County Collector Anita Dunkle announces tax bills to be mailed
Monroe County Collector Anita Dunkle recently mailed the 2014 tax bills to county residents. Dunkle reminds county residents that Missouri Law states that taxes become delinquent on Jan. 1, 2015. To avoid any late penalties being assessed, taxpayers are cautioned to obtain a postmark of no later than Dec. 31, 2014. “Check with your local post office to see when they will close this year for the holidays,” suggested the collector. Tax payments may be deposited in the black drop box located at the south door of the courthouse or by online payment until midnight, Dec. 31. Tax payments can also be made in person from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., on Monday, Dec. 31. Walk-in traffic on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2014, will be assessed penalty and interest. “Please review all receipts for correct information,” asked Collector Dunkle. Some tips from the collector’s office include: To avoid additional charges make sure checks are written for the correct amount and signed. Have current address and phone number on check Include tax bill with your payment When two or more parties are paying for a tax, all checks must come together with payment. Please notify the Collector’s Office when you have a change of address. If you received a real estate bill that should go to an Escrow Company, be sure to forward the bill on to the company. Payment by credit card is accepted

only for online payments,., They are unable to accept payment by credit or debit card in the office. Clerk Dunkle also notes some changes in this year’s statements including: “This year we did not add everyone’s tax statements together. If you receive more than one “pink” statement be sure to add the amounts, next to the “total”, to get the correct amount due. If paying AFTER DECEMBER 31, be sure to refer to the right-hand side of each bill and pay the amount due for that month. We ask you to please include your phone number on your check. The reason we like to have this information is because sometimes there is a problem
when the check and the tax amount do not agree or a check may be written incorrectly, or we may have a question about an address or what property is to be paid. A phone call to resolve these problems can help avoid additional charges if we would have to mail everything back. Also this year we have included the assessment sheets in with our tax statements to help save on postage costs. Be sure to fill out and return by March 1st to avoid penalties. If you need an assessment sheet and did not receive one with your bills be sure and call the assessor’s office at 660-327-5607.” See Tax Bills... Continued on page 8
