A month after patients and residents started receiving therapy, Monroe Manor’s new rehabilitation addition was opened to public inspection last week. Manor administrator Shari Embree said 60 visitors braved high teen temperatures Monday afternoon and evening, Feb. 10, to tour the long-awaited complex. The consensus of the visitors regarding the new building was a positive one. Dale Donovan, Rita Wilkerson, Sandra Francis, Shirley Williams and Paul Allgood among others, all were
impressed with what they saw, and thought the Manor made the correct choice in building the therapy wing. “This is a terrific addition to the facility,” Mr. Donovan said. The Paris native, who now lives in rural Audrain County, knows the Manor well; his late father, Emmett, spent the last few years of his life, in the facility. Rita Wilkerson and Sandra Francis, Monroe County elected officials, seated on an new upholstered exercise platform, sipped coffee on the cold evening, agreed they were glad they attended the
open house, and were impressed by what they saw. Shirley Williams spent 20 years working at the Manor; after retiring she spent much time in the building, visiting her now-late mother. She said, the new complex was wonderful. “What a fantastic new building,” Mrs, Williams stated. “I’d heard it was a great room and it certainly is. And the new equipment; I’m so proud this is in our town. I almost got lost coming down the hall, everything has changed so much.”
