about me

I am a senior currently enrolled in Interior Design at Appalachian State University. I am very much a creative soul and love expressing that creativity through designing spaces. I was born and raised in Northeast Tennessee. Being exposed to the outdoors at a young age has grown my love for the mountains, going to the lake, camping and hiking. I am an adventurous foodie who loves to play in the kitchen. I enjoy creating new dishes and baked goods for my friends and family. I am also an extreme animal enthusiast who loves animals of any shape or size. I am also an athlete who has played volleyball for 11 plus years including playing for the club volleyball team at my school and have loved every minute of it.

Project Brief: This project was a part of the Pave 2020 Student Design Competition. The goal of this project was to design a brand experience for SketchUp that would take the form of a pop-up space which had to be adaptable, mobile and transformable and could be located in different environments: a mall, a college campus, a park, etc. The goal was to develop a space which exploits the design potential that SketchUp offers, and would lead to an increased number of SketchUp adopters. The project must incorporate 4 industries that SketchUp is used for and design a popup experience which allows users to explore these industries through the use of SketchUp. Fixtures will be designed to promote the experience by creating micro-environments within the overall envelope of the space. The brand narrative was considered while constructing the space to connect the user’s journey with the 4 industries.

CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT An origin is the beginning of something, to which thoughts turn to cells. The beginning of life. Those cells studied in a lab to learn from, understand and experiment with. The cell is a circular shape which has no beginning or ending, thus being infinite. Infinite possibilities are possible throughout this shape which means no limits and every thought to be tangible.

The Origins Lab is a place providing opportunity for experimentation, observation or practice where something can begin, arise or can be derived from. An idea, thought or passion can be the perfect origin for a powerful design. The Origins Lab has no boundaries or limits. SketchUp also gives its users the power to create with no restrictions. Everything begins with a clean slate, ready for the mind to roam and test the untestable, dive into the creative unknown and spark the unimaginable. SketchUp allows its users to make the impossible possible which is why The Origins Lab is a perfect place for the end user to use the tools given to them through SketchUp to create infinite designs.

Project Brief: The process of this project was very in depth in the research and ideation piece. The goal was to research problems that occur during an action of a certain age group. The problem that was chosen was how elementary ages children were being affected during the COVID-19 pandemic. The task was to create a solution that would aid in helping the focus group and their problem. A learning aid was created to provide a different learning environment while doing at home learning. This was designed to benefit both the children and the guardian to create a specific space unique to learning while also providing a hands-on activity.

Project Brief: The goal of this project was to design a restaurant that features authentic, Turkish cuisine in a contemporary mid to upscale setting while honoring the culture. This building is located in the historic district of downtown Izmir, Turkey. Since this building was considered to be under historic preservation, many features in the restaurant are original to the building. This building is to be turned into a restaurant that features authentic Turkish cuisine in a contemporary, mid to upscale setting while honoring the culture. The culture of the Turkish people was heavily researched before deciding the design concept of this restaurant. Aura’s (Chakras) are important in the Muslim culture because they are deeply anchored in one’s spirit representing their mood and intent. It is also important that the definition of Aura is the distinctive atmosphere or quality. The colors of each of the chakras and wanting to have a distinctive positive atmosphere is what inspired the restaurant HAVA.

Project Brief:

Sketches

Summer 2019

These sketches were done during a study abroad trip to Italy. We went to five different cities in three weeks. In each city we had to sketch a certain number of scenarios. These included material studies, perspectives, upside-down, fast and moving sketches. It was very important that by the end of the trip, proportion was understood. It is a very valuable quality to be able to sketch quickly and to proportion because that can be used any time in professional practice. Scanned with CamScanner

Project Brief: The company SpaceX opened a new office in Orlando, Florida for their Marketing and Communications Division. The design needed to “align with SpaceX’s values, meet the client’s desires for an environmentally sensitive design, have flexible uses of space and a forwardthinking design.” The space planning of this project allowed SpaceX to have use of flexible spaces and room for growth while providing the flow of an open office floor plan. Goals: - Create a space that sparks imagination and creativity by using different patterns and textures - Provide a “private” office for the head of the department - Bring the outdoors in by providing a lot of natural lighting and using natural materials - Provide comfortable workstations that conform to employees’ needs - Allow separation between collaborative spaces and individual spaces

STARGAZING

Stargazing was one of the first activities that human kind participated in. They would look at up and wonder what was in the night sky. They dreamed of one day being able to travel into the unknown. The act of wanting to expand their knowledge and travel to the stars was all inspired by stargazing. Using stars for way finding was one of the most important uses that early human kind figured out with the help of stars. The organization of calendars, numerical systems, and the start of an early type of mathematics was all inspired by the stars. Using this inspiration for the SpaceX office will transform the space to remind them of a time that transformed the way that humans lived, traveled and thought forever. It will take them back to their roots and how the night sky changed human history forever.

Since this space was for the Marketing and Communications Division, it was designed with the intent for other people who are interested in SpaceX to walk in and understand what kind of company they were. Stargazing was the inspiration for this design. Starlike colors, bright materials and finishes were used to help better define the mission of SpaceX to their clients. Their vision is “to revolutionize space technology, with the ultimate goal of enabling people to live on other planets.

Project Brief: This project is a backyard studio built in SketchUp with the proper architectural layout of materials. This project forced a break down of the key elements of construction. This allowed for a deeper understanding of how joists, beams, wall board, etc. can come together to create a sound structure. Sustainable materials like recycled paneling for the outside of the studio, a rain catcher system to use rain water as a water source and recycled tin to form a roof were used to make the studio. The studio consists of a foundation, wall joists, interior wall, exterior wall, sliding doors, windows, a ceiling, roof joists and a roof.

Project Brief: Creating path and mystery was the function of this project. A quote was given that helped describe what the project outcome was going to be. “The Plan proceeds from within to without; the exterior space is the result of the interior. The elements of architecture are light and shade, walls and space. Arrangement is the gradation of aims, the classification of intentions.” -Le Corbusier, Towards a New Architecture The purpose was to choose an artist and take inspiration from their works to create a three dimensional dorm. The artist chosen to study was Sarah Oppenheimer. Her projects are geometric and include empty spaces that create individual pieces of art inside of her complete art piece. The process was to make parti diagrams of her work to look at the pieces from different angles and see which pieces would fit in the specific project. Many study models were made of the final model to see what worked and didn’t work, how light changed the way the structure was viewed and how to play with empty spaces. The final model is in 1/2”=1’0” scale and made out of matte board, glue and some Bristol board.

Project Brief: This project explored three-dimensional work that investigated the dynamic relationship between curvilinear volumes, concave and convex surfaces. The project had to be designed as asymmetrically balanced, visually engaging from all sides, considering the relationships between positive and negative space, and leading the viewer through the form. It also had to include at least one penetration through the finished work. The removal of material to shape, modify form and space was the key to this project. The work of furniture designer Verner Panton, particularly “Phantasy Landscape” was what inspired this project. Inspiration from this room included, all the curves, indentions and uniqueness of the work and made it into a threedimensional representation of Panton’s work. The process consisted of simple sketch drawings of different works from the artist. The sketched then turned into clay sketch models. This allowed to see how the concavities and convexities interacted with each other.
