COMMENTS from the publisher SCOTTSDALE—ALWAYS THE BEST WAY TO START THE YEAR This issue of AHT is always a joy to produce. Going into Scottsdale, we may not be able to predict who’s going to win or who’s going to be the talk of the show, but one thing we are sure of is that the show will reach new heights. Against all odds, somehow every year Scottsdale raises the standard of “amazing” for our breed, and since this issue is where we celebrate that, it’s one we can all look forward to. I always say that when we head to Scottsdale in February, we go into the Scottsdale Bubble. We lose touch with what is happening in the real world. We can never really escape the real world, nor would we want to—but in some years, it seems like a great gift to be able to spend two weeks exclusively with our Arabian horses, among our friends in the Arabian community. Hopefully, when the show is over, we emerge rested and reenergized for the year to come. I truly hope that happened for you this year. Scottsdale Week began for my family with the Ames Foundation Gala, which raises money for the Arabian Horse Promotional Fund and Mayo Hospitals and Clinics. For me personally, it will always be a tribute to my dad, his love for Arabian horses and their people, and the clinic that cared for him so well in the closing years of his life. On behalf of my family, I’d like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended, sponsored or supported the Gala—in the end, it went beyond what we could have ever imagined. To me, the greatest news out of Scottsdale this year was how many people were there. From what I saw, our crowd size was back to normal. And the quality of horses at the show was exceptional (but then, it always is). Everyone you spoke with said sales were up on horses and breedings. So, if Scottsdale is any indicator, the future of the Arabian horse looks bright. I want to wish you all a Happy Spring!
