school bus drivers keep your children safe. Always yield to a school bus and the precious cargo they transport. Another lighting issue they, as drivers, would like you to consider is your HEADLIGHTS. It is a fearful thing to a School Bus Driver to have a vehicle pop out of the fog, dusk or dawn, rain, when the sun is shining in your eyes or any other times when visibility is less than perfect with NO headlights on. You are not as visible as you can be with your headlights on. The quicker you see another vehicle the quicker you can drive defensively if the need should arise. Please use your headlights every time you get into your car, but especially when the visibility is reduced; and also let others know what you are planning to do by using your turn signals. Paris R-II FBLA inducts members into National FBLA Organization The 2014-2015 Paris R-II FBLA Chapter held their annual Member and Officer Installation on Tuesday, October 7, at 7 p.m. There were a total of 23 members inducted into the FBLA chapter; the officers were also inducted into office. The officers include President Katie Otto, Vice President Teddy Ebbesmeyer, Secretary Ben Ebbesmeyer, Treasurer Dakota

Anderson, Historian Abby Wheelan, Reporter Russell Mitchell, Parliamentarian Nic Thomas and Student Council Representative Jon Turner. The ceremony started with President Otto welcoming the group and saying the FBLA Creed and Pledge. Ally Moreland, the Paris FBLA Adviser, inducted the 2014- 2015 FBLA

officers into office. Secretary Ebbesmeyer then announced the names of all members in the chapter. After all members were announced President Otto dismissed the members and their families for refreshments. The officer team is very excited for the coming year and is looking forward to what the future has in store for them!
