Golf Tournament benefits Perry Christian Church

On Saturday, Oct. 5, the Perry Christian Church hosted a golf tournament at the Vandalia Country Club. There were six teams of four people who participated in the scramble. Eighteen area sponsors each sponsored a hole for $100. Other contributors provided 60 prizes and a $10,000 prize for a hole-in-one. There was also a 50/50 raffle. In total there were 74 sponsors. All participants were provided with snacks and a meal afterward.

Dan Schappe won the prize for the golfer closest to the pin. Cheryl Oligschleager won the women’s prize for the longest drive and Kevin Hoshaw won the men’s prize for the longest drive. Golfers came from Perry, St. Louis, Hannibal and Kirksville. Prizes were given to the three teams with the highest score. In first place was the team of Clyde Oligschleager, Cheryl Oligschleager, Dan Schappe, and John Milligan. Tying for second was the team of Kevin Hoshaw, Todd Hoshaw,

Bennett Hoshaw and Jamie Tennyson and the team of Greg Ferrario, Brian Ferrario. Tim Thornhill and John DiMarin. Arlen Provancha, spokesperson for the Perry Christian Church, said that the money made from what he “hopes to be the first of an annual event” will help the church continue some of its local mission work with Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, youth activities and meal delivery in town. The Church realized an estimated $2500 profit.

N.L. FIRST BAPTIST FOOD DISTRIBUTION

The New London First Baptist Church will hold their Food Pantry on Thursday, Oct. 10, from 1-5 p.m.

PERRY FALL FESTIVAL OCT. 31

There will be a Trunk and Treat celebration in Perry, on Thursday, Oct. 31. The festival will take place in the parking lot between Taylor Tot’s 2 and NAPA, on Palmyra Street, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for Best Decorated Trunk and Best Costumes. The event is sponsored by Taylor Tots 2, Karla B’s, Perry Antique Mall, Straight to the Heart, Garden of angels and according to organizers this is just the start of the sponsor list.

LTC James Scrogin, a Perry native - promoted James D. Scrogin of Perry, Missouri was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army on Oct. 1, in a ceremony held in Kabul Afghanistan. Brigadier General Jim Blackburn, III Corps Deputy Commanding General for Separates and LTC Scrogin’s former Regimental Commander, officiated the ceremony as well as administered the Oath of Commissioned Officers. LTC Scrogin is the NATO Force Planner for Headquarters, International Security Assistance Force (ISAF). LTC Scrogin is currently serving his fourth overseas combat tour and second in Afghanistan. LTC Scrogin and his wife, Shantel Scrogin, currently make their home in Lansing, Kan., outside of Fort Leavenworth, and have two sons; Macen Daniel, age 6, and Maddox James, age 2. Family members who were able to view the ceremony through video chat included: LTC Scrogin’s wife and sons; Dan Scrogin (Father, Perry); and Joann and General Jim Blackburn, III Corps Deputy Commanding General for SepaHugh Wayman (Mother and Step-Father, Brigadier rates and LTC Scrogin’s former Regimental Commander,administers the Oath of Columbia).
