BIG TRUCK NIGHT
Ralls County Parents as Teachers will host Big Truck Night from 5 – 7 p.m. Monday, October 20, at Mark Twain High School.
ARMSE TO MEET
The Hannibal Mark Twain Chapter of the Association of Retired Missouri State Employees (ARMSE) will meet on Friday, Oct. 17, beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the Nutrition Center, 219 South Tenth Street in Hannibal. The program will be given by Stan Clark who is an accomplished musician playing the harmonica. All current and retired State employees are encouraged to attend. Reservations are not required. MTHS CLASS OF ‘99 REUNION
The Mark Twain High School class of 1999 will hold its 15th reunion, Saturday evening, Nov. 29, at the Junction Restaurant and Lounge in Perry. The main topic of discussion at the Thursday, October 9, Ralls County Commission meeting was the proposed half-cent countywide sales tax that is on the November 4 ballot. The commissioners explained that rising fuel costs, the cost of gravel and maintenance expenses for the county’s roads and bridges have necessitated more funds. Taxes will not increase if this issue is passed. The proposed sales tax will replace
the Courthouse Improvement tax that will expire on December 31, 2014. The commissioners explained that the Courthouse Improvement fund still contains surplus monies that by law can only be used for maintenance of the Courthouse. During the past year, phase 2 of Courthouse improvements was completed. This included renovation of the bell tower, a new roof and replacing all three exterior doors.
Work on two bridges, one on Wisconsin Lane and the other on Camp Creek, is scheduled to begin as soon as weather conditions allow. These repairs are under a state/federal program and require a 20% match from the county. That percentage is getting harder to come by as costs go up but revenue remains the same. There are 21 bridges

CAPITOL VISIT
RALLS SWCD COST SHARE SIGN-UP
The sign up for State Cost Share with Ralls County SWCD will continue to the end of November 2014 for projects in FY 2016. TRUNK OR TREAT
The Frankford First Christian Church will be hosting their 4th annual “Trunk or Treat” on Friday, October 31, from 5-7:30 p.m., at North Main Cross between the Frankford Park and the Church.
On Friday, October 10, Ralls County R-II fourth graders visited the state Capitol in Jefferson City. The students are pictured with District 40 State Representative Jim Hansen. Students were able to visit the Capitol Museum and Rep. Hansen invited them into the House Chamber. The children were able to sit in the representatives’ seats and see how they voted on issues.
