Pink Out Game a success
Paris R-II PTSA will hold a Mommy and Son Movie Night, on Friday, January 23, at 6:30 p.m., at the Paris Elementary School. Cost of the evening is $5.00 per family. Popcorn and other concessions will be available.
HOLLIDAY HORIZONS 4-H CLUB LUNCHEON
Holliday Horizons 4-H club is having a Winter Soup Luncheon on January 25, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Holliday School. Soup, sandwich, dessert and a drink. Free will donation will be accepted.
CITY OF PARIS OFFERING FREE GAS CONNECTIONS
Effective until March 31 the City of Paris will be offering free connections for potential natural gas customers inside the City Limits and the connection would be completed before October 15, 2015. Customers would have to agree to switch their main heating source to natural gas for three years and the customer would have to pay any costs to switch appliances and/or piping inside their home or building. “9-12 We the People of Monroe County” will meet on Thursday Jan. 29, at 7 p.m., at the Paris Public Library, in Paris. Marilyn O’Bannon will discuss an update on Grain Belt Express, 40th District Representative Jim Hansen will talk about current and future Missouri legislation, Mart Staggs will give an update on Common Core. FRIENDS OF PERRY CAROUSEL MEET JAN. 8
Friends of the Perry Carousel held its first meeting of the New Year on Thursday, January 8, at Perry City Hall. The meeting began at 6 p.m., with 12 in attendance. Topics discussed included funds, maintenance of the carousel, and storage. Several motions were passed, including the purchase of a UV ray protective film for one of the windows of the Ralls County Historical Society so that one of the carousel’s horses can be put on display. Other motions passed included purchasing a new cable for the carousel, and the decision to form an LLC for Friends of the Perry Carousel. The meeting adjourned at 8 p.m.

Sign up ends for local election
Filings ended on Tuesday, Jan. 20 to fill vacant seats on local, city and miscellaneous boards and councils. Local filings include: The Paris Board of Education has two openings – the seats of now serving board members Libby Williams and Richard Fredrick. The positions have an associated three-year term. Incumbent Libby Williams, Sue Walker, Dawn Ragsdale and Kathy Gilmore have filed for office. For the City of Paris: The terms of the Aldermen to be elected are two years. Those filings are for the following positions: One Alderman, Ward 1 – Chris Popkes One Alderman, Ward 2 – Kevin Embree City Collector is to be elected for two years Incumbents Kevin Embree and Chris Popkes have filed for office. City of Madison: The city has two Aldermen candidate openings and a mayoral position. Mayor incumbent Kathy Sasek has filed for office, as has Incumbents Nancy Meals and Hal Bennett for Alderman.
The terms of the Aldermen to be elected are two years. Holliday C-2 Board of Education: The board has two three-year term positions available. Incumbents Brent Thomas and Edith Ensor have filed for office as has Amanda (Smith) Lehenbauer and Crystal (Tony) Trivette. Village of Holliday: The council has two two-year terms to be filled. Johnny Ragsdale and Guy Callison have filed for office. Middle Grove Board of Education: The Middle Grove C-1 Board has two three-year positions available. Incumbents Nicole Bentley and Ralph Hoppe have filed for office Monroe County Nursing Home District: Sub-Districts #5 and #6 each have a three-year position open. For subdistrict #5 Dennis Kendrick has filed and for sub-district #6 Russell Wolfe has filed for office. Monroe County Health Department: The Monroe County Health Department has three trustee openings for four year terms and one opening to fulfill an
unexpired four year term this election cycle. Anita Ness, Bobby Williams and Ronnie Fields have filed for office. Rose McNally has filed for the two-year unexpired term. Madison Board of Education: The Madison C-3 Board of Education has two three-year terms available. Incumbent Tim Layton has filed for office as has Jesse E. Hartgrove, Michael Wolfe and Kris Dubbert. Monroe County Ambulance District: Positions are available for District 2 and District 4. Linda Wood has filed for District #2 and Danny Everett Eckman has filed for District #4. Paris Rural Fire Protection District: Two director positions are available each for a six-year term. Troy Vaughn and Eric Heitmeyer have filed for office. Public Water Supply District #2 – Has one opening for sub-district #1 for a threeyear term. Incumbent Neil Crain has filed for office. The last day to register to vote is March 11.
Alpha Phi sponsored Miss Paris Pageant March 20
The Alpha Phi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi is pleased to announce the 2015 Miss Paris Pageant. This year’s pageant will be held Friday, March 20, 2015, at 7:00 p.m. at the Paris High School. The theme is “80 YEARS AND COUNTING”. Alpha Phi members began recruiting contestants on Thursday, January 15. Any unmarried young ladies in grades 6 -12 that reside in the Paris or Holiday area may participate. Participants must also attend rehearsal on Wednesday, March 18 from 5-7 p.m., and sell a minimum of 10 advance tickets. On behalf of all of the members of Alpha Phi, we hope to make this a fun and memorable evening for all! If you are interested in participating, please get an information packet from Mrs. Otto at Paris High School or Mrs. Ebbesmeyer at Paris Elementary.
