how it works... TURNING LOVE INTO HOPE in support of Charity No. 1049751
Your Hope Tribute Fund Thank you so much for choosing to keep alive the memory of your loved one with a Christie Hope Tribute Fund. A Hope Tribute Fund is a simple and effective way for you, your family and friends to demonstrate your continuing love of someone special and, in their name, raise vital funds to support the work of The Christie. The tribute fund is owned by you, which means it can be as flexible as you want it to be – you grow it in whichever way suits you best. You might want to add to your tribute fund on days that were special to you or grow it slowly by setting up a monthly gift by direct debit. Or why not gather your friends and family together to celebrate the life of your loved one by organising your own fundraising events in their name?
We were the first UK hospital to be accepted as a member of Organisation of European Cancer The Christie’s Appeals Team will give you all the support you need in your fundraising Institutes in 2007 activities and keep you up to date on its progress.
If you have any questions about your fund or you’re just in need of a little inspiration please do get in touch. We’d love to hear from you. Read on to find out more about your Hope Tribute Fund and how it will help The Christie work towards a future without cancer.

Every decision regarding your tribute fund is yours to make – how you grow it, when you add to it, who you involve, how much you raise ... you choose. However you choose to grow yours, our Appeals Team will give you all the support you need in making sure your fundraising efforts are a success. Many of our supporters tell us they get a huge amount of satisfaction from raising money by organising their own fundraising events. Often, these events bring together family, friends and communities to remember someone special. Over the years we have made note of the best fundraising ideas and added a few of our own. Together, they make up the

Over the years, The Christie has built a very special relationship with many, people across the North West of England and beyond – people with a connection to The Christie because we cared for someone they loved. Last year, those people – our friends – raised over £13 million to help us fund vital research and expand our patient care services.
To make the task of fundraising a little easier for our supporters, The Christie has produced a range of How to guides. Offering a range of practical advice and fundraising ideas, the How to guides are available online in pdf format at www.christies.org/fundraising If you would prefer to receive selected How to guides by post, or need any further help or advice about planning and organising your event then please do not hesitate to get in touch by email or phone us on 0161 446 3988.
Around 2,400 patients a year will be treated at our new clinical trials unit - double the number we currently treat.
Just one example of how your tribute fund will help to improve patient care services at The Christie is our planned new Patient Treatment Centre. When this project is completed the new centre will be the largest Clinical Trials Unit in the world from where the latest cancer treatments will be pioneered, including many ‘first into man’ trials which will ultimately benefit cancer patients in the UK and around the world.

Paying into your Hope Tribute Fund To make fundraising for your Hope Tribute Fund even easier, you can create your very own page at www.christies.org/hopefunds . Just follow our easy step-bystep guide to personalise your page with photographs and your own messages of thanks to people giving to your tribute fund. Sending cheques When sending cheques to The Christie for your Hope Tribute Fund, please make them payable to The Christie and remember to write the name of your fund on the cheque (e.g. The John Smith Hope Tribute Fund for The Christie). If you do this, it will help us make sure the money is paid into the correct fund. Gift Aid Anyone can make their donation tax effective through Gift Aid providing they pay income tax or capital gains tax equal to the amount The Christie will reclaim on their donation.
Gift Aid is so important to the work of The Christie because it increases the value of the gift by almost a third at no extra cost to you. To reclaim Gift Aid on a donation from a sponsor, they must tick the Gift Aid box and supply their name and home address (including postcode). If any of these details are missing, we simply can’t claim the extra money. So please, if you are collecting sponsor money, do gently remind those sponsoring you of how much more their gift will be worth if they simply tick the Gift Aid box and give their name and full home address.
Important note about your Hope Tribute Fund As the named contact, The Christie will correspond with you alone about individual gifts to your Hope Tribute Fund. If you’d like others to be able to correspond with the Appeals Team about your tribute fund, please write to us granting permission and giving us the names of other contacts.
Thank you for your support
Thank you so much for supporting The Christie with a Hope Tribute Fund. Every penny you raise in the name of your loved one will be used to provide the highest standards of care and research into treatment of cancer. Regardless of how ambitious you intend to be with your Hope Tribute Fund or how you go about raising money for The Christie, we are grateful for your support. To show our gratitude we have our very own ‘Tree of Hope’, which is situated in a quiet garden at The Christie. The tree is to honour those no longer with us by thanking their families and friends in a permanent and personal way for their incredible generosity and support.
Funds that have raised more than £15,000 will have the name of their loved one engraved on a leaf as a special thank you, and to give the family a place to come and remember them.
