BRP MISSION STATEMENT
To mobilize a movement of people to aid in the deliverance of knowledge, thus creating a shift of thinking towards international projects and programs integrated within Batey communities in the Dominican Republic.

To whole-heartedly and selflessly give back to the people in Batey communities, while experiencing professional and personal growth and development. Remain mindfully of the opportunity to inspire real change in the lives of deserving people in the Dominican Republic.

“I enjoyed working hard because the families we were aiding are so deserving and appreciative. The moment we left the van every morning, we were surrounded by excited and loving children, reaching out to hold our hands. We worked alongside some incredible translators and workers who were intelligent, caring, funny and provided a sense of security. This experience is one that has changed me and given me a greater appreciation of everything I have and it empowers me to give back.�

“From they first day arriving in the villages we were greeted by the biggest and brightest of smiles from both the children and the adults. It was clear that they were happy to see us and knew they we were here to make a difference in their lives. But what touched my heart the most is that while we were working the villagers did not hesitate to jump right in and help us, and for the ones that could not help they watched from a distance with big eyes and curious faces. It was the best feeling I ever had and by the middle of the trip I knew I wanted to do more of this type of work for the rest of my life.�

“I wanted to gain more firsthand experience with construction techniques and designing a non-hypothetical project. I wanted to see the designs and constructions come to life. I have a commitment to helping others, especially those that are less fortunate and I wanted to do so through design. I wanted to engage with others of another culture and background. I did such all while applying and improving upon my knowledge of Spanish, as well as gaining sincere connections with the people and community of the Dominican Republic. And of course having the opportunity to help design and build a beautiful home for a deserving family.�

GABRIELA ORIZONDO SCAD Architecture Venture Trip 03, 04, 05 June 2014, November 2014, March 2015
“ I joined BRP because in it I saw the opportunity to help my country, Dominican Republic. I arrived at the airport and was greeted by a group of SCAD students I had not met before, other than for a information meeting. This group of people became my family for the next 8 days. Visiting Barahona, i felt like I was just like everybody else, I was seeing a new place that I had never visited before. Getting there at night, and being a little tired I was not looking forward to waking up early in the morning to work. The next day was filled with energy from everybody eager to work and finally meet all the people from Batey Bombita. At the end of the first day, I thought I had done a lot of work, but none of it compared to all the work we accomplished in the next days.� VENTURE TRIP | 06
