County manager gets the axe Hausmann: ‘politics at its worst’ By HATCHER HURD hatcher@northfulton.com ATLANTA – Just one year after hiring County Manager Dwight Ferrell, the Fulton County Commission shocked the community when it voted 6-2 Oct. 1 to hand him his walking papers. In a 4-2 vote, the commissioners voted to remove Ferrell without giving any explanation for the move. The move comes when Fulton County is facing its most critical budget ever where deep cuts are expected; around a half-dozen department head jobs remain unfilled; and the General Assembly has put the county on notice that Fulton’s governance is again in its cross-

hairs. Ferrell had been under fire from the Fulton employee union for “unresponsiveness” and the union had wanted Ferrell gone as well. Commenting on the dismissal, Fulton Commission Chairman John Eaves would only say the board wanted to “go in a different direction.”

JC Business Expo ‘best ever’ 3rd annual Expo complete sellout By HATCHER HURD hatcher@northfulton.com JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – For the third straight year, the Johns Creek Chamber of Commerce Business Expo was sold out, and for the second year, it had more exhibitors than the one before. “Yes, we couldn’t have squeezed another table in here if we’d wanted to,” said JC
Chamber President John Bemont. “We were sold out with a waiting list. The response this year was just tremendous.” Asked if the chamber would be looking for a bigger venue next year, Bemont just shook his head. He said The Bricks at Perimeter Church has been a “super” venue for the Expo with generous but compact space and plenty of parking. Ground-floor accessibility
and a natural food court combine to make The Bricks ideal for Bemont’s annual show. “We are very happy with this location. It’s been everything we could ask for. And I think 100 booths are about the maximum number we can serve well. We had 92 last year and I thought we were full,” Bemont said.
