Come participate in the 2nd Annual Madison 4-H Club 5K Run/Walk to raise funds for “Jacquie’s Barn Fund.” The run/walk will take place on Saturday, July 20, the last day of the Monroe County Fair, at the Fairgrounds, 4-H Building. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., with the run/walk beginning at 8:30 a.m. The group is looking to raise $2,000 to donate to the barn fund, in honor of their mentor and leader - Jacquie Stuart. Come help raise money for Jacquie’s Barn!

The Monroe County Health Department, located in Paris, will be closed on Friday, July 26, while new carpet is laid throughout the building. Limited services will be available on Thursday afternoon, July 25, as preparations are made. Home health nursing visits will be maintained both days. They will discuss updates on: Gun Rights, Common Core, National Security, fund raising ideas and much more. All are welcome; come and participate and get informed. The 44th Annual Mark Twain Old Threshers Reunion was a qualified success according to Old Threshers Committee President Angie Fields. “We had a great show this year,” said Fields. “We had a really great crowd and fabulous weather.” The actual kick-off for Old Thresher’s began on Thursday night, July 11, with the 14th Annual Fish Fry, at the Old Thresher’s Building. A standing room
only crowd enjoyed the fish and entertainment by Johnny Ragsdale and band. The weekend’s event featured numerous activities including the draft horse pull, a miniature draft/pony pull, a pet show, children’s games, a successful baby show, flea market, musical entertainment, a farm horse pull, a dunking booth, an old time threshing display, an auction, a kiddie pedal pull, a very well received parade, with Ray Coffman
UMB Bank, in Paris, has a new Banking Center Manager – Jo Reynolds. Mrs. Reynolds has quite an extensive work history prior to her accepting the opposition at the bank. She has worked in the corporate offices of Jack and Jill Food Center (Nebraska); has worked as a hospital business manager (Mountain Home, Ark.); hospital marketing director (Macon); US Bank manager (Macon) and she also has an extensive background in mortgage lending, banking and real estate. “I have literally thousands of hours of job related training,” said Mrs. Reynolds. Reynolds and her husband, Otis, planned to retire to their property in Santa Fe but after a short seven months of retired life, the working bug got the
best of her and after a stint working for Dr. Wilbers, in Mexico, as office manager, accepted the UMB Bank position, in Paris. In her present position, Mrs. Reynolds will provide oversight of the banks operations and staff; community relations; and working with community business people. She will also assist the staff with whatever needs to be done - opening accounts, making calls on businesses, or assisting customers in helping them to determine what’s needed for them and how best to fit what’s going on in their lives with the needs they have. Mrs. Reynolds hobbies include sewing, reading, family time, scrapbooking, and volunteer work. She has an arm long list of organizations and activities
The Madison Lions Club will hold their 5th Annual Truck and Tractor Pull, on Saturday, July 20, at 7 p.m., at the new Madison Businessmen Arena.
The public is invited to an Ice Cream Supper at Ariel Christian Church on July 20 between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Gospel music will begin at 6 p.m. with the Bush Family Singers from Buffalo, MO proving entertainment. Besides ice cream, the menu will include cakes, pies, juicy burgers, potato chips, baked beans, potato salad and drinks. A love offering will be taken. Ariel Christian Church is located in Ralls County just off highway A, southeast of Monroe City, MO. The historic church with stained glass windows rests on top of a hill overlooking the Salt River valley.

The Hannibal Mark Twain Chapter of the Association of Retired Missouri State Employees (ARMSE) will meet on Friday, July 19, beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the Nutrition Center, 219 South Tenth Street in Hannibal. Our program will be presented by Tim Murphy who will demonstrate how arrowheads are made. All current and retired State employees are encouraged to attend. Reservations are not required. Hansen recognized as “Freshman Legislator of the Year” To honor and recognize the efforts of Rep. Jim Hansen, RFrankford, for his work this year on Economic Development, Speaker of the Missouri House of Representatives Tim Jones, awarded him the Freshman Legislator of the Year Award. “I firmly believe actions speak louder than words and as an elected official, those actions are crucial to the well-being of our constituents. I commend Rep. Hansen on his actions regarding Economic Development issues, showing firsthand that their actions demonstrate leadership for District Representative Jim Hansen receives the people of his district,” said
