GG HUNTS PARIS
This year’s Xi Beta Xi egg hunt will take place on Saturday, March 30, in the valley behind the Paris City Hall. The hunt will begin precisely at 11 a.m. Everyone is welcome to come visit with the Easter Bunny and hunt eggs! If the temperature is below 50 degrees the sorority has announced the hunt will be cancelled. Check on Saturday!

Monroe Manor will hold their annual egg hunt on Friday, March 29, at 2 p.m. Registration will begin at 1:30 p.m. The egg hunt is for family members of Monroe Manor residents and staff between the ages of 0-12 years old. Prizes will be awarded in four age divisions.

CEMETERY CLEAN UP
Pleasant Hill Cemetery cleanup day and meeting will be at 10 a.m., on Wednesday, April 3, at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Please remove all flowers, if you want to keep them, prior to the meeting. Donations are needed for the upkeep of the cemetery and can be paid directly to: Monroe County Treasurer, Rita Wilkerson, Monroe County Courthouse, 300 North Main Room 102, Paris, MO 65275.
HEALTH DEPARTMENT TO CLOSE AT NOON
The Monroe County Health Department at Paris will close at noon on Good Friday, March 29. The department will reopen on Monday, April 1, at 8 a.m.
COUNTY CLERK ELECTION NEWS
According to Monroe County Clerk Sandra Francis, the clerk’s office will be open Saturday morning, March 30, for absentee voting for the general Municipal Election. The office will be open from 8 a.m. - noon, for the convenience of those people who will be unable to go to the polls for the Tuesday, April 2, election. Three county polling places will be closed for the April 2nd Election, which include Holliday School, Middle Grove School and Santa Fe Community Center. Both Holliday and Middle Grove School Boards had the same number of filings as the same number of openings therefore no board elections will be held for these two districts. However, voters registered in the Village of Holliday will have a Board of Trustees ballot to vote and registered voters of the Madison C-3 School District that normally vote at the Middle Grove School will all vote at the Madison Community Center for this election. Santa Fe registered voters will vote at the Paris Library. If anyone has questions about voting please do not hesitate to contact the county clerks’ office at 660-327-5106.

APPEAL PHOTO In a solemn and moving ceremony, on Friday, March 22, 16 new members were inducted into the prestigious National Honor Society (NHS). To a standing room only crowd, the new inductees walked into the room and sat apart from the current NHS members. NHS Student Council Representative Rae Graupman introduced each current member to the assembled. President Britton Francis, Vice-President Bryce Ensor, Secretary Chelsea Young and Public Relations Officer Dan-
ielle Wheelan described to the attendees the NHS standards of - Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Character. “Scholarship means a commitment to learn,” said President Francis. “Service is a willingness to work for the benefit of those in need without monetary compensation or recognition is a quality we seek in our members,” said Public Relations Officer Wheelan. “Leadership should exhibit a wholesome influence on the school,” said Vice-President Ensor.
“Character is the force within each individual, which distinguishes that person from others,” said Secretary Young. Paris R-II Secondary Principal John Wiggans addressed the new NHS students. I challenge you not to rest on your laurels but to exceed them,” said Principal Wiggans.” The only way to achieve your purpose is to take small actions each day. Only by setting different goals and achieving them can we find self-worth.” “You are truly the best of
the best,” added Principal Wiggans. In closing Principal Wiggans quoted Mother Teresa, “Life is a promise - fulfill it.” The new members then stood, with the current members, recited the NHS pledge, and then were asked to sign the Paris R-II NHS Book of Members and received their official NHS pin. LOCAL RESIDENTS HEAD TO POLLS ON TUESDAY, APRIL 2 Local residents go to the polls on Tuesday, April 2, to vote for candidates for local boards and city governmental positions. According to Monroe County Clerk Sandra Francis, the clerk’s office will be open Saturday morning, March 30, for absentee voting for the general Municipal Election. The following candidates are running for the office indicated: City of Paris –For Alderman (one position): Ward I – Chris Popkes. Ward II – Kevin Embree. Also on the ballot is Tax Collector with no filing. Paris R-II School District –The Paris R-II School District has a proposition on the ballot. Proposition #1 reads as follows: Shall the following described parcel of land be detached
from the Monroe City R-I School District and attached to the Paris R-II School District All that part of the South Half (S-1/2) of the Southeast Quarter (SE-1/4) of Section Fifteen (15), Township Fifty-Five (55) North, Range Nine (9) West of the Fifty Principal Meridian, Monroe County, Missouri, lying North and West of the new U.S. Highway 24.
